QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Liotta and Rodriguez were taken in the Major League portion of the RuleV? Or were the two of them taken in the Minor Leauge portion. If they were taken in the major league portion, I just don't see any way those two stay on a major league roster all season unless some team figures they can stick them on the DL for the full-season and keep them afterwards (I'd have to imagine there would be some sort of rule against that). Liotta and Rodriguez were taken in the AAA portion.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 08:46 AM) Is Owens greater to or equal than Pie? In what regard? Track and field? For what it's worth - and that's a lot considering their ages - Felix Pie's career minor league OPS is 100 points higher than Owens'.

Time to up the ante: Sign Bonds to a 1yr deal

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) I have an intense dislike for Bonds. Same for other juicers, whomever they are. Same goes for McGuire, Sosa, Guillen, etc. The fact that Bonds is ALSO a compelte asshole to everyone, and that he ALSO broke one of baseball's most coveted records without earning it, happens to add to my dislike. But I do not "like" anyone in sports who achieves their end by cheating. To me, its stealing, and its ultimately stealing my money (being a paying fan). That's quite fair. -
Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes

Josh Hamilton was also a crack addict and has done countless other drugs as well. He wasn't doing just heroin. and, from an article of his... I'm proof that hope is never lost It's an enormous risk to trade for him. It's not just a matter of him even getting hurt; if he catches a bug and gets sick, he may be sidelined for 3 weeks or something crazy like that. A simple stomach bug and he had to go on the DL. I love Josh Hamilton and his story, but to act as if he's 100% and is going to be is silly. -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) Apparently, to YOU its all image, all media. To others of us, its his cheating that is the biggest reason for the dislike. Kind of arrogant to think that everyone other than you is simply brainwashed by the media, no? so, I'm going to expound upon this; do you hate him because he cheated and he broke the record, or just because he cheated? I do just want to clear this up, and I'm not trying to start anything; the only reason I'm really asking is because if you hate Bonds because he cheated, then you also hate Robert Valido, Alex Sanchez, Jorge Piedra, and many others. If you do, that's perfectly fine and I have no beef with it at all. -

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) Another baseball reason...clogging up the bases. Yeah, he'll get on base a lot, but with Konerko, Thome, Dye and Pierzynski on base around him, the team will be even more station to station. If Thome weren't here, I think I'd agree, but we have a DH. I would let f***ing Butterbean clog up the bases if it meant getting on base 230 times. There is nothing wrong with a guy who "clogs up the bases" when he gets on base at a ".480" clip. -

Stolen from Cheat's blog, courtesy Joe Cowley There will be some people in here who really like this UHHHHHHH andthen... ...or his 6.41 ERA and 1.64 WHIP while allowing 2 homers per 9 in his final 18 starts, where he averaged 5 innings a start? http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2007/12/high_praise.html KW gets a bad rap sometimes, but those are straight up hilarious quotes because of how absurd they are.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) I am really starting to think 05 was a fluke, fools gold. KW, i dont care about your emotions being hurt, your job is to make trades and sign players. Stop making excuses. KW, still playing patty cake with our emotions. The Sox pitched well in 2005, so in that regard, it was a bit fluky. But they got outstanding defense all year and that very much aided the team's outstanding pitching. On top of that, the team was smoke and mirrors offensively; they were barely better than last year's White Sox who let Andy freakin Gonzalez get 200+ PAs. It does not change the fact, however, that it was a very well built team; there was no weakness in the lineup, the pitching staff performed very well, and the bench served its purpose throughout the year. In 2006, a weakness was exposed in the offense in the second half in that they could no longer hit left-handed pitching. Add to it that the Sox had 3 terrible hitters in the lineup (2 returning players, surprise surprise), the rotation took a complete dump (this was also the time period where Garland started building up this overrated reputation that he still currently owns), and the bullpen imploded, and the Sox were a terrible team. In the first half of the year, the Sox were one of the best teams in the league, so they basically went 250 games of being the best team in baseball, and since the ASB of 2006, the team has completely been flipped around. And he flat out didn't have enough pieces to make the trade for Cabrera - which does go against KW, but indirectly - and that signing Hunter for $90 mill is a mistake waiting to happen.

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) 3 seasons ago...mark prior was elite and so was kerry wood! for your information...i've had willis on my fantasy teams and he has str8 up sucked for a while. i'd take gavin floyd over him to be honest with you and that may sound crazy but floyd was doing great his last 10 starts last season. Alright, those keys in your pocket? Walk to the nearest river bank, look upstream, and throw them as far as you can. Get some new ones made in the morning after you get rid of that nasty hangover. On a more serious note, did anyone take notice to the fact that Dontrelle sucked when the Marlins sucked? He really seems to be the type of pitcher who lives for competition and when he knows his team is going to suck, he just doesn't give a s***. For him, going to Detroit could be a career saver.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 02:40 AM) Nice summary ... but ... Ordonez was not finished like the Sox doctors suggested or KW suggested. He is fine now. The Lee trade saved money. I'll give you that. But Lee was a stud. Rowand brought Thome. The question is could anybody else have brought Thome? KW does not make trades that we clearly WIN. you're right, all he did was bring a World Championship to the South Side of Chicago. all you are doing is b****ing right now. I hope you realize this. You aren't providing anything constructive at all. -

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 02:44 AM) Barry Bonds? My god, if we sign him, I hope no fans go to the games. Barry Bonds ... the scum of big league baseball. Hated so much even the Giants had to let him go. They said they don't want him even though the Giant fan base actually likes the creep. If the White Sox sign Barry Bonds I sincerely hope they lose every game. Yes this is the same guy who late last season said I would never want my team to lose a game while trying to pick up a better draft pick. Barry Bonds needs to spend the year in jail rather than at the Cell. Barry Bonds can go f*** himself. Gawd I hate that piece of crap. I would probably show undying support for him, and with his gazillions of dollars, he'd call me a crazy white boy and buy me season tickets and if I'm lucky, spot me like $100K. I can daydream about this all day. -
QUOTE(scenario @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) Here's a link to some 2007 Rule 5 info and stories on MiLB.com There are several available players listed here, including former first round picks. Another interesting prospect available is Jamie D'Antona, the DBacks AAA 3B, who was left exposed due to roster management issues the team is dealing with. D'Antona (25) hit .308 with with a .362 OBP and .861 OPS in 2007. DBack fans are sick that he was left off their 40-man. If we didn't already have too many 3Bs I'd want us to take him. Getting absolutely dominated in winter league - .195 (8 for 41)/.227/.220/.447 with 1 XBH. Absolutely mashed lefties last year...the numbers may be a bit off, but something close to .390/.443/.662/1.105 in 150 or so plate appearances with 23 XBHs. I'd love him to fill in at all the corners (being 1B/3B/LF/RF, regardless as to whether he's actually played the outfield; evenso, the Sox don't have a 1B/3B, so that would work out just fine in my book). Not that the Sox would do something like DFA AGonz, but a guy can dream.

I have no problem picking up 1 year stop gaps, trading them at the deadline and picking up any kind of minor league talent possible; the Rangers picked up Max Ramirez that way by trading, coincidentally, Kenny Lofton. However, Lofton is not right for the Sox and he should no longer be considered an option in CF.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:34 PM) Probably a decent shot back at the Tigers would be to pull off a blockbuster for Roberts and Bedard. That would be ridiculous. That would be but a blip on their radar.

QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) yeah, I duno, I'm just not that confident in his ability to add pop to this team. Pablo seems to add that spark and swagger.. if Richar struggles, i'd like to see Pablo put into his role. THE SOX ARE NOT A CONTENDING TEAM. PLAY YOUR YOUTH. PLEASE, SOXTALK, F'ING UNDERSTAND THIS CONCEPT, PLEASE

QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) Talk me out of why this trade wouldn't work: Konerko/Thome and Orlando Cabrera to the Angels for Howie Kendrick and Reggie Willits. You are losing 35 homers, a ton defensively, a good contact hitter, a little speed, and an expiring contract for a good 2Bman when the Sox already have a young one who looked pretty good last year for a .695 OPS, and a player who has less power than Luis Castillo. -

Just curious, to all advocates of bringing Roberts in...2 parter... 1. What will it cost? 2. How much does Roberts' addition improve the Sox chance of making the postseason next year? again, just curious
