    I plan on graduating from the University of South Dakota and then running for President. That's how good of a school USD is. And then I'm still going to tank on the weekends.
  3. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) You should eat lunch with the janitor before you do anything. He is not stupid.
  4. Just so we are aware, -Magglio Ordonez's knee was in such bad shape that he couldn't have the surgery he wanted in the United States. -The Carlos Lee trade (indirectly) won the World Series for the White Sox in 2005, because the $8 mill or so that saved went towards, I dunno, whichever tandem you want to match the numbers up with (Duque, Iguchi, Pierzynski? That's about right) -Aaron Rowand brought the White Sox Jim Thome That's what happened to the 3 of those guys that were starting.
  5. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) Well, hey, at least there's lots of talk about various trades/players! The sad part is that KW is 0-2 so far. Well, he's not 0-2, so there goes that logic. People really want KW to make a jaw dropping trade, a trade where he absolutely just "rapes" someone (which rarely happens, just so we're aware), and then he tried to make a monster package for Cabrera got outbid by a better offer; that happens. He's (easily) won both trades he's made this offseason, and the offseason is young. His only failures are that 1) He underestimated how much Torii Hunter was worth on the open market 2) He signed an overrated reliever to a 4 year contract 3) His minor league system is garbage Only one of those has to do with a trade, and that has more to do with not being able to complete a trade more than anything else.
  6. QUOTE(juddling @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) in the Sun-Times De Luca mentions the Marlins were looking for a catching prospect which the Sox didn't have to offer. They were waiting for a counteroffer from the Marlins when the quick deal was announced. If that is how it happened, if you like KW or not....there wasn't much he could do. He's sitting in his room waiting for a call back when he hears about the deal. You can't make the other teams deal with you. IIRC, i read somewhere that the Sox and Hunter all but signed a deal when Hunter flew out to keep his meeting with the Angels. then...BAM...the deal is done. Again....what could KW do???? he's makes an offer..if Hunter or Cabrera came back to KW and said 'Hey..this is what i was offered by Detroit. Want to beat this??" and the Sox declined then that would be one thing but i think twice now KW thought he had a deal all but done then Poof it was gone. Mike Rabelo is 27 and put up an OPS of .657 last year. His line - .256/.300/.357 - looks very similar to something that Donny Lucy would put up.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) THAT is f***ed up. Cashman may be a worse GM than KW; he just gets to deal with $80 million more in salary. Seriously, I don't know how he hasn't lost his job yet, it's absolutely ridiculous that the Yankees haven't won a World Series with all the money they've spent in the past 7 years. I mean, seriously, they've spent a billion dollars in like 5 years, and more than that in the past 7, and haven't won s***.
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) what the hell? what'd you expect...condams?
  9. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:45 AM) Kosuke Fukudome Rumors: Wednesday Let's start a thread just for Kosuke Fukudome. The prevailing sentiment is that the Cubs are the frontrunners for his services. Newsday's Ken Davidoff adds today that Fukudome has narrowed his choices to the Cubs and Royals. atleast the Royals aren't going after Andruw Jones or somethin
  10. QUOTE(JPN366 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) Burke for Egbert, Williams always overpays and underwhelms. Yep, since he's given every indication this offseason that he's going to trade young talent for marginal players with limited upside.
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:29 AM) The one that was passed around when I first wen to Illinois in 2003 involved a vibrator and a man's pee hole. kids in the sand box
  12. If the Brewers would give you Hall for Joe Crede, when Hall himself might be a better bet at 3B next year, Doug Melvin will have really, really fallen off the deep end.
  13. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) I've heard that it's all fake. It's not really what it looks like. It IS ice cream, or something like it. so how do you explain the puking?

    QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) Grand Valley State Our football team is kind of a big deal, albeit DIV II. atleast you beat the piss out of UND in the playoffs. I cannot stand that team. I actually went to high school for a year with Weston Dressler, but I absolutely cannot stand the guy on the football field (mainly because he's so good) sry, off-topic and talking D2 football, that's ridiculous
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 01:52 AM) What I read somewhere at this isn't really a 'mental problem', per se, but it's more the Paul Konerko syndrome of being waaaaay too hard on yourself when things aren't going your way. He's a guy that presses too hard, if that makes any sense... Not that I am in any way comparing them (though both being from Stanford is a little weird), but isn't that also somewhat similar to Joe Borchard too?
  16. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) The GMs themselves (do they manage to shout their demands in a more convincing fashion), or by the prospects in other teams' systems? Bringing in the right prospects by way of proper scouting and coaching on the amatuer and minor league levels is part of the GMs responsibility too, no?
  17. QUOTE(kageman129 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) If this is the best trade proposal the Marlins got, what the hell were the other teams offering? I honestly think the Sox could have got Miguel and Dontrelle for better talent than the Tigers gave up. Tell me this didn't happen! Cameron Maybin is probably the best prospect in the game right now, and Andrew Miller isn't far behind. There was no possible way the Sox could have provided a better offer with the players they have in their system.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) Hopefully the therapy keeps the pucker factor to a minimum. Good to see he's getting help for it, but the fact that he's also apparently somewhat of a mental midget doesn't make this day any better. Hopefully he can produce really well this season.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) Hes 26 years old. and a former drug addict
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) Pass on him why? Because he would fill the leadoff hole and the CF hole? He would be a perfect fit. And Fath, Bailey was the youngest player in the league this year, he will improve. something about former cocaine and heroin addicts destroying their body doesn't give me high hope for Hamilton's shot at staying healthy long-term, and I'm not talking about relapse here but merely talking about him getting banged up badly from the day-to-day grind.
  21. QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) You bring up 2006, why not 2007? I did...you apparently didn't see where I called him a ".750 OPS SS/2B/3B/CF."
  22. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:33 PM) From ESPN (and Steve Phillips so TIFWIW): Could the Sox top this? Would they want to? I'm sure the Sox could top that. Not sure they want to, but they could. What they can't top is Kemp and Broxton, which was also reportedly offered; that, atleast in my mind, tops the Mets offer as well. Humber's an injury prone starter, Heilman is nothing more than a middle reliever or setup man at best, and Gomez, though exciting as hell, doesn't have near the potential Kemp does. Broxton is a flat out stud too.
  23. QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Hall wouldn't cost that. He didn't have that great of a year last year, and he is not a superstar. Yes, he would. He's a .750 OPS SS/2B/3B/CF who put up a .900 OPS in 2006 who is also signed through 2010; Orlando Cabrera, who is better but only signed through this year, cost Jon Garland. Why in the hell would Bill Hall cost less than that? Bill Hall is out of the question unless KW really wants to include one of his top pitching prospects in a desperation move (which is exactly what it would be); that would be stupid as hell.
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) Minny making the playoffs and great shouldnt even be in the same post. They've lost a middle of the order hitter and their best player. and have already added a young middle of the order hitter and will be getting plenty of pitching even with the loss of Santana I really don't think they are too worried
  25. QUOTE(joeynach @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:37 PM) U do all realize Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis are now members of the Tigers. no way IS YOU SERIOUS
