  1. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 01:53 AM) Just a question, not a flame. How come so many fans at the Cell love Rowand and he gets a lot of hate on here? Is it because the fans here are very negative or the Cell fans are idiots? I am not dying to get Rowand, but wouldn't mind it at all. Quite frankly because some fans consider Rowand to be a godsend, while others on here remember his .740ish OPS in 2005; those fans that consider Rowand a godsend are horribly mistaken, and those that compare him only to that mediocre OPS aren't giving him the credit he quite deserves. And for the right price, Rowand should be option #1 at this point.
  2. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) I agree completely. However for the most part, whenever someone gets me a shot thats normally what I end up drinking. Also, my friend, a guy, is on the strangest Mikes Hard Lemonade kick and its beginning to scare and/or bother me. I would drink Mike's if it's free or if it has a shot of Vodka in it. Really no other time is there that I would drink it.
  3. QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) I hope that he's right about KW not giving up on Sweeny. I don't think that there's any reason to quit on him just yet, he's too young and talented. If he's still struggling in a couple of years thats fine but we need a LF and will soon need a RF, he's got good defense, a good arm and is developing at the plate, lets see what he can do in a full season This thought is what really pisses me off about how little people understand about trade value; if Sweeney has 2 more years in a row where he's terrible, then what value does he have? HE HAS NO VALUE. You are getting Nick Masset/Matt Thornton part 2, and even if they are good, they are nothing special. In the same line of thought, if he gets stronger and faster on the inside pitches, and finally develops a bit of freakin power, then yeah, the Sox would be making a mistake trading him. If what has been said on here is true - and since he was offered for Chad Qualls, I'd imagine it's quite true - KW is going to make every effort to trade Sweeney this offseason either in a package or for a reliever. If Sweeney's still here, I'd imagine that has a lot to do with how low Sweeney's value is (though I don't imagine it's terribly bad right now, and it's more that Ed Wade is just a damn fool).
  4. QUOTE(PorkChopExpress @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) I do that deal in a heartbeat. DLS probably won't be MLB ready for two years or maybe more. Gio is supposed to be close to ready, but may need another year still. Haren is awesome now, and controllable for the near future. DLS could be a bullpen arm for the White Sox next year and pitch well; his arm is just that good. And I would not be the least bit surprised to see him called up at midseason to do just that if the Sox are close and the bullpen is a mess (again). As a starter, he probably is 2 years away.
  5. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 08:03 PM) I didn't see any state troopers during my 6 hour drive from Memphis to Knoxville. Seems kinda rare, especially for the Sunday after a major holiday. LOL, is kind of funny...I saw several through South Dakota when driving back home, but didn't see any until about 100 miles outside of Bismarck when I saw 4 HiPo's within a 1 mile stretch. One had his car turned off on the side of the road with another behind him helping him, and then I saw a trailer pulled over by 2 cops. So that was fun. And then on the way back, I didn't see any until I was 60 miles north of Vermillion when I saw 2 cops within a half mile stretch. It was fun.
  6. So they reportedly haven't stolen anything...the burglars either suck, or they aren't burglars at all.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) Mike Hampton injured. Sun rises.
  8. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) No one can argue with this. I honestly didn't want ANYONE traded off the 2005 team. I wanted to give the same guys the chance to play as defending champs. Its likely we'd have still come up short, because we had a couple pitchers fall off the ledge in 2006, but what guys like Rowand bring to the table can't be measured with OPS. Without Jim Thome in 2006, the White Sox would have almost assuredly been a below .500 team.
  9. So, reading around, it looks like it may not have been a burglary but rather just an attempt on his life. They left a knife/machete on his bed and cut the phone lines too; if they went to his house last week and he wasn't home, but came back again when he was home, it seems to point to something other than burglary, because you'd really think they would have taken what they wanted to when he wasn't home. RIP Sean...you were a hell of a player, and you went way too young.
  10. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 08:58 AM) No to Rowand...................time for KW to aim higher alot higher! FWIW, of all the centerfielders that hit the market this offseason, Rowand had the best 2007 out of all of them.
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 02:27 AM) Man, you are a knowledgeable poster and if you think all those players wouldn't bring Cabrera I am really worried about our future. Some of those guys are going to be counted on heavily. Nah, it's just that Phillips and Broadway are pretty much non-factors, and Sweeney's value is probably at the level just below the lowest it can go (meaning one more bad/mediocre season in AAA and it's at about the bottom); Fields and Gio would never get in a million years get a top 5 hitter in the game.
  12. Personally, I think the thought of him even potentially reaching free agent is a bit loony. There's no way a team is going to trade for him and then not lock him up long term almost instantly; if they do, they crazy. The Marlins are going to trade him to get a great return for him, and the team trading for him will trade for him to keep him as their franchise player long term. That seems quite logical to me.
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) This team definitely needs more than "one guy". Miguel Cabrera eats as much as like 3 guys, does that count?
  14. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) They were good friends, though, so it's okay that he whomped him. Actually, I am a little off. From an interview: ROFFLE
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 11:12 PM) You can do that with A LOT of players. There's a bunch of guys who's numbers at the end of the season will be pretty unspectacular (think .750 OPS) but if you look at their monthly splits they'll have 2 months with a .900 OPS, another 2 with a .750 and those other 2 around .600. It's those guys that can limit the number of s***ty months and maximize the amount of great months over the course of a season that you want to hold onto. This is true as well. It's a matter of consistency. I will give the benefit of the doubt to him in August...nobody puts up a sub-.400 OPS without having something wrong with them, so I'll blame that more on the back injury than Crede himself. Still, I'm not about to count on him for anything next year, and if the Sox can trade him for a left fielder (if they are serious about Fields at 3B) they should, and I imagine there is a left fielder or 4th outfielder that will be available for such a deal.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) Basically they had him until the Angels decided to give him a horrendous contract. I like that Kenny was good in the negotiations and wasnt short bidding. and that he didn't overbid, and that he didn't include a 6th year, and that he just let him go when he went more expensive than the Sox were willing to offer. I really do hope that the Sox end up with either Rowand or Jones now. It's weird, because it seems some people don't realize how good Rowand has been at times, and others don't realize how mediocre he's been. However, even if the Sox have to go to a 5th year, 5/$70-75 for Rowand would almost certainly not be the worst contract the White Sox have ever given out, and it almost certainly won't be the worst contract given out this offseason, so long as Rowand keeps his detrimental face plants into the wall at a minimum.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) there have been rumors flying around of a Garza for Delmon Young trade... And I don't think there's ever been basis for those rumors; as much as I love Garza, that would be an absolutely dreadful trade for Tampa.
  18. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 06:31 PM) Just curious, is this a simulated contract to throw simulated games? They can even pay him in simulated money. The contract is loaded with incentives to earn extra throwing towels.
  19. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) Here is one that would solve the LF spot and probably wouldn't take a ton to get either...seen this on mlbtraderumors...TIFWIW Heyman believes the Mets are very willing to trade Lastings Milledge and have discussed him often. To the Sox, that would involve dealing Javy. That's not going to happen right now.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) It's really hard for me to see how the Angels need a 3rd baseman, because right now they have no where else to play Figgins. They have their 5 OF's, then they have a line of guys at SS including Izturis, Aybar, and possibly Wood if they bring him up, they have Kendrick at 2nd base, and Kotchman/Morales at 1b. Heck, they even have another 3rd baseman coming off of Back Surgery in McPherson if they're really desperate. They could still go crazy though and think that they still need more of a power bat despite having added Hunter, and honestly, I wouldn't put it past them. I can't figure out how that team will get down to 25 players, personally. From everything I've read, they'd have to include Kendrick in a deal for Cabrera; the Marlins would then trade Uggla and the Angels would stick Figgins at 2B. Whether that's a good idea I don't know, and it's all speculation, so who really knows; it actually shows some creativity though.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) The whole argument with Crede's offensive abilities comes down to one question - was 2006 an aberration, or did he "figure it out"? His strong late 2005 suggests maybe he did indeed figure it out. In that case, putting up 2006-like numbers, then he's a very good 3B overall. But, since he didn't put up numbers like 2006 EVER before that, or even close, there is a pretty good argument that it really was just an aberration. My vote: 2006 was a career year, but he did figure some things out. Playing full time in 2008, if he's healthy, he's a streaky .260-.270 hitter with ~25 HR power and good clutch hitting, but a still low OBP in the .300-.310 area, a lot of K's and he's slow as molasses on the basepaths. He was actually pretty good in 2005, even aside from his ridiculous 2 month run...he had 2 dreadful months that really brought down his overall numbers, but he had 4 months with an OPS of .825+ (or .824 if you want to split hairs) That said, I think you can pretty much throw that all out the window with a back surgery...nobody knows how he'll come back.
  22. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) The bottom line is the Bears were the better team. I don't even think the Dolphins are the second best team. I would rank the 84 and 89 Niners ahead of them, and you could make a case for the 86 Giants as well. If you can throw out one missed field goal, the 98 Vikings were pretty amazing too
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) At this point, how much competition do they actually have for the #1? Jets, Raiders, Rams, and Falcons...it depends on whether those teams suck enough to lose out, or if the Dolphins get a little luck and win a few games in the next 5. In all likelyhood, they have the #1 sewn up...they do play the Pats again, but other than that, they have a pretty soft schedule down the stretch (especially if Lynch is still a bit banged up when they play the Bills) so I think it's pretty much impossible for them to go winless
