  1. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) Rotoworld has a report that Joe Kennedy passed away. Google news has headlines suggesting that it resulted from a brain aneurysm, but none of the articles have any details. That's absolutely terrible news. I remember a game he pitched for Tampa where the leadoff hitter got a hit and then nobody else did all game. I found it...it was against that terrible Detroit team.
  2. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) Did you see Jones back in the late '90s? He's put on 40 lbs. since then and, even if it's still "above average" in CF, his defense has regressed big-time. No way that I want that guy for the next 7 or 8 years, especially when Borass is going to want a salary that matches what Jones did years ago, rather than how he'll perform on the wrong side of 30. I don't recall where, but I read where Jones actually lost a bunch of weight this past offseason and his range in center improved. However, that loss in weight also had a big impact on his struggles at the plate as well. I think in prior years he had been pretty bad defensively, but this past season he was very good again, perhaps to the gold glove standards he deserved.
  3. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) So is Cabrera. The Sox plan to resign him; that would be perfectly fine. However, even if he is gone, he'll almost assuredly be a Type A free agent, which nets a team's first rounder (or 2nd rounder if the team sucked) along with a another 1st rounder; Garland was never going to give the Sox that.
  4. QUOTE(max power @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 06:17 AM) I don't think we can get him for so little. This is what I agree with, so this should put any debate to rest.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 07:27 AM) I could see us giving someone a mil just to get rid of him. Sad, but true. I couldn't. He still has value to the Sox as a defensive sub and a power hitter off the bench, so if teams don't want him, he'll stay on the Sox.
  6. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) I can't imagine that Boras will accept a deal for less than what Hunter was paid. Because currently, in the minds of the owners, Andruw Jones is a worse player than Torii Hunter. What I could easily see happening is a 5 year deal being signed with Jones being able to opt out after 2, which is exactly like the JD Drew deal.
  7. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 08:47 AM) Call me foolish because i disagree with you. Let me ask you a question.. Who is our current leadoff hitter? We already have 2 3b who can hit for power, i dont see the need for Cabrera right now.. Although i would love to have Cabrera over Crede/Fields, we can live without him. We CANT go into 2008 without another leadoff hitter. Jim Thome. Paul Konerko. Cabrera himself. Orlando Cabrera. Hell, if the Sox got Miguel Cabrera, I would actually be ok with Jerry Owens leading off, because the middle of the lineup would do most of the damage anyways.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 01:24 AM) A .790 OPS from a DH 75% of the time is a freaking joke. In 2007 Jim Thome had a 1.123 OPS against RHP only behind Ortiz and Chipper Jones (1.171.) His OBP was .455 In 2006 Jim Thome had a 1.203 OPS against RHP which lead ALL of the MLB. His OBP was .454. Thomas' .796 OPS ranked 115th overall tied with Gary Matthews Jr, and Jarrod Saltalmacchia (only 210 PA's however.) For DH's he was 6th out 11, and his OBP was 8th. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/battin...nd=a&pos=dh Well, if you're going to include Thome's 2006 numbers, you have to include Thomas's .912 OPS against RHP in 2006; I don't know where it ranks, but I'd bet it's not bad.
  9. I don't think there's ever been a more overrated player in Soxtalk history than Carl Crawford. He's a good player, perhaps even a top 8 leadoff hitter; he's not a godsend and he's not going to take this team from garbage to gorgeous. And, worst of all, some people even admit they want Crawford over MCab, regardless of price. That is absolutely ridiculous.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Like I said in my originaly post, if the Reds would. I didn't say they would, but if they would, that'd be sweet. Don't go all crazy on me, I know Hamilton will be tough to get. Hopper, on the other hand... he would be a good option to compete for leadoff with Owens if we can't find anyone else. Those "if they would" scenarios are always stupid to begin with; if the Marlins would trade Miguel Cabrera straight up with DLS, I'd do that, and if every other team would trade their good players for our mediocre players, I'd do it too; they won't, so it's not gonna happen, so I don't even bother considering them.
  11. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) That maybe so.. but this team already has like 3 #3 hitters.. we need a true leadoff hitter. Miguel Cabrera is awesome don't get me wrong i would take him over any of our power hitters any day, but this team would be much better off with Crawford than Cabrera simply because this lineup does't have enough speed in it. This team would be better off with Miguel Cabrera than Carl Crawford. If you think otherwise, you are foolish.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Heh, well... The first time she came over to our place, her and I started up this really indepth conversation about our lives, while my roommate kind of sat back. I've also gone out to dinner with her twice...they've yet to do the same. She told me she considers me her best friend, despite the fact that I've only known her a couple months, and as soon as she told me that, that's when the texts picked up. She probably tells me she misses me a couple times of day, and that she loves me. She also said she finds it really hard to be as open with people as she is with me. However, she really seems into my roommate, and they hump like rabbits. I dunno. I'm the kind of guy who's bros before hos. I haven't really sensed her being "into" me. It's just kind of interesting how it's unfolding. Kinda high schoolish. Oh, and she is good looking. I've given you two pieces of advice, and you must follow one of them. Preferably the one with me involved.
  13. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) P. Holmes to retire? Yes
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 06:36 PM) Yeah he does. And despite having much better relievers in front of him, the Indians didn't make a change. Could happen again in 2008. Reminds me of the Todd Jones situation in Detroit really. Signing a reliever from Japan and trading MacDougal for prospects (or Luke Scott, because Ed Wade loves his relievers) makes a lot of sense right now. I would love me some Luke Scott.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 12:16 AM) Step 1: Trade a young inning eater pitcher for a 33 year old SS who's VORP is Juan Uribe ish. Regardless of the other two (thinking objectively, I might prefer Rowand to Hunter in both the short and long term...higher ceiling and the durability issues are not there, only the recklessness issue), do some f***ing research, thus preventing you from looking like an idiot. Orlando Cabrera - 31.7 Juan Uribe - -0.6 (yes, that's a negative number) But yeah, a 32.3 difference in VORP is comparable.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 06:18 PM) Well he'll obviously be behind Borowski for the moment. He might not be closing until 2009 at the earliest. Borowski sucks. Anyways, I hope we sign Yabuta too.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) I'd do a Danks for Hamilton and Hopper, if the Reds would. A lineup of (see below) would be pretty sweat. Jesus, let's just trade Buehrle for Howard and Rollins why we're at it. Why on earth would the Reds make that deal for Hamilton straight up, let alone throwing Hopper into the mix too? Do people not understand that Danks put up an ERA of 5.50, had durability issues, and didn't even throw 140 innings in 26 starts (an average of 5.1 IP per start, which is absolutely horrendous)? His value is not that of a guy who put up an OPS of .922 in 337 PAs last year along with a guy who could be a pretty good 4th outfielder. Get real.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) I compared this signing to the Indians signing Kobayashi. And yes, that is more of a risk / rewards move. But they will be paying about $10M less, and I wouldn't be at all suprised if he puts up better numbers than Linebrink. And they don't lose a draft pick for signing him either. As far as I understand, Kobayashi wants an opportunity to close. He was not getting that here without trading Jenks.
  19. I'm surprised people are surprised by a 6/$100 offer; I figure he was good for $102 mill.
  20. I wonder if Albert Pujols is available too...maybe the Cards would have interest in Eric Duncan and Shelley Duncan The Yankees and their fans can pound sand.
  21. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 01:38 AM) I actually use to cock my hat to the left when I pitched. I wore it with a curve and it made it easier to see runners on 1st Base while looking over my left shoulder. I do however think it is completely retarded to cock it for any other reason on the baseball field. That would be another reason.
  22. Ace, I don't mind if people wear their hate sideways. That's about individuality. When on the baseball field, you should follow some type of dress code, and unless you are tilting your hat to block the sun, I feel you should keep it straight. Merely an opinion, among many, but it's how I feel.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) Why would we want that overrated (the next DiMaggio ,) overpaid, crippled junk? Because you'd be trading like Juan Uribe and Aardsma/Masset/MacDougal for him?
