QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 07:10 AM) Any trade with Milwaukee should bring us Corey Hart. At least i hope it does. Just why on earth would they trade Corey Hart to the White Sox?

You didn't actually expect Stuie to die, did you?

I'd honestly take a flier on him if they do in fact release him.

I love the offseason

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 11:15 PM) Im guilty of this. I have a trained response in my head. Normally my answer to anything like this is "Hows it going?" and with my job I meet new people a lot and I just always say that when anyone says hi or even asks me whats up or how Im doing. Yeah I ask it and get asked it. Usually, if someone asks, I just give them a one or two word response and continue on my way, and if they try and continue a conversation, I generally just keep walking and don't listen. Sure it's rude, but I'm getting somewhere, so I don't need to have a conversation right then.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Loretta is pretty much Erstad on a hot streak. When he played with Boston, he had a .285 BA but his OPS was slightly over .700. He does pretty well against lefties, but he's still probably not up for a platoon gig. I do like him as a utility infielder/platoon partner, and I doubt he finds a starting job. And there's no way he's not better defensively than Pablo.

QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) Hell, I'd trade them 'RockRaines' if it would help. Throw in a 'witesoxfan' for good measure. f*** that, I'm invoking my no-trade clause

White Sox Fall/Winter League Discussion Thread
witesoxfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) A few Sox players did good in the AFL today... Getz 2-4, 2B, R (now hitting .281) Egbert: 5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K (ERA now 3.26) Russell: 1.0 IP, K (ERA now 2.40) ---------------------- By the way, he didn't play today, but something nice to think about - Fernando Hernandez' line so far in the AFL: 11.2 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 11 K, for a 0.60 WHIP, a .100 Avg Against and a perfect 0 ERA That's after his 2007 AA B-Ham campaign where he had a 3.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 84 K's in 85 innings. In 2006, he had a 1.93 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 81 K's in 65 innings for A+ W-S. He's 23, and probably headed for Charlotte in 2008. He was a 49th round (wow) selection in the 2002 draft, but signed with the Sox in 2003 after playing a year of college ball. The only "hitch" in his development was a lousy 2005 with W-S, after having pretty good 2003 and 2004 campaigns at GF and Kanny. Other than that 2005 year, does anyone know why this guy seems not to be mentioned among the system's relief prospects? Does anyone know more about this guy, like stuff, velocity, etc.? He's got an AAP page, but its just the introductory stuff. 1.41 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 10.6 K/9, 2.9 K/BB in 70.1 IP - Jeff Bajenaru at AAA in 2005 It's possible to be a dominant reliever in the minors and be a pretty mediocre (or worse) reliever in the majors. I'd imagine that's what Hernandez is. -
Bills; that's 4 in a row. SOON TO BE 5, HA HA HA HA HA ...or not, but I can pretend

QUOTE(Shadows @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 01:51 AM) The 72 Dolphins are the greatest team period in the history of the NFL.. Only undefeated team ever, I don't know how you can argue with that regardless of who they played or that the season was a whole 2 games shorter.. No one else has ever done it, ever, so obviously its not that easy I'm just going to say that I feel the 85 Bears team was better; it's quite an easy argument too. They won more games, scored more points per game (including postseason), allowed fewer points per game (including postseason), and allowed fewer points total, including postseason again, while playing 2 more games. Add to it that they only had 2 games that were even close (close is a one score difference), while the Dolphins had 7 (again, including postseason), and there's no doubt to me that the Bears were the superior team. -
Well, if steroids make you stronger, and thus help increase your bat speed, are you then not going to make more contact? They are going to help you hit a baseball
-
I actually kinda like them. It's better than Arizona going from purple to red.

QUOTE(rackemup @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) I have an Erstad action figure, but its legs fell off That's funny, mine actually made a really nice open field tackle on me. oh wait, no it didnt, because he didnt play football, he was the goddamn punter

QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) The only reason I could think of for sending him down is maybe learning better plate discipline, he struck out 125 times in not even 400 at bats. But I do think it's a stupid move, he could really have a good year this year. No, he better shorten up his damn swing at the MLB level, because his bat is far too productive to be sitting in AAA.

Unconventional Offseason Idea/Strategy

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) Wasserman may be alright, he also may have an ERA around 6.00. A decent extra guy, certainly not someone you want to pencil in for 70 appearances. one or two of the 2007 flops become serviceable, and the bullpen can be decent again. Its been beyond awful the last 2 seasons. I agree with most of this post. The first part I slightly disagree with is that I think you probably can count on Wasserman for 70 appearances. What I do not think you can count on from him is 60 innings. That means more to me than appearances. Kelly Wunsch threw in 83 games in 2000, and threw 61.1 innings. I think that's about the type of production you can count on from Wasserman, and nothing more; if you are getting in for more than half the games, throwing right-handed, s***'s a problem, regardless of how good you are. That burden falls on the rest of the pen and the starters. I also agree with the second statement, and I think the arm is Aardsma. I, for whatever reason, have a mancrush on Aardsma. I think he's going to be a good reliever; he may perhaps just have a weak mind. When he's pitching well, he's one of the best relievers on the planet. When he's pitching poorly, I'd rather have Shingo. I think the better half will come with experience, though I figure the inconsistency will hang around him for a while. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) Except in MacDougal's case, I think he's likely to be more damaging than most we'd bring in. Plus he's probably still seen as high potential by others in the league, so if you can, I think you try to trade him. So...Billy Koch had great stuff, no? 94-97 fastball, when he was traded, along with a pretty solid breaking ball; just no control (familiarity?). He had half a season left on his deal, absolutely, and he made $6 mill that year, but I seem to recall the Sox picking up the rest of that paycheck, minus the minimum the Marlins had to pay; they got Wilson Valdez back. MacDougal's cheap, absolutely, but you aren't going to get much of anything for him. If KW is offering Sweeney for Qualls, and the Astros won't trade a good, but not great, reliever for a high reward prospect, what can the Sox expect for MacDougal? (That also does speak to the White Sox system; that, or Wade's crush on Costanzo. They'd rather trade their best reliever for Michael Bourn than trade a setup man with no guarantee of success (Qualls' K/9 in '07 was good, but it stands out, as he has never struck guys out at a good basis) for Sweeney. That, to me says, you are getting jacks*** for MacDougal) Point blank, I really don't think you should trade MacDougal unless it is the final piece of a deal; if you just trade him to get rid of him, you are almost assured of losing the deal. -

Chad Qualls for Ryan Sweeney was talked about...
witesoxfan replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) Chad Qualls would be public enemy no. 1 here. He would post a sub 4 ERA, and struggle to hold leads late in games. It's one thing to want to upgrade the bullpen and use a prospect to do so. But it is another thing to offer up someone with a whole lot of upside for someone who is awfully mediocre. Sweeney has no upside with no steroids -
Let's bring in Qualls so he can give up grand slams to Konerko some more, durr hurr

QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) eww, that would be a horrible deal for the Sox if you ask me. Looks like Sox fans aren't the only ones who hate Garland as well. "hate"?

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) Wow. if I was a GM, I would want to trade with you. All that for Bonser of the 5+ERA? The Twins would have a deal rivalling their AJ trade! Using the word "and" was probably a bad choice; I read it more as Rolen, Ankiel, or Duncan are all worth Bonser, as in they'd trade any one of those guys for Bonser.

I'd pay good money to see Clemens and Schilling fight to the death. Off-topic, and pretty harsh and brutal, but I really despise both of them.
