  1. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) You don't give talent like Russell or Phillips for a platooner. No, instead, you designate it for assignment.
  2. QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) Don't get me wrong. I'd much rather him be with another team next year. But if there's no takers, I'd rather start the year with him at 2nd and see if he can "return to form" rather than use him as a glorified bench player and giving the time to the extremely mediocre Richar. You have to think Uribe has a higher ceiling, so might as well give him a shot. How do you figure Richar is extremely mediocre?
  3. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) The positional aspect makes sense but since when do 25 year old prospects have higher ceilings than 20 year old prospects? That's hard to do unless the 25 year old is considering one of the better young players in the game. The fact that we were able to land Quentin for Carter would suggest that that's not the case and that the last couple seasons have hurt his value some in the eyes of MLB front offices. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of this deal, but if we traded a 20 year old for a 25 year old who can play right now and has a higher upside Kenny just pulled off the steal of the decade and I'm not willing to go quite that far. Pretty sure Frank Thomas or Albert Belle or any former MLB player who's twice my age has a higher ceiling than me simply because they are better than me. Age has nothing to do with ceiling.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) Owens > Bonds since its hard to hit when you're in jail. Bonds will be hitting. He just won't be hitting baseballs. He will be hitting that...you know, I'm just going to go ahead and stop before we all get a picture of Bonds doing deeds we don't want to see. He's still looks cool in a Sox uni though.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) Steve and I were just discussing this. Both of us are also fans of Owens abilities and potential. I officially hate both of you then
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:31 PM) Suddenly, our OF got a lot stronger. As of right now, Quentin is our starting LF, with Owens in center and Dye in right. If we sign one of Jones/Rowand/Fuku, our OF could be sitting pretty for a while. Fuku/Quentin/Dye & Owens 4th Quentin/Rowand/Dye & Owens 4th Quentin/Jones/Dye & Owens 4th Quentin has never played CF in the majors; tend to doubt he's about to start now.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) If this deal does in fact go down as written, our OF suddenly is set as Quentin, Owens, Dye, and is actually fairly well set up for the next few years with a decent amount of depth at a low low price. Or Rowand in CF; I really dont think KW has Owens as a starter next year. He was dumb last year, but I don't think he's that dumb.
  8. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) Hank Steinbrenner: And if the Yankees are to be a part of trade talks, "now" means by Monday, according to Steinbrenner, who said: "The Twins are aware of it, that I'm not going to wait much longer. And the truth of the matter is, they don't want to be stuck with only one team to deal with. If they're stuck with just Boston, they're going to get a lot less. I'm not going to be played. This is not a game. This is serious business. I'm not going to be played, us against the Red Sox. That's not going to happen." Twins are freakin pissed
  9. Quentin has played in AAA the past 3 years, which is the bad news. The good news is that he has absolutely destroyed AAA all 3 years. He also walks quite a bit, seems to have about 20-30 homer power, and he shoots the gaps well. Still 24, looks like a corner OFer. Arizona was down him him, but he's a better prospect than Carter.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) Anyone see or hear anything about a Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter deal? yes, Steve just IM'ed me about it "bhwk41: According to MLB Radio, the D’Backs will soon announce that they have traded OF Carlos Quentin to the White Sox for 20–year-old 1B Chris Carter."
  11. QUOTE(ChiSox35 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:06 AM) Actually, I hope we sign the real Pods to a *reasonable* contract, for ya know, when whoever we have play left field/ leadoff fails. *No Green* I laughed
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) Why would he approve a trade to the Brewers? because Milwaukee is a good team and so he can get the f*** away from LaRussa
  13. Generally, I don't see anybody drink whiskey at all around here; I see a lot of vodka, gin, and rum, probably more rum than anything else.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) Well we are not a player or 2 away from anything. You lie. They are a player or two away from last place.
  15. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) Phelps has a career .344 OBP over 446 MLB games. Just throwing that one out there. and a career .820 OPS, including an .864 OPS against lefties
  16. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) I saw it's stuck on one player for the deal to the Yanks...Kennedy is apparently out. Hughes + Cabrera + someone else. Good for the Yankees. So much for keeping their own talent. ***Not related to the Yanks but I saw the Rolen to Milwaukee is heating up again. I am curious what now happens to a guy like Matt Laporta now. Is there any chance we could land him? I'd love to see Paulie moved for some young prospects and deal a couple arms for LaPorta. We'd have to wait till June to make a move for LaPorta
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) Isn't Cuddyer just going to move back to 3B? No, the Twins have said they don't want to move him around anymore; he'll stay in RF.
  18. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) I mean it must be a mistake Pedro was on there right? Future HOFer. Bartolo Colon also won the Cy Young that year. Everyone else here is decent at best It's not why they were there, because those guys were good that year; Ensberg hit like 37 homers that year. Capuano was good the year he was an All-Star. He's not good anymore and none of those guys are either; that's the point. Rod Carew is a hall of famer, do you want him to be the 2Bman? Same argument, only on a much more exaggerated level.
  19. I really do not like Oklahoma at all, but they are getting screwed on these PI calls; they have been good plays all the way.
  20. QUOTE(Shadows @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) No you are, I saw what you said in the SSBL thread Oh, but I am not drunk yet. However, talk to me in an hour and a half, and I may be there. It shall be a glorious night.
  21. QUOTE(Shadows @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) Ginn is awesome, I don't care what you say sir but you are drunk
  22. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) Is Fukudome strictly a corner OF or would he be a viable option for CF? Corner outfielder by all accounts
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) OH.MY.GOD. where do you find....um what on earth made them...um don't know; don't really care at this point. That video really just makes me question humanity
