White Sox listening to offers....
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 01:11 AM) I've thought in the past that the Sox should move money away from 1B/DH and try to find a cheap AAAA 1B that can post a .800 OPS or above. The problem that's still easier said than done. Who knew Pena and Young would play like that last season? In the end talent evaluation is still crucial. It might even be more crucial than having the right strategy for putting together a team. Enough rambling -- I was posting to say that at this point I don't know what the Sox would spend money on. I'm not sire clearing salary helps all that much. On the other hand, tarding PK now is easier because he isn't 10/5 yet. But I really doubt he gets moved. I didn't know, but I was calling for that signing back in like late December early January, just as a 1B/OF type, and I really didn't care whether he could play outfield or not just because of his gold glove defense at 1B, his ability to hit RHP, his great batting eye, his power, the cheap cost, and the insurance policy he provided if(/when) Thome got hurt. He obviously wanted a chance to start, and he would have never gotten that here.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) It would be nicer to hear a Brian Anderson say something like this, but it is nice to see guys who are respected in the clubhouse leading the way by example. Uhhhhh

Here's to Paul Konerko & Jim Thome
I don't really understand the concept of this thread. I don't get a pat on the back for driving the speed limit or using my turn signal, so why are Konerko and Thome being applauded for not using steroids? I mean, cool s*** and everything, but they really didn't contribute anything to this.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) Roids must make people stupid. How can anyone believe that no one could hit babe ruths record for all these years. Then within a few years of each other 3 people shatter that record, not only beat it. But clear it by a bunch. Outside of the ability to use our eyes and see normal human beings go into Cro-Magnon reverse engineering mode. If the numbers start to go up again with HGH, they should raise the mound and shut the offenses down again. AHEM I believe that record belonged to Barry Pepper

White Sox listening to offers....
QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) Obviously Lincecum has better stuff then Gio, but he's much smaller, and has much bigger durability concerns. "Better stuff" is just a bit of an understatement

I think you guys would like to see this..
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) And somehow Kobe Bryant is the only male pictured... Are you subtly unincluding Mark McGwire because he has no testicles due to steroid use, or did you just honestly miss him? Because if it's the former, well done.

Here's to Frank Thomas.
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 07:03 PM) Yep Frank was robbed in 2000 by Mr. Roids himself (Giambi). Giambi is a well known roider, but there's no way I'm calling him Mr. Roids. That's Canseco by a mile.

Here's to Frank Thomas.
QUOTE(GOD @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Here's my opinion on Frank and the whole issue: Frank Thomas has been one of the few clean power hitters during the Steroid Era as well as a leader in the movement to get steroids out of baseball. In 1992 through about 1995 he was arguably the best hitter in baseball, however other players began taking steroids and belting out 40, 50, 60 home runs like it was nothing, while Thomas suffered through an array of injuries during the time while all these other players were becoming superstars because of their seemingly amazing feats. Thomas has managed to hit 500+ home runs over his career howver because of the abundance of players that are doing that now because of the juice he is somehow not even considered a first ballot hall of famer by many. How would you feel if you did something completely clean, yet YOU were the one being punished because you didn't cheat? This is the predicament Thomas faces and I think we should all comend him for doing it the right way, and if he is not a first ballot hall of famer that would be a true symbol of everything that has been wrong with baseball during this time, it's not the ones who cheated getting punished, it's the ones who were clean. the word of GOD

Here's to Frank Thomas.
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) Frank Already has 3 MVP's in my mind. Also if he was juicing, his prime would have lasted maybe 4-5 more years. Scary. and he would have been better, which is scarier

Here's to Frank Thomas.
Pride. That's it. (now, on a bit of a funny note to think about, just imagine for one mere second if Frank had done steroids...hed probly be a career .320 hitter with like 600 jacks and a career OPS of like 1.050 or something ridiculous. K now stop imagining that because it's gross)

Mitchell Report Thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) This clearly doesn't mean that either Sosa, the 05 White Sox, or anyone else not named was clean. In fact, it alleges that there were other people who were using who's names they couldn't get. But it is still a relief at some level that a lot of the guys from the recent world series teams haven't been connected with the networks that have already been broken up. first 16 starts - 102.2 IP, 3.77 ERA, 8-6 last 17 starts - 132 IP, 1.77 ERA, 12-0 that's ridiculous

Tejada dealt to the Astros
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) The thing is, we could make a leigitmate run at Roberts if the proposed Cubs trade is actually getting interest from Angelos, etc. That's the thing, I really doubt Angelos would move Roberts for that small of a price, and I would imagine Rogers is speculating right now rather than actually reporting. Speculation is meaningless.

How many sox?
QUOTE(JoeCredeYes @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) I would not be surprised one bit if Thome was on the list. Young Jim I see a bigger gut and a bigger butt. From what I understand, that happens to people when they age. Maybe everyone else has been wrong though. And this speculation seems kinda pointless to me. Can't we wait, like, less than 24 hours?
