  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) w00t Bout a year too late...it was pretty much all the trend in 2006 though.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Speaking of the Patterson name.. is Corey a f/a or is he still signed with the Orioles? I wouldnt mind taking a flyer on him, he could even leadoff for us. I'd much prefer him in the 9 hole, but he's pretty underrated. He's also a Boras client though.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) Could be, but knowing them, they'll just sign Eckstein. Since they didn't get a 2nd baseman back in this deal, hopefully it means they won't trade Roberts to the Cubs. You don't think having Eric Patterson included in a Roberts deal is a possibility?
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:17 AM) Well if you ever come home/stay home from the southern hemisphere, that could happen. aww
  5. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) Honestly, I nominate this for post of the year. We all seem to forget rather quickly that the Sox won it all just two seasons ago. We all wanted the dynasty, but I'll take the championship first and foremost. I actually don't think that many people forgot about it; quite the contrary, I think people either want the Sox to get better so we can get back to that (your negative people, which is why most bad moves are torn to absolute shreds, and the reason people want to go into a rebuilding mode, to be quite honest), or people don't want to trade those players who played a major contribution to the World Series team (hence so many people opposed to trading Jon Garland and Joe f***ing Crede). The World Series is still fresh, and if it weren't, this site wouldn't have near the number of posters it does, and we wouldn't care nearly as much as we do about the team. That World Series showed we can be the best, and we as fans want to get back there.
  6. You know, I like Detroit's team as much as anyone, but have people forgotten that the Indians were 1 game away from the World Series last year and won 96 games with Travis Hafner putting up an .836 OPS? Or are they just completely writing off a Cy Young winner, improved bullpen, and an offense that scored 811 runs last year (and is bound to improve)? No matter how "sexy" that Detroit lineup is - and it is very possibly the "sexiest" lineup of any in baseball - I still think the Indians have to be the favorite, don't they? Everyone keeps comparing the Sox to the Tigers, but ultimately, it may not matter if the Sox finish ahead of the Tigers if the Indians roll to another division win.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 08:58 PM) I'd say based on Broadway's 1 start in the majors, he may be the guy who Rogers has instead of Carter. Not that I'm saying that's right, but that's the only logic I could come up with. 10.1 IP, 14/5 K/BB, 1 ER and a .97 WHIP will "help" too I suppose...he was dominant, see!
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) What we are looking at is a 3rd baseman who just came off of major back surgery, who's agent is non other than Scott Boras. The reason a player gets Scott Boras is to get bags and bags of money for many years dropped off at their house. His clients dont sign contracts based on good heart, and love for a team. His clients get to FA and makes already mentioned bags of money. I am glad doctor that you have cleared him for baseball action and declare he should be healthy now. Fields defensively, sure Crede has him beat. But when its all said and done Fields should eclipse Crede's bat. I've stopped bothering. It's pointless at this point. Hope and pray February gets here before too awful long.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) Do they call it cock fighting or swords? Or who's in my butt?
  10. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) As for Egbert throwing 200 innings in 2009, I'll believe it when I see it. I do love how you represent this as fact, Wite. It's better conjecture than thinking any amount of moves at this point will make the team a contender. I'd rather just hang on to all youth and save it for the future, because the team in 2008 is going nowhere without a slight alignment of the planets.
  11. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) Yeah... that 33 is more like 39, and I'd rather see what the kids can do at this point. Seriously, I think he is easily the oldest 33 year old I've ever seen on the baseball field.
  12. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 08:59 AM) What was the mistake with getting Colon? He pitched very well especially down the stretch and his Septemebr at least kept it interesting. If Loiaza doesn't wet himself in September that team could have done something. Manuel f***ed that team pretty hardcore too
  13. Kosuke's numbers kinda look like they'll translate to Frank Catalanotto's-esque numbers, perhaps slightly better. I'd just assume the Sox stay out of that bidding.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) I could, and have been saying the exact same thing about a guy that this page seems to overwhelmingly want to give 4/$55 to. This is true too; Aaron Rowand does atleast provide a cog in CF for a few years where there is none. Atleast at 2B, I believe the Sox have a player who can be good in the future, but I just don't see that in CF with Owens or Sweeney or Anderson or whoever.
  15. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 10:43 AM) deal. in a heartbeat deal. K, that's a bullpen arm and a 200 inning starter for 2009 gone for a 2Bman whose entire offensive game depends upon his average. If he hits .270, he's a bad player. That's a really dumb trade.
  16. You know, slightly off-topic, but the NL should really add the DH. The pitcher batting suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkks
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 10:18 AM) It has nothing to do with the great Richar. Richar could be a serviceable 2nd baseman for low cost. I think a 90 loss team that has an aging core with a 100 million dollar payroll might want to inject some youth into the lineup. We will most likely pick up Rowand. So our low cost options are 3rd, 2nd and LF to give the lineup some financial restraint. Richar could be good and at the same time he could suck big time and be a bust. I would like to see what happens though. Its not like the team is just on the verge of fighting for a world series playoff run. We can see what he can offer, and if he offers nothing jettison him to the 5th level of hell for all I care. I like Figgins, I just think that there is little chance he gets moved from the Angels. ^^this I'm not really not sure the point of adding a 2Bman at this point; there are none on the market that are going to make the Sox are clearly superior team to most than what Danny Richar might be able to produce at the big league level, and any of them will cost quite a few million along with a few prospects on top of it. Add to it that I really, really doubt Anaheim does Crede and Sisco (or Masset or Aardsma) for Figgins too; Figgins hit .330 last year with an .825 OPS, yet his value is that of a 3Bman with a f***ed up back and a crappy AAAA reliever? I don't think so. I'd be very surprised if they didn't ask for something like Egbert and Broadway on top of just Crede.
  18. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 01:35 AM) Maybin may be a bit much. An interesting name brought up tonight with a friend was Dexter Fowler. The friend is a Braves fan and also had me convinced that their farm system is still loaded, and I believe him. Anyways...Fowler. Can he play CF in the majors or is it still too early? Can he bad had for bullpen plus a prospect or two? Say Mac + Massett and Sweeney or Anderson. Idk if it's a lot but seeing as they want bullpen. Mac seems to be removed with Linebrink. Massett is a nice arm and Sweeney is a decent prospect still. Anderson I think we have given up on so maybe he'd fit and needs the change. Idk Fowler isn't that top notch prospect but he is still a top 10 OF IMO. Still young. What do you think? Uhh, Fowler's in the Rockies system. And he was quite mediocre in A+ last year as a 21 year old. The absolute most I would give up for him would be MacDougal, and that would be if he graded out well according to the Sox scouts. I think you're friend sent you up a creek with no paddle.

    QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) *&^%#*^$% It looks like I missed an A in one class by two points (900 pts possible). I had two formatting errors on papers, either one would have been the difference. Damn you now have the right to do any or all of the following 1. b**** as much as possible (I'd expect way more than this) 2. Freak out on your teacher for being a meanie/inconsiderate asshole (whichever suits the situation better) 3. Get as drunk as possible (and then come posting on here) 4. pretty much anything else
  20. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 02:02 AM) Great minds think alike. Well that's what they say, but has anybody ever considered the possibility that the opposite is true too?
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) Ugh, I'm crazy hungover today, and I can't make myself get out of this chair and do some homework. This sucks. so I definitely wasn't just hungover. I had the chills for about 3 hours to go with my seriously hurting stomach, I had pains all over, and I eventually vomited. Then I drank some water, and about an hour and a half later, vomited again. Took my temp and I was up to 100.3, and drank some water to try and cool down. Bad idea, cuz that came up before I went to bed. Slept for 7 hours last night, went to class, and slept for 4 more hours this afternoon, and I feel a ton better. End of story though, being sick sucks so f'ing much.
  22. QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 08:22 PM) The fact that most people think this trade is so ridiculous actually makes me think it wasn't so bad of an idea. It is risky, original and worth a shot IMO. Not many of the trades that KW makes are predicted by people on here. Hey, you never know how the Marlins view Fields compared to Maybin. Same goes for KW. This is still the kind of deal I would make. Clearly there are very poor options available for CF, and it would probably be easier to fill the 3B hole than the CF hole (both long term and short) What would it take to trade for a guy like Blalock? He seems to be in the doghouse and still has huge upside for a young 3B. I would be willing to get rid of pitching prospects, Fields and Owens to acquire a combo of Maybin/Blalock I'm pretty sure most baseball officials view Maybin to be quite superior to Fields It's a trade that the Marlins wouldn't consider. Maybin was the centerpiece of a deal that netted the Tigers one of the best hitters in the game; now the Marlins are just going to trade him for a mediocre defensive 3B who was barely average at the plate last year while also getting a CFer who was absolutely brutal offensively? No, there's no chance that would happen.
  23. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) Andy Gonzalez ? Gio...and they still wouldn't make it. Sheets is injury prone as hell, but he can still fetch a pretty good return; and for some reason, people think Milwaukee is going to just give Bill Hall away for beans. There's no way they'd make that deal; you'd have to include either Danks or DLS for them to even think about it, and that's just too big of a risk for both the White Sox and Brewers.
  24. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) Why do people assume we could have gotten MORE in every trade? KW always settles for the wrong package in trades. Looking at other teams message boards, thier "fans" say the same thing. The Angels message board couldn't believe that all they got for a gold glove shortstop who is really coming into his own with hitting was a barely average innings innings starter when they already had 5-6 good starting pitchers. Unless you know of another offer on the table that was significant better than this one, of course. Come on, you mean KW didn't shop Garland around before just snatching Cabrera up?
