QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) That's cause we're building a team to compete with the White Sox. Hopefully Rick doesn't find out. "Do you think you can compete with the Tigers this year? "The question should be, 'do I think the Tigers can compete with us!'"

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) So Andrus is another grossly overpaid guy? What's going to happen when every team except the truly low budget teams have 6-7 Andruses on the roster? No, he's not grossly overpaid. He might be overpaid, but if I were a Rangers fan, I wouldn't be upset whatsoever with Andrus' contract or, at the very least, his AAV. He's being paid as an above average regular and that's exactly what he is, perhaps with a ceiling that's a bit higher. As for the Sox acquiring him, no, I do not believe they should. Andrus is a pretty good player, but he doesn't fit what the Sox need at the current moment.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) Enter another argument about WAR overvaluing players like Heyward or Alex Gordon with high walk rates and/or stellar defensive abilities/outfield arms. Or enter another argument of people underrating the value of defense for teams. Why is WAR automatically wrong when a player doesn't meet our perceptions? Why can't we just say "Well, maybe we underestimated the value of defense?" It's a legitimate discussion worth having, but to say that Gordon and Heyward shouldn't be ranked highly because much of their value is derived from defense is an incredibly shallow argument that I'm not buying for a second.

This doesn't surprise me at all, as I figured during the season they had interest. In the end, I see him getting priced out of the Sox range.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 07:25 PM) You think there is going to be a big market for Carl Crawford and his $62.3M? I don't see it. The Dodgers are going to be choosing between getting a1/2 decent return and paying most of that 62M or getting little in return and freeing themselves of most(but not even close to all) of the $62M. There's not going to be a lot of teams lining up for Crawford. He's 33, really expensive, and due a lot of $ I wouldn't necessarily say a big market, but between Crawford and Ethier, I would say that Crawford has more value, all things being equal. Thus, I think it's safe to say the Dodgers would prefer to deal Crawford over Ethier if they are going to have to pay one of them because they're likely to extract more value out of him while Ethier remains a better option off the bench.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) I had Foles at QB. He got hurt, so I picked up the Sanchize and then for good measure picked up Jordan Matthews. I started Matthews in place of Michael Floyd (damn you Michael Floyd), so I'm hoping Sanchez throws for about 400 yards and 4 TDs and that Matthews catches 10 passes and 2 TDs. I'm down 50, so that would be amazing. Now currently winning 125-122 !!!!!! -

QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) He should finish his career in Seattle and then go away. He'll get a lot of HOF votes. I think he's a first ballot hall of famer.

Ichiro doesn't fit what the Sox are looking for at this point. If this were next year, it'd be different, but it's just not the time for him.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) Dodgers will not put any money in play if the Sox were to trade Danks for him. Hell, there's a chance the Dodgers ask for money back if Danks were to be included. I would look to trade Danks elsewhere, but still try a trade for Kemp. Heck, perform an MLB The Show trade and trade Danks for CarGo. LF - Kemp CF - Eaton RF - CarGo The Rockies would be able to trade Carlos Gonzalez without eating any money for decent talent. They'd hang up if you tried Danks straight up for Gonzalez. Also, the Dodgers would not necessarily ask for money back if the Sox included Danks, but, depending on the play, they could want a player. Beyond even that, if you added Kemp and Carlos Gonzalez, then the Sox would be done making moves and you'd have yourself an expensive ass DH in Matt Kemp because Avisail Garcia, in all of his clumsiness, is a better defender than Matt Kemp.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 05:22 PM) thanks i was off. either way, i still like his speed. bottom line he can still play ball. He's also due $62.3 mill over the next 3 years. He's a good player, but I don't know that he's what the Sox need right now. If the Dodgers would take John Danks, Matt Davidson, and Erik Johnson, yeah, I'd be all over it, but they'll be able to get more than that. I do think they end up moving both Kemp and Crawford and they'll go with Van Slyke, Pederson, Puig, and Ethier. If they do end up moving Ethier, I think it will be to the Sox, I think Danks will be involved, and I think the two parties will try and figure out a compromise for 2017 and Ethier is owed a lot of money while Danks is owed nothing beyond that.

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine
witesoxfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think if the Mets were willing to trade Wheeler for Ramirez, I'd have a really, really hard time turning it down. I understand the value of Ramirez and that he remains a fairly good player, but you cut $10 mill in salary and add like 5 years of control to the rotation. -
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Rear LovAngel. Uh, oh. GORDITA CRUNCHELA I HEAR HES A TASTY YOUNG PROSPECT

For about a minute, I thought Veal was the truth. Then the command/control issues resurfaced and he was gone and never to be heard from again.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
witesoxfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The D in the first half was just abysmal. It was like they had never seen a go route in their life. How do you only have a single high safety and then your corners play zone coverage in the flats. Those are high school mistakes. Seriously, Nelson couldn't have been more open on his two touchdowns. -

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) mlb trade rumors not saying sox talking to vmart like blue jays and manriners are. So your "source" is MLB Trade Rumors and solely MLB Trade Rumors. OK. -

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) i have not seen white sox are going after vmart just tigers blue jays and mariners. Then you have not been paying attention. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) tigers have only 20 million to spend this offseason. Uh huh. Right. Because slight fiscal limitations have stopped Illitch from spending money above and beyond before. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) What if the Mariners offered him 4 years 91 million and a pony? Then what, mr pants are smart? Then I'd offer him 4 years, $91 mill, a pony, AND a free steak dinner. Beat that. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) Then WTF was with them moving Lind? I have no idea, but I've read multiple reports and they all seem to contradict anything Toronto is doing. I just don't see why they'd deal Encarnacion or Bautista, but they could fetch a huge haul for either one of those two.

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
witesoxfan replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) would u want sox too offer that much cus i wouldnt want them too. That's not the point. Why would the Mariners offer him $90 mill over 4 years? I mean, sure, if they did, they'd probably get him, but they won't offer him that much, so really, your "what if" is a moot and irrelevant point. I was proving to you how irrelevant it was by doing the same thing. Most people feel that the Sox are a team that is likely to go after Victor Martinez and he'd fill a very big need. We'll just have to see. I personally think he ends back up with Detroit, but we'll see in the next month or so. -

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) I just don't know. everybody has an opinion and I will respect that. but..... I am not excited about it. if we were going to go for someone, why not Edwin Encarnacion from tor. get a window to redo his contract. tor is hurting with salary, even if they were bid on some players. yeah there salary is what 25+ mil right about now. but I was tossing that out there. Toronto is talking about meeting with Pablo Sandoval and Russell Martin. I'm not sure how much their hurting to move salary at this point.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) You think maybe the Sox would be better off kicking the tires on a player like CarGo? He is younger, cheaper and a better fielder than what the Dodgers have to offer. I'm actually warming up to the idea of Cargo but I'll save further comment for the CarGo thread. My concern with Gonzalez is primarily the injury history. If the Sox looked at him and felt he could withstand the season, I'd love it if the Sox brought in Carlos Gonzalez.
