so may I ask, what exactly is the difference between frequently and often?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) There is no reason right now to trade Joe Crede for "C" prospects. so you mean to tell me that Joe Crede for Jon Link and Michael Dubee is a flatout meaningless trade

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) That's right. I like to "reach around" and tug on its power cord during... well that's a shock

Edgar Renteria traded to the Tigers

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) Detroit drew over 3 million fans at 37k per game. The won 88 games, and will have the financial ability to cover this. If they want Arod, they can bid with the rest of them. And could use him at 3rd base. If they get Arod as well, this team becomes a monster. Their young pitching, and young prospects plus some of the power they have. It would be a tough division. I'd say rebuild regardless of what happens, but if Detroit signs ARod too, with Cleveland having the young pitching and hitting they do...I'd say sell off and save some money, cuz you ain't doing s*** in this division for a while. -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) So 2008 doesn't = next year? I'm sorry, he'll be 34.887 next SEASON. Damn right.

QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) damn if renteria can be had for 2 minor leaguers basically, we shouldnt have to trade jon to get furcal.this makes me think we may be able to still have a solid rotation and upgrade at ss by trading minor leaguers too. Different philosophies between different organizations. And the Sox really don't have expendable prospects like the Tigers do; the White Sox expendable prospects aren't going to get much in return. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Why would the Dodgers want Contreras. They already have an old, expensive, injury prone pitcher in Schmidt. I've heard from a few people that they're very interested in Dontrelle. Are the Twins shopping Johan at all? -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) That's truly intriguing. Considering his injury, I'd probably pull the trigger, but man... Damon's going to be 35 next year. I'd prefer putting Crede at 3B, Fields at 1st, and dealing Pauly. He'll be 35 when the season is over. I don't think any team has plans to play through November 5th.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) I really wish people would stop saying this trade as if it's possible. If the Dodgers are looking to get out of Furcal's contract, why would they take on a bad contract that still has a few more years on it? If we're going to get Furcal, it's going to have to be for Garland. I'm just reaching for straws more than anything. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) You figure with Hu ready to go, that Furcal should be on the block. We could use a leadoff hitter, and a shortstop. They want Furcal gone; offer Contreras -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) I think this takes DET out of the A-Rod race. Not with Brandon Inge coming off a 80 OPS+ -
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) Yes on medium. I'm no great Guitar Hero player, but I don't usually have any problem with any medium songs. That one is tough at any level. I am a medium guy too; don't really play that often, but I'm gonna get it for XMas. Still, if it's that hard on medium...whoa.

Predict where A-Rod will be playing in 2008

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) Scary rumor I just heard that ARod to the Tigers might be the most likely situation of all. Boras and Leyland are very close friends. f*** -
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) Who knows what will happen, but Cleveland had a horrendous bullpen and a lot of bad luck and only won 77 games in 2006. Then won the division this year. We had a terrible bullpen, bad hitting, and a perfect storm of bad luck this year. This is true, but they were also ridiculously unlucky and had an absolutely terrible pen. Their 78-84 record was 11 games below their pythagorean record of 89-73. That only means so much, but this is sorta odds playing out. The Sox were "lucky" to win 72 games this year, as their pyth W-L was 67-95. I hold out hope, but I don't think I see it.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) Man, that Dragonforce song is absolutely ridiculous to play at the end. I probably was lucky to hit 60% of the notes. ...on medium?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) 1. I think that his performance this season has to somewhat depress what his value will be on the open market. After his work this year, I don't think anyone's offering him $5-$8 million a year. Danys Baez had a 4.53 ERA in 2006 between the Dodgers and Braves, and the Orioles had no problem giving him 3 years and $19 mill all the same. I think it's completely reasonable for Linebrink to get in the $5-8 mill range. Vizacaino is also a Vizcaino type guy to the pen. And so is Aardsma. You don't spend a zillion dollars on a bullpen arm, unless said bullpen arm is Mariano Rivera. That could be, but you also have to realize he was pitching in Petco; he's going from the best pitcher's park in the league to a good pitcher's park to the worst park to pitch to righties in the league; that's a huge difference. He'd also be going from the NL to the AL, and that's a huge difference too. On top of that, his peripherals have gotten worse over the past 3 years, and this year resulted in a 1.50 WHIP for the Brewers in 25 innings. It's not possible to sustain a 3.80 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. If you want experience, there are better ways of doing it than shelling out a $20+ mill contract for a reliever; hell, give Jay Witasick a shot in the pen, it can't be hopeless.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 02:05 AM) I can't believe there are actually people who think this. Then again, I log onto Soxtalk and see it right before my eyes. Apparently Crede's defense and "clutchness" were enough to overcome the ~175 point difference in OPS betwee he and Jermaine Dye. Silly me, I guess I thought JD's season -- I'd venture to say one of the top ten indivual season's in White Sox history, although I can't prove that at the moment -- was 'most valuable' to the 2006 club. Depends on how you want to determine it. If by OPS or OPS+, well, um, Frank owns like 7 of the top 10. If considering just raw power, than I'd absolutely agree, and would probably put it in the top 3 (2nd most homers in a season in Sox history, 5th best slugging)

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) Joe Crede is the most underrated, overrated player on this team. I know that doesn't make sense but it's true. No, it makes perfect sense; people think he's some deity, while others treat him like he's garbage. Truth be told, when healthy and putting up his 2006 season, he's somewhere in between, and I tend to think that's the actual Joe Crede, he just may never be healthy again.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:40 AM) Arods VORP 96.6 Lowell 46.5 Santana 57.7 = 104.7 So Arod by himself is almost just as much as Lowell and Santana according to Vorp. Arod plays in a park that doesnt favor the right handed hitter. Imagine if he was here, in the bandbox in the summer when a fart gets the ball out. He'd hit 60
-
QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) Or Hawk just said that because he really thought Crede was our best player at that time. We're not just talking offense here. Does anyone recall how bad our starting pitching was the first half of '06? Crede would pick some hot shot down the line and turn it into an out. Without Joe, we would've been a .500 team that year. K, then without Thome or Dye, how bad are the Sox? 75 win team? Joe Crede did not take the Sox from 81 wins to 90 wins, unless the Sox other choice was Andy Gonzalez.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) I am so sick of OPS. OPS doesn't mean s*** to me when looking at how a player played. ARod has played like s*** in the postseason as a Yankee. It has nothing to do with stats. He has looked like complete garbage at the plate. It's not like he was hitting liners all over the place, because he wasn't and hasn't. He really looked like s*** when he hit that homer too.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) Okay, then how do you judge a players postseason preformance? So, Brad Hawpe didn't completely suck this world series cause he only had 15 PA's or something? You DON'T judge a player's postseason performance. I don't think any less of Todd Helton or Troy Tulowitski or Brad Hawpe then I did before, nor do I think any more of Dustin Pedroia, JD Drew, or David Ortiz. And apparently someone missed ARod's .941 OPS in his first 56 PA's. But he's a choker...GTFO.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) And I care why? Even if we do sign him, which I pray we don't, he's not going to get 30 million dollars over 8 years. That wasn't the f'ing point. My point was that Bonds was a choker until he put up a 1.550+ OPS in the playoffs. ARod's a sleeping giant, and his "choking" is overstated and not valid (like 36 f'ing PAs, you can't base s*** on that).
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:30 PM) ARod is a great player and all, but no way is he worth that type of contract... Especially for a player who chokes like a b**** in the playoffs. Barry Bonds is a choker too

QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) Oh I can't wait for more Papelbon Riverdance not THAT IS SO FUNNY WHEN HE DOES THAT, LIKE SUPER FUNNY, BECAUSE HES DANCING LIKE HES FUNNY IS FUNNY
