  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) Who was the last US free agent of any consequence that the Sox brought in from another team? Dye? They never get involved in free agency for any big names like the consistantly successful teams do. So do you want him to bring in Gil Meche for $55 mill? To address the first question, 2005. Jermaine Dye, Dustin Hermanson, AJ Pierzynski, Tadahito Iguchi, and Orlando Hernandez; all 5 were pretty substantial free agents and played huge roles in the season. Secondly, name me some consistently successful teams that build their teams through free agency without developing players from within. It's impossible; if you do not have a minor league system, you cannot win. Where are the Red Sox without Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Papelbon, and, quite frankly, Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez (who were used to bring in Beckett and Lowell)? Where are the Rockies without essentially their entire roster? You do not build teams through free agency; you finish teams in free agency and build them from developing players from within. Thus, I really don't care if KW is good at bringing or involved in big name free agents, because it's a terrible way to build a team.
  2. QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) For the 1st half of the '06 season, Crede was our best player. Subjective? Yes. But, I'm not alone on that. Hawk said that every other day on Comcast. On scale of 1-10 in rating Crede's defense...Crede is a 10 at the hot corner IMO. If Hawk could have children with Joe Crede, he probably would. That's why he said what he did every other day on Comcast. Joe Crede was not the best player, he wasn't the 2nd or 3rd best either. He was probably about 7 or 8 on that list.

  4. QUOTE(scenario @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) Hmmm... you're right. Wasserman is no longer showing up on roster of the Venezuelan team. Sox players hate Venezuela I guess.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) Are the Rockies planning on resigning Kazuo Matsui. He has put up very good numbers since going to Colorado (it could just be because he's in Colorado though) and could be a guy that plays a ton at 2nd while also getting time at SS in a pinch. He has good speed (30 plus steals this past season) and seems to finally be adjusting to major league play. Note: I don't think he's a star by all means and he may get paid too much (possibly by the Rox thanks to his great post-season play), but if you are talking a few mill than he'd be a guy worth going after. .330/.381/.482/.864 .249/.304/.333/.638 You can guess where he hit .330. I'm pretty sure you know.
  6. Just so you know, Josh Fogg has a Hall of Fame heart.
  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) Very true - I just have no confidence in KW during free agency. Uh, why?
  8. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Funny you should say that seeing as how the Red Sox have been willing to give Ramirez away in previous seasons and the White Sox need a LFer. The way this team is currently built (ie slow power hitters) I don't think Manny would be a good fit here regardless of his OPS. But get some guys with some speed who can get on base.... Bob If by give him away, you mean trade him for Alex Rodriguez, then you are correct. They did put him on irrevocable waivers after like the 2002 season, but that was when there was still like $80-100 mill left on the deal. It'd be a hell of a risk to take on that much money, even on a hitter as good as Manny.
  9. Georgia up two scores on Florida. What the hell is wrong with this season
  10. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Pablo is the back up for sure and can play what 4 positions? My thougt at 2B if Richar doesn't develop is Iguchi again. Now maybe Tad can play SS also??? no he cant
  11. QUOTE(PHAT ALBERT @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) Trade Joe ASAP. Let Field man 3B for the next five years, annually putting up higher HR and OPS figures than Crede will between 2008-2012 but, granted, not getting to a couple of balls a month that Joe would have. there's a huge difference between Crede and Fields at 3B
  12. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) Also mentioned that besides the goalposts, he also found some whisky bottles that he estimated from the mid to late 1800's I'm just gonna go ahead and give my great great great grandpa the credit for that one.
  13. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) From Wikipedia: Clearly, you need to heed the advice of knightini, and find better pastrami. i love pastrami
  14. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) That's prolly where I'm remembering it from. Close enough. Who can be expected to remember Iowa, anyway? If that state were any more boring, hell, even South Dakota might look good... Just kidding, wite...South Dakota could never look good... If that state were any more boring, it would be Nebraska i win
  15. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) I believe the Sox are originally from somewhere in Minnesota, only Comiskey moved them before 1901. Per wikipedia (so you know it's true!)
  16. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Boston has become the Yankees in regard to salary. They can give money away without any repurcussions to it being a bad contract. They suffered with Manny's contract for years. Lugo and Drew are bad deals. Dice-K can be average for the rest of the contract and it will not matter to them. There is no such thing as a bad contract to the Yankees or Red Sox for the most part. I wish the NL had a team other than the cubs that were run like that. The Mets are close but they do have some restraint. I agree with the entire post but that line, because quite frankly, I'll suffer a $20 mill salary for a 1.000+ OPS and ridiculous marketing.
  17. The best part of that inning was watching Konerko GIDP; I threw a chair into my couch when that happened. Then Blum went yard, and I went screaming around the house at like 1:30.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) I think the league allegiance thing will die with our generation. Interleague play, the internet, satellite TV, mlb-TV, all kind of chip away at those old allegiances. I actually disagree. I cheer for the Rockies right now because that's just how much I hate the Red Sox (and Yankees for that matter too, just not as much as the Red Sox). If it were any of the other 12 teams in the AL, that's who I'm cheering for. I just absolutely cannot stand the Red Sox organization in the least.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) "I don't think that taste is there."
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) I think if the Sox are counting on good things from either of them, there is reason to be very concerned. agreed, unless "good things" are a 5.50 ERA; you can't even count on that though either.
  21. and the Red Sox bullpen is by far the stupidest thing I've seen in quite some time. I hate the Red Sox in so many ways it's probably against the law.
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 08:07 PM) I think I have a crush on Ubaldo I've seen him make one mistake; it nearly cost him 3 runs.
