QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) As much as I dislike Eckstein, I wouldn't mind bringing him in as a bench player to back up at 2B and SS, and also bring in a real SS like Hu. a bench player like Erstad was this year. Meaning he's going to start when he's healthy. signing Eckstein is a terrible move.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) They're not good. Anybody who tells you that they are is fooling themselves. Neither of them has any significant major league future for any team resembling a good one. If Chad Durbin, Jason Grilli, and Todd Jones can all remain in the Detroit bullpen, then anything's possible. They're assuredly are not franchise savers, but give pitchers a chance before just completely writing them off; that's 3 pitchers - Phillips, Floyd, and Broadway - that you have given absolutely no chance at all. Floyd's turned in a mixed bag of performances, but he has a future in the majors, whether as a starting pitcher or reliever, and I'd imagine both Broadway and Phillips - much moreso Phillips than Broadway, but I feel both do - have a future in the majors, both likely as relievers or rubber armed 5th starters.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) but why keep picking on Darin Erstad like he's been the reason the Sox have been a failure this year??? IMO the guy has a legitimate spot on this team as a 4th OF/backup 1B next year, a Mackowiak type position. Hitting .265-.270 in that role while being solid defensively, is not a bad choice. Because his .678 OPS IS one of the reasons the White Sox have been a failure this year. If you expect that production to help put you over the top, then you are destined to finish in last place. I want nothing to do with him on the team next year because the possibility remains that he may start. A backup player has to be good enough to be a fill-in starter in case of an injury, and Erstad is nowhere near good enough to start for a MLB team. Right now he's a 5th outfielder/emergency 1Bman/pinch hitter in the NL. The Sox can absolutely find a better backup roaming from AAA team to AAA team, and that is something they should do.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) I was looking for the post about Hawk at the Bolingbrook golf course talking about how Ozzie wants Oney to be the Sox's starting SS for next year. How has he done so far at Bristol? .122/.175/.144/.320 (yes, it was rounded up for him) Good lord that is f***ing pathetic. In 90 at-bats he struck out 23 times. In 32 games he has committed 11 errors. LOL so you're telling me there's a chance

I have a White Sox shirt I wear every now and then. I misplaced it during the summer. I found it today, and promptly put it on. The last time I wore said shirt, Buehrle pitched...and he had a good outing.

First, I count 12 wins. Secondly...it's a name everyone knows and recognizes. Finally, Tyler Lumsden was terrible in AAA for the Royals this year, and Daniel Cortes hasn't touched AA yet. I'd also take Sisco - a former KC reliever - over Ross Gload simply because of upside and potential longevity. So really, I'm not sure which reliever you're talking about, as far as the White Sox are concerned. MacDougal was absolutely outstanding for the Sox last year - the reason the move was made - and he's still got the stuff to be an absolute stud of a setup man or even fill-in closer now. And Gload is 31, while Sisco doesn't turn 25 until the turn of the year. I really don't believe the Sox were duped by the Royals in either deal, but perhaps that's just me.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) A guy that can throw four pitches for strikes, is one of the leading strikeout pitchers in the minors, limits walks, pitches inside, limits home runs and is not repeating a league? He's in the top tier right now. He's my top prospect if I were to be grading on becoming an adequate big league player in the organization, because I see him throwing atleast 800+ innings for the White Sox - so long as he isn't traded - and perhaps more.

September 1st -- White Sox vs. Cleveland
witesoxfan replied to Flash Tizzle's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Shoppach needs to learn how to take a home run trot. He almost beat Lofton to the plate, and Lofton had a 90 foot head start on him. -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) g-damn Erstad and his 2nd highest batting average on the team!!! .264. Sweet. Does he get on base at a good rate along with that? (answer is no) Does he hit for power to go along with that? (answer is no). Is he under the age of 28 so there's some hope that he can get better as a player (answer is a resounding no). You are defending Erstad as if he's been good. He has not been good, and he better not be apart of the future plans for the Sox, seeing as how he's 33 and declining.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) I think you would see .270/.345/.470 out of Rowand... And I'd take that over Hunter anyday of the week. Rowand's not that strong of a hitter to be putting up an IsoS of 200 nor is he a patient enough hitter to be putting up a .075 IsoD, atleast not while hitting .270. There have been two years in his career where his IsoS has been 200 or better, 2004 and 2007. He hit .310 in 2004, and he's hitting .310 this year too. He's also never put up an IsoD of .075; the closest he's been is this year at .071, and he's already destroyed his career high for walks in a season (like 33% more than he's ever walked in any other season). To put up such a season, Rowand would probably have to have around 30 doubles, 25 homers, 70 walks, all while keeping his average in the .270 range. Doesn't seem possible to me, because I really don't ever see Rowand putting up an OPS anywhere between .775 and .850. He's just too streaky of a hitter; if he's going like s***, he'll put up his usual .725-.750. If he's going well, it's .875-.925. I'm not sure there's an in between, but perhaps there is if he gets super hot for one half and then sucks the next.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) Sorry I will never agree with just giving a player like Iguchi away. Also, Richar despite his two hits tonite looks like another horses*** White Sox "prospect" to me. Iguchi, if he stays healthy has a couple more productive years in him. I don't romanticize Rowan, or any other ex Sox player. The Sox got something for him. I know Iguchi started off bad, is at the end of his contract, blah blah blah. I still wanted more for him, and no amount of torture will change my mind. 2B looks like another gaping hole in the wall. I can think of a certain 2Bman who put up a .595 OPS (.212/.266/.329) line over a 2 month span - 184 PA's - in his rookie season too. He's still playing and was a top 8 2Bman for about 5-7 years. I'll also say I think Richar's got a better shot at being a good big league player than Ryan Sweeney. Maybe you can compare that opinion to me also thinking it's going to be cold in December, but who knows.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 01:21 AM) I am he gets it this year, it would be one of the few highlights of a lousy season. Actually, as far as highlights are concerned, I'd say this year was probably pretty good. Buehrle's no-no, Jenks tying the most consecutive set down streak, and - even though he's a Blue Jay - Thomas hitting 500. The season itself has just sucked.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) I don't mean to be a jerk, but why are these the most important standings at this point? Do people actually agree with Kalapse on this? Have you no pride in the White Sox? Do you actually think getting the top draft pick will help the team significantly compared to what ever first round pick we get? My god. What's the point of being good dude? I'm not going to stop cheering for the Sox, but I honestly don't really want them to win; losing assures you a shot at a superstar player, even if that shot is like 10%.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 08:03 AM) Never confuse drive with just being a violent asshole for no reason. The fact is Hunter doesn't give a s*** about winning. Thats why in the 1st round of the playoffs he always becomes one of the worst CF's in baseball defensively over night. I admit it was funny watching him be lazy in CF last year for the Twins but to have his lazy ass dogging it for us would piss me OFF!! 8-28-07 -- Daredevil Catch Lazy ass? Really? Step back, assess the situation, and use some logic, and then realize that Rowand isn't as good as Hunter.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) We were told it was the World Baseball Classic and playoffs that had Freddy's velocity at about Charlie Haeger level. We were lied to? I thought he had to be hurt. Freddy had stiffness in the spring when they checked him again, at least as thorough as they would have had him checked in any trade, and it came back clean. If Gillick is a fool what does that say about Ozzie, a guy who knows Freddy a lot better than any of us, and a guy who would know a lot better than any of us if something is not right? He said Freddy would win 20 games in 2007. That he'd make a good politician. :huh Seriously, you think Ozzie is going to bad mouth not only his son-in-law (or something), but a former player of his whom he liked? Get real; he's not going to say "I think Garcia is going to suck next year because he's lost a lot of velocity."
