  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 07:38 AM) Well I guess if you sit in front of your computer all day long, you might as well get your exercize by jumping to conclusions.
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 12:31 PM) Let's have some more fun. So who would Ozzie say "can play" on this team? Who would you say? Thome, because hes ridiculous. Erstad, because he said so himself. Terrero, because he's been pretty fun since getting his call up. And then maybe Iguchi, but that's give or take, really. Pitching, Jenks, Garland, Buehrle, Vazquez almost have to be. And Danks, Contreras, and Logan are probably give or take too. I think he has to be very happy with how the rotation has pitched, but he can't get past it because of how poor the bullpen has been and how terrible the offense has been.
  3. I just thank you for mentioning that she has no musical talent. Absolutely hate that voice.
  4. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) Yes, I remember before the season everybody going ape s*** because Boone made it over Sisco and Aardsma. Sisco, along with the entire bullpen for the most part, was good the first 5 weeks. Nobody was clamoring for Boone when those guys were pitching well. That's all I'm saying. Just checking, you do mean that people were going apes*** because Boone didn't make it over Sisco, right? That's what I recall all along.
  5. Let's have some fun... and speculate as to who. Obviously, Vlad. I figure Vidro too. If you count just half a year, I figure Bartolo is another. Then I'm torn on the final one; does he interview the veteran Galarraga, the so often used Latino reference Orlando Cabrera, the patient, homer or nothing Wilkerson, the numbers starter in Ohka, or the horse of the staff, Javier Vazquez. I say Vazquez, just cuz I'm a Havy Jomer.
  6. With a good retooling job and some better coaching, the Sox are back in contention next year, and are back to being very solid in 2009. I don't even think about trading Jim until next year, and from there you can tell about where the organization is going to be.
  7. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) Easier ways of bringing in players with talent like that ? Is that why Kenny brought in so many ? The point is the Sox have none. As in none. There is no one in the organization ranked as high as Dukes. This year they brought up Sweeney,Owens, Fields, Bukvich, Prinz, Aardsma, Masset, Gonzalez, Terrero, Anderson etc. - ALL FAILED. Not a good big leaguer in the bunch. But, you are right . We need more than just Dukes. We need 3 more top talents like him to rebuild. But, getting each one is crucial. Right now, he can be had for a decent reliever. I'm pretty sure about that. We'll see soon enough. I'm not saying it's a guarantee but I'd take the chance. The Sox are in deep doo doo right now. I'll simply say that I'd rather have Bill Selby in RF than Elijah Dukes. A person with as many problems as Dukes seems to have needs some pretty intense psychotherapy to become right again. And you aren't going to get him for MacDougal. At the very least, it's going to cost Broadway, and even considering Broadway has been thought of as a likely 4th or 5th starter, he has more value as a small piece of a trade than he does in trading for Dukes, because I see it as a near impossibility that Dukes stays in the majors long term.
  8. another thing, DBAH0, I really don't mind trading Iguchi within the division at all. Seeing as how they have Barfield in AAA, Iguchi will only be there for the 2nd half of the year, and they'll let him go come the offseason. The problem I see lies in the fact that they could get better compensation for him if they offer him arbitration and he is a type A free agent. If so, the Sox are in kind of crummy shape, seeing as how they are basically taking some run of the mill prospect when they could be getting 2 first rounders out of the deal. If so, I almost just want to hang on to him and take a chance. Of course, if he can't be offered arbitration, then what I'm worried about is meaningless, and I seem to recall something along the lines of that too with foreign free agents. Anyways, I like the plan DB, and really, I'm wondering if the Sox don't already have some arms within the minor league system that will work. Logan and Thornton are probably fine, Jenks is a stud, and I really don't mind the thought of guys like Day, Aardsma, Oneli, and MacDougal from within; on top of that, KW can probably get some potential reliever types thrown into trades as well.
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) You've always got every answer, don't you? Try not to be so damn smug with every post. I don't buy this Jenks in better shape crap. He's just as big this season as he was the last. He even laughed when asked about losing 25 pounds. Of course I have every answer.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Boone Logan f***ing rocks. One inning, three Ks today against the heart of the Philly order. Made Victorino, Utley and Howard look silly. Take that you h8erz from last season!!!! He good
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) Oh, MIGUEL Cabrera? I figured this thread was about Melky Cabrera, someone who we might have a shot at. I think the Marlins might trade you their Cabrera if you could go back in time and give them that 2005 World Series win. And you threw in Danks. can I atleast get a World Series to be dated later
  12. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) 3. Callaspo did get in trouble, but a lot of players have I think we can afford to give another chance, the second chance thing seemed to have worked for Jenks. Byrnes has been hot and Dye has been cold but I dont think anyone would say that Byrnes is in anyway better than Dye. Jenks was free. There was absolutely no risk and all the reward in the world. Callaspo isn't quite no risk, seeing as you're trading them a hell of package in return. Do you seriously want to have them include Lowell in the that trade too? Because that is what it would take for them to move Youkilis back to 3B. I sure as hell don't, because I want to see what Fields is made of. You don't trade for arms while projecting them to the bullpen, especially if you're trading your closer. That's about the worst idea ever. At their best, they become setup men, and setup men can be found all over the majors. And you don't need more f***ing slap hitters, you just need more hitters and better athletes period. The day I see Eckstein, Castillo, and Theriot on this roster is the day I start to hate KW. Believe it or not, dude, homers score runs. Seeing as how he was in better shape this spring training this year than last year really supports this claim very well.
  13. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) Oh you're right, especially considering that Randy Johnson convinced us all over the past two years that he was capable of doing what he is this year. And El Duque. Someone would take the chance. Randy Johnson put up a K/9 of 7.5 in the 2nd best division in baseball last year, and he had a K/9 of just under 9 the previous season in the toughest division in baseball. Along with that, his peripherals have always been good, aside from the homer totals. Very solid control, very good WHIP, good BAA, and the K/9. Beyond even that, with how much concern there has been for his knee over the past 5 years or so, he's thrown 200+ innings 3 years in a row and 7 of the last 8. Jose Contreras's is pretty much the opposite in every single one of those aspects, and is possibly older to boot. El Duque was also making just $5 mill at the time of his trade, and he netted Jorge Julio, who is pretty much Mike MacDougal from this year painted Latino. He's not good. And it's very possible that might be all the Sox would be able to get value wise (which could mean like a journeyman 2Bman or a stopgap starting pitcher). Someone would take the chance, no doubt, but the Sox would have to include money and take a cut in what they get back. I've said already on this board that I'm completely down for that, because thats how bad I think Contreras will really be next year.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Well Reyes, Ramirez, and Sizemore are 3 talented individuals that could easily be the 3 hitters for their teams. Maybe not Reyes yet but your talking about some of the most talented guys in baseball. And no it doesnt take 2 hits neccesarily to score that 1 guy home. He can easily advance on a SB/passedball, a bunt, a double can score the runner home or a single and a sac fly... not 2 mention the HR that you rely on the middle of your order guys to produce. Its far from a bad thing if your leadoff hitter his 20 HR's, just its not a bad thing if he hits less either. The main goal for a hitter from the leadoff spot is to get on base for the people behind you. So as long as he is getting on base at a .350-.360% I could careless what the other stats are. Youkilis is different because he isnt your prototypical leadoff hitter anyways, he has the good OBP but he is also super slow so he cant always go from 1st to 3rd on a single etc. All I care for about my leadoff hitter is that he has some speed and he gets on base at a good clip. All I'm really saying is that there's a reason Jimmy Rollins is a top 5 (or so) leadoff hitter in the game, and that has everything to do with his slugging. And that over the years, you'll see that guys with higher slugging percentages and lower OBP will score just as many runs as those with lower slugging and higher OBP. In a leadoff hitter, OBP is the important stat, but if the leadoff hitter cannot steal bases at a good clip, and can't put up 30 doubles, 5 triples, and 5-10 homers, he's not the leadoff hitter on want on my team. Thus, I really have no use for Castillo or Eckstein at all.
  15. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) Unfortunately, Sox attendance will feel this impact as well. I'm interested in watching Fields because he is a legitimate prospect but Owens, Terrero, Mack. are nothing - not prospects and not good big leaguers. No reason to watch. I dunno, I hate to say it, but Terrero does seem kind of exciting.
  16. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Dukes is a piece of sh*t. The Sox should give up MacDougal for him. The reason is that he's still very young with HUGE upside - something this Sox team is very unfamiliar with. Either he'll stay a total loser and in that case the Sox won't be losing much. Or, maybe, his agent or someone will talk some sense into him and get him into counseling and get him to realize that he needs to make a lot of money and the only way is to become the best player that he can be and keep his nose out of trouble. If that happens the Sox win BIG ! It's worth a try. Things are desperate and ugly on the South Side as it is. First of all, you're not going to get a player with Dukes' talent for a reliever ever unless said player is in A ball. And there are easier ways of bringing in players with talent. Like rebuilding the team. One player will not make or change this team, and it is literally almost homer or nothing for him, seeing as how he has a BABIP of like .140.
  17. He has no power and he really can't walk. Kinda sounds like Bo Hart.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) I would say his numbers for the past 4 starts actually haven't been too shabby. Date OPP W L SV IP H ER BB SO May 26 OTT 1 0 0 6.0 7 2 1 5 May 31 LOU 1 0 0 6.1 7 4 2 6 Jun 05 @LOU 0 0 0 8.0 7 1 0 6 Jun 10 IND 1 0 0 7.0 5 1 3 8 6+ in each game, WHIP around 1.17, worst start gives up 4 runs, 5+ k's per game, etc. I think that's basically his numbers since recovering from that little blister issue he had a while back, IIRC. more encouraging is his 1.19 GO/AO, including a 2.44 GO/AO over his last 2. If he can keep that up, he'll be up.
  19. QUOTE(max power @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 01:34 AM) Anybody have a good read about terrero? What kind of prospect he was when he was younger, what he did with the other teams he was on, intangibly. He was the DBacks top prospect in 2002; does that help answer some questions?
  20. I don't think a court order could make the White Sox trade for Elijah Dukes.
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 11:53 PM) Verlander, Miller, and Porcello are gonna make one hell of a young trio... I hate the tigers more then anything right now. But hey, let me know when and if they win a world series anytime soon. At least I have something! Jeremy Bonderman isn't exactly knocking on retirement's door. In fact, he's actually just knocking on the door of age 25, and is only 4 months older than Verlander. Just kind of a neat bit of trivia.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) He is a leadoff hitter, all you care about is him getting on base for the guys behind him. I dont care what his SLG if he gets on base at a solid rate. You really need to get off the SLG and OPS stat, its how you judge the middle of the order guys but different people in the lineup have different responsibilities. No, SLG and OPS is just as important for leadoff hitters as it is middle of the order hitters. I want my leadoff hitter getting on base at a better clip, no doubt about that, but I also want him in scoring position. If a leadoff hitter gets a single, it's still going to take 2 and sometimes 3 hits to get him home, which is the exact same thing as the slowest man on the roster. Explain to me why Jimmy Rollins, what with his .335 OBP last year, was a better leadoff hitter and scored more runs than Kevin Youkilis and his .380 OBP. Or why Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, and Grady Sizemore are like the 3 best leadoff hitters in the game. Does it have anything to do with their slugging percentages being .480+? (that answer is yes, in case you were wondering) It seems that people think that a leadoff hitter that hits 20 homers is a bad thing.
  23. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) The 2 draft picks aren't certain. First of all, the Sox would have to offer arbitration and they might not. One reason would be that they don't want Dye back and are worried he'd accept. They second reason is that they may not want the picks because then they have to pay out signing bonuses. The Sox in the past haven't usually aggressively looked for extra picks, so I don't know that they will this season. I'll take JD back at $7 mill again next year. It's easily worth the risk.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) I believe the Sox acquired him from the Mariners earlier this year for cash considerations. I remember that, but never put the names together for whatever reason. That makes a ton of sense.
  25. god is Luis Castillo overrated here or what. He's the perfect example of how OBP is severely overrated on this board. He's got a career .370 OBP and has scored 100 runs in a season exactly once. And in that season, he stole 62 bases and got on at a .418 clip. For Minnesota last year, hitting in front of 2 of the best hitters in the league and 2 other very solid hitters, he scored 84 runs while getting on at a .358 clip in roughly 650 PAs. You think that had anything to do with his .370 SLG?
