  1. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Realistically, who have they developed on their own (draft to bigs) since Radke? Lohse came from the Cubs, Silva from Phillies. Bonser, Nathan, Liriano from SFG, Santana was "stolen" too. JD Durbin was a huge disaster, he was once their top pitching prospects. Balfour and Crain went down to season/career-ending injuries. They have Baker, Bonser, Garza, Slowey and Perkins, and they'll be quite lucky if 1-2 of those guys becomes a regular member of the rotation for 3-5 seasons. We have Danks, Masset, Gio, Russell, Floyd, Haeger, Phillips, Broadway and McCullough. I think it's VERY even between the two organizations in young pitching. bulls***, I hate this line of thinking. Silva and Nathan they didn't develop, but it seems to me that it's quite obvious that the Twins likely lack scouts in Latin America, so instead they see these players that other teams are signing and then target them in trades. Santana was a Rule 5 pick; had he stayed with Houston, do you think there's any chance in hell he's the pitcher he is today? Without tutoring from the minor league pitching coaches, do you think Liriano comes up and puts up an ERA of under 2? Kyle Lohse was traded when he was 20 years old in High A ball. The Twins developed those players just as the White Sox developed Neal Cotts and Jon Garland. Sure, they acquired them in trades, but they aren't the pitchers they are today without the White Sox minor league instructors. If Garland had stayed with the Cubs, it's quite possible they would have attempted to turn him into a power arm and that his arm would be dead by now. Aside from that, how about Juan Rincon? Eddie Guardado? JC Romero? Pat Neshek? LaTroy Hawkins? Those are 5 more that have come up and had great success. Jacque Jones, Corey Koskie, Cristian Guzman, Matthew LeCroy, Doug Mientkiewicz, and AJ Pierzynski all came up together through the Twins system, and all have played important roles on teams - usually starting - with the exceptions of Koskie, due to a concussion, Guzman, due to a shoulder (but he's back and starting), and Matthew LeCroy. Can the White Sox top that? And that's not including Punto, Bartlett, David Ortiz, Mohr, Ford, Kielty, Kubel, Mays, etc. The Twins, by and far, have superior developmental and scouting systems than do the White Sox. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Can we all remember that after the Twins won the World Series in 1991 they sucked for over a decade? They won 90 games in 1992, but after 1992, the Twins again fell into an extended slump, posting a losing record each year for the next eight years: 71-91 in 1993, 50-63 in 1994, 56-68 in 1995, 78-84 in 1996, 68-94 in 1997, 70-92 in 1998, 63-97 in 1999 and 69-93 in 2000. Also, BTW, when you suck you get better draft picks. We stayed competitive in the 90s The last time the White Sox finished in last place was around like 88 I think, so that's basically 20 years or solid baseball.
  2. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) That's partially true. I watched that listless team 2nd half last year and a good part of this year and you will never convince me that team chemistry is not an essential part of it. winning cures everything The pitching sucked, the top of the order sucked, the bottom of the order sucked, and when you only have 5 guys producing, your offense is going to suck. There probably wasn't chemistry, but it was because guys were pissed at Podsednik for staring at strike 3 all damn game.
  3. Owens should hit the weight room regardless of whether it takes a little of his speed with him, I think he's thinner than Juan Pierre. And, according to weights and heights, I might be right. Yahoo has Pierre listed at 5'11, 180 opposed to Owens at 6'3 190. 4 inches should be more than 10 pounds.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) I disagree in regards to Buehrle. I just think the similarities to Zito have priced him out of what is reasonable and acceptable to pay a starting pitcher (at least one not named Johan). But Garland you might be able to get to before he gets to the crazy numbers like that. If I were Kenny, I would seriously consider approaching him with a 3/36 or maybe even a 3/39 which goes into effect in the 09' season (if that is allowed under CB rules? If not, which wipes out his third year next year of his current deal). Buehrle's agent isn't Boras; that means the world in these negotiations. Zito got 7/$126 because of Boras; I think Buehrle will "settle" for somewhere around 5/$80 or 6/$100, and I quite honestly would do either of those in a second because you know Buehrle is going to stay healthy over the course of his career, though he may be inconsistent. And quite frankly, if he has a half a season like he did in 2006 every 3 years, so be it; you deal with a s***ty half of baseball and hope he can be great for the other 9-11 halves. Garland I agree on, but he signed a 3 year extension prior to 2006, and his next contract will be atleast 5 years in length. So, following this season, you try and negotiate that contract. Pretty simple.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) I don't get it....so many of the people down on Fields probably think Sweeney is going to be a star. I think it's the other way around. Fields has a very high ceiling, and he brings more athleticism to this team. If there is one prospect in the minors I don't want the Sox to trade, it's Fields. There are two people I've heard make such statements: you and Kenny Williams. It's interesting really, and probably true. He actually didn't say it like that, but simply said Fields has all-star potential. He said the same thing about Chris Young, and then traded him for Vazquez (or maybe traded him and then said he had all-star potential, I dont know, it's all semantics anyways). I've been getting the vibe over about the past 9 months that the team didn't move him to LF in order to have him keep or improve his defense at 3B because they knew they were going to trade Crede. I really think that's what's going to happen, and I have for a while. I also don't doubt the star potential Fields brings to the table either; dude's got stellar power, and if he can start making more consistent contact, I could see him turning into a 30+ homer a year guy.
  6. QUOTE(max power @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 06:03 AM) There's nothing quite like pinching a loaf in the deep fryer, let me tell you. Oh no, you're not telling me, you're simply in agreement with me.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 01:00 AM) You're from South Dakota(or maybe North), so you don't count either. it's all the same thing anyways
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) I was out at my uncle's farm. My aunt and uncle had been drinking. So says my aunt, she says "Alex! We're getting you s***faced tonight!" She made me a bunch of screwdrivers. Nothing quite beats getting really s*** faced with relatives. Honestly, I'm not lying here.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) A choker like him would be a perfect fit. He could have been clutch and the Yankees still wouldn't have made it to the World Series in any of his years with New York. That choker/non-clutch s*** with ARod is really disturbing. I don't give a s***, the dude can choke all he wants to, he's still a .280 30 100 .900 player in his worst years, and then when he has good years, he's a .320 50 130 player.
  10. As if they're not told what to do in football and basketball.
  11. Roger Clemens' last 3 starts against the White Sox Date IP H R ER BB SO HR 10-22-05 2 4 3 3 0 1 1 08-26-03 4.2 7 9 9 4 5 4 09-14-02 5 7 7 5 2 6 2 For totals... ERA: 13.11 WHIP: 2.06 HR/9: 5.4 BB/9: 4.6 IP: 11.2 From an egotisitical standpoint, there was no way that he could risk getting lit up in his return with the Yankees, regardless of how s***-acular the Sox are playing right now. Which really sucks, because I really think the Sox would have lit the s*** out of him.
  12. Byrnes and Rowand will be on the south side, along with Eckstein and Erstad. Add to it that Tomas Perez will be the utility infielder, and Timo will be the pinch hit extraordinaire, and the team will be set. Those 6 alone will provide domination.
  13. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) The ultimate goal is top quartile in winning pct. and 3rd quartile in payroll, which is what the Twins, A's and Marlins (once) pulled off Uh, why? Profit wise, sure. That's business; that's not baseball. Winning percentage is all that matters when it comes to that. I mean, quite frankly, I don't think the Yankees care that they spent the most money in baseball for like the last 10 years, and they haven't missed the playoffs yet. Why does where your payroll is matter? The only thing you want to avoid is a high payroll and a losing team, which is what looks like is going to happen this year.
  14. so basically Schnur and Cunningham
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Kenny has had almost no part in the drafts the last few years, so good try. As for Crede, who knows what the hell we would have got for him if we traded for him, and Fields would be sucking majorly at the plate right now as well, not to mention playing average at best defense at third. This is pretty much the most misunderstood point of the entire argument. It seemed in the offseason that about the best the Sox were going to get for Crede was Figgins. Is Figgins for Crede a good trade for the Sox on any level? Maybe adding more speed, but simply calling up Jerry Owens has done that, and Figgins has absolutely sucked this year. Fields would have sucked just as hard as Crede did in April. There was no move that really would have helped the Sox at all by trading Crede, and trading him could have severely bitten them in the ass because he had been progressing very nicely over the last 4 years, he's in his prime and he's getting ready to head into a contract year. Everything really has just gone wrong this year. The bullpen, which many of us thought was going to be a strength, has been absolutely putrid with the exception of like Thornton, Logan, and Jenks (and consider Logan's a LOOGY thanks to Ozzie). The offense has been god awful, and it was considered by far the biggest strength coming into the season. The starting pitching has been about as expected, and that's slightly above average. If it can keep that up all year, the Sox will have a chance if the offense ever comes around and the bullpen starts pitching better.
  16. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) Where does anyone get the eye they would trade either Cain or Lincecum for ANYONE? xbox
  17. Cubs fans are absolutely ridiculous. Throwing trash on the field is about the stupidest thing you can do as an audience, and it makes you look like idiots. Way to live up to the stereotype Cubs fans.
  18. QUOTE(max power @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:24 AM) I f***ing hate it when ozzie or anyone calls certain people a "kid." I don't give a s*** how old you are, ozzie or especially some people here, have never had and will never have the talent of some of these so called "kids" atta kid
  19. triple decker. pecker wrecker.
  20. Timo Perez the rest is irrelevant
  21. there are worse life choices one can make. Like smoking crack. That's worse than Dusty. But really, I can't think of much else.
  22. Wilson with a homer for Charlotte. It would be nice to have his bat on the MLB team, really would. And Schnurstein with his 41st XBH of the year. I have to imagine he'll move up this month.
