  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) Leitch posted it on Deadspin today, it's quite entertaining. It's pretty much what you'd expect from . . . well pretty much anyone who goes to the U. Haha, yeah that's where I found it. And I cannot further describe it other than if you do wish to listen to it, don't take it seriously.
  2. for anyone who cares and hasn't heard the song, there is a link for the 7th Floor Crew on the internet. It's kind of funny, but it's pretty much ridiculously offensive too especially if you do not take the material they rap about in a joking matter. anyways, I felt it was best not to post it, but I can PM you the link if you want to listen to it.
  3. no, he's not keeping the ball on the ground yet, and that's the problem. 4 homers in 25 innings and a 0.79 GO/AO means he's allowing more flyballs than groundballs and that it's a problem. Just as a crude number, it's probably around 22 ground balls and 28 flyballs; translated very roughly over the course of the year, that's 130 ground balls to 170 flyballs. He's also on pace to give up like 36 homers in 150 innings, or 48 over 200. Basically, that GO/AO needs to come up before he can even be considered anything other than a AAA pitcher. Overall though, it seems he and Broadway are the best looking prospects in Charlotte's rotation right now, which isn't really saying much because of how mediocre Broadway projects to the majors and how hit or miss Floyd still is.
  4. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) and it doesn't look like it's going to get better anytime soon. I'm predicting a 2-4 trip to the west coast. So do you mean 1-4 or 2-3? It's an 8 game roadie, but 5 on the west coast.
  5. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) I love how a demotion to AAA to get him AB's has fans thinking the sox are giving up on a #1 draft choice. I just tend to think that he's in Ozzie's doghouse beyond the point of return, so either Ozzie goes or Brian goes, and Ozzie's not going anywhere.
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) I didn't see that on Rotoworld. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/features/...articleid=28151 Check AL Quick Hits
  7. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) I just think it's going to be too much money and too many years. Reinsdorf doesn't like to go more than three years for pitchers and if Buehrle's agent is worth anything he'll be asking for something comparable to the seven years that Zito got. I think Reinsdorf may be more sentimental than people realize and would stretch his principles a little bit to re-ink Mark but there's just too big of a gap between three years and six years. The shame in all this is that Mark's value was at an all time low in the offseason and something like four years at $13 might've gotten things done but Kenny had a huge chip on his shoulder about the exploding free agent market. Now, assuming Buehrle puts up his typical year, if we're going to match another team's offer I think we're going to need to come up with more like six years at $15 or 16 million and I can't see that happening. Buehrle was never going to accept 4 years at any point in time. If Gil Meche can get 5 years for being mediocre as hell, and Jason Marquis can get $7 mill a year over 3 years for being the worst starting pitcher in the NL last year, I'm sure Buehrle was and never has been willing to accept anything less than 5/$65, and that will be if he's mediocre as hell this year. Buehrle's agent isn't quite Scott Boras - though I don't recall who it is off the top of my head - but I imagine he is easily going to get 5/$75, and he could even be looking at 5/$90 or 6/$100 or something in the neighborhood. I can see the Sox going 5 years for Buehrle with a couple options attached to the end just because he is an exception, but they'll be speculative of even that due to his 2nd half in 2006, so if they are, they are going to want to include a way of getting out of the deal after 3 years if anything at all happens to Buehrle. Whether Buehrle is cool with that or not is completely up to him.
  8. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 02:16 AM) When you say someone is an "automatic out" you are not referring to someone who has gotten out on the bases. You are talking about how they do when they bat. Such as the pitcher is an " automatic out" . Even you know that much. I think you just like to mess with me. LOL, of course I do. I am talking about base paths in general. If you ground out, you get out at 1B; if you pop out, same thing; if you strike out, same thing; if you ground into a fielder's choice, the runner already on base gets out so you are producing an out. Thus, how often you get on base, rather than how many hits you get, determines how much of an automatic out you are. If you want to argue that a guy is not an automatic out because of his average, that would mean that Barry Bonds is more of an automatic out than Placido Polanco. You couldn't possibly agree with that line of thought, could you?
  9. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:54 AM) Apparently you weren't paying attention again to what you said this time. You said the CF is an automatic out. That refers to batting average. An out means you don't get a hit . A hit increases your batting average, an out decreases your batting average. Baseball 101 Mr. "You Know more about baeball than me" . All I said is that everyone is is more of an automatic out than the CF which is true. An out generally means someone has gotten out on the bases, not that you didn't get a hit. You can walk and not make an out. So no, not everyone is more of an automatic out than the CF because the CF makes outs at about a 68% clip.
  10. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) I bet you're one of those guys who was calling Jermaine Dye "dead" when he got off to the slow start the year the Sox acquired him. I'd bet my bottom dollar you're no older then 22. You can't see the forest for the trees. Its easy to defend Erstad because he was injured. The Sox signed him because he was healthy. Odds were he'd be rusty. If he's healthy and produces you'll be fine ??? Well I was really worried about you . Thank God you'll be fine ! And pray tell if he is healthy and produces why wouldn't you like him ? Because he made you look like a fool perhaps ? The Sox needed an upgrade in CF and got one . They improved the team. No one is saying he's great or is an All star so don't even try to make it seem like I said those things. What I said is its a long season (meaning theres still a chance that he will get injured or be a non productive player) and as of this moment he's the least of the teams worries. So basically its time to STFU and root for your team and learn to see more than whats in front of your nose. Hopefully you learn a little patience before you start producing offspring. I think I'm gonna have 10 kids and tell them all to hate Darin Erstad
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 11:51 PM) I don't know what you're talking about. I liked him because he was a suffer, smoked pot, and had blonde hair. You're crazy............ that's really why you like me?
  12. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) It's also easier to cheer for the Rowands/Reeds of the world, the underdogs, the players that might not be as physically gifted but who get everything possible out of their talent...than the first-round draft picks who have all the ability in the world but never put it together, for a multitude of reasons. Reed was a 2nd round pick, so let's not act like he was a nothing who just worked his ass off to get where he is. Obviously he had to work hard, but there's talent there too, especially if he was one of the top 60 players in the country drafted when he was.
  13. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) I can just see it now, if Terrero plays against all lefties after BA hardly got to play at all...that will be funny. I almost wish Ozzie would do it, just because it would outrage soxtalk and wsi so much. the success of the Sox be damned?
  14. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) How is Guillen about to leave Chicago? He will be here AT LEAST through the 2008 season, if not longer. Manuel had a 3 year window after the 2000 season, Ozzie will have a 4-5 year window after winning the World Series and the fact that JR is so loyal to former Sox players and employees. Who do you want to replace him that's going to lead this over the hill line-up into the World Series? If you want to criticize someone, it should be Walker...how many White Sox hitters have become better under his tutelage? Crede has produced for 3 years? Make it one and one-half and we'll have a deal. it's a typo, I meant to say Ozzie's not about to leave Chicago
  15. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) well heres the thing dude rowand isnt going to be playing for the 2007 chicago white sox and darin erstad is so i guess you are just going to have to deal with it. instead of complaining about darin erstad maybe you should start complaining about AJ hitting .213 konerko hitting under .200 or the fact that erstad has as many homeruns right now as joe crede. erstad is the least of the sox concerns at this point and maybe ozzie actually does know the difference between a major league hitter (ie. erstad) and one that isnt quite ready yet to be an everyday starter (ie. anderson) I'll deal with it because I have to. It's not going to stop me from b****ing up a storm. I haven't complained about Pierzynski, Konerko, and Crede because they've produced very well within the past 3 years. Erstad's put up an OPS around .700 over his past 1400 PAs; how is that good? QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) and maybe the white sox organization has already determined that anderson is not the future CF for the white sox right or wrong maybe 400 ABs was all they needed to make that decision If they could determine that he is or isn't a major league hitter based off of 400 ABs, then I'll s*** bricks of gold that smell like roses. There's quite obviously a rift between Brian Anderson and Ozzie Guillen, and it's likely that it will never be healed. Ozzie is not about to leave Chicago, so I see no way Anderson will start.
  16. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) just curious, what does erstad have to do this year for you to admit that this white sox team is a better team this year with him in there as opposed to anderson? seriously, id like to know because it seems like you are always knocking darin even after he has shown signs of being a real contributor to this team, and he already has contributed more offensively to the team this year in a month then anderson did all of last year The team is better with Erstad this year. My problem is that he's on the wrong side of 30, he's had injuries in the past, and he doesn't give the White Sox any sense of stability in CF for the future. Atleast with Anderson, if you get him 1000 career ABs in the majors - which is a full season's worth of playing time this year - you can see if he is the future or not. With Erstad you already know he is not the future in CF. Beyond that, if the Sox are going to bring in an older CFer like that and have them start, I'd atleast like them to be better than a .725 OPS player at his best. Had the Sox brought in even Rowand, I would have been satisfied because he is going to put up a .700-.725 OPS at his worst with the potential to put up an OPS in the .800-.850 range. I didn't want it done at the time, but that's because I thought Anderson was going to get a fair shake in CF. Now that I know he never had a chance, I would have preferred Rowand, and that I know for sure.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) Garland for that package would've been brutal. Sox fans think they hate Podsednik? Taveras is worse than Pods at his worse. Garland >> Hirsh. Taveras plays defense and has a good arm though. Add to it he has youth on his side along with good, pure speed, along with a groin that is actually in good shape, and I'll take Taveras over Podsednik.
  18. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) Wite, I was going to go through with it, but it was going to fall on deaf ears. Since when has the number of hits and stolen bases been the best indicator of who is the best offensive player on the team is? Erstad hasn't stolen a base in a week, and this team isn't stealing bases anyways. Now how is it 3 weeks is too early to evaluate a player yet apparently 1 month is an acceptable amount of time (over a 6 month season) is enough to tell people to eat crow? I don't recall anyone saying Brain was never going to be sent down during the season. Duh, because the more hits and stolen bases you get, the bigger grinder you are, and if you're a grinder, you're damn good. Don't consider extra base hits or walks, because those aren't very grindy. I'm just surprised that Dye comparisons aren't coming up more, seeing as how the two are such similar ballplayers. I think everybody arguing about this is wasting time. However, it atleast provides more entertainment than talking about how horrible the team has been offensively thus far. So I keep doing it basically for that.
  19. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) I guess this thread is no longer needed since Anderson is no longer. Its amazing to me that people were so quick to write off a player who once had 240 hits in a season , has won 2 gold gloves at 2 positions , was coming off a season with an injury and few at bats , and a guy whose ex teammates praised constantly for his leadership and approach to the game. Albert Belle was still playing when Erstad had 240 hits. Seeing as how the second most hits he's ever had in a season is 177, I think it's safe to assume that 240 was a career year and he'll never come close to that again. And, part of the reason people are so critical of Erstad is because he IS coming off seasons of multiple injuries. How can you use that to defend him? I still figure he's bound to get injured, but if he can be healthy and produce, I'll be fine. I still won't like him, but I'll be fine. Sweet, a .260 average. Let's send his ass to the All-Star game. Erstad having the highest average on this team is the exact same thing as being the tallest midget. He has sucked, as have like 7 others in the normal lineup. LOL, have you ever listened to yourself before? I mean, it's horrible for people to say the guy sucks because he's hitting .260 on April 29th, but it's perfectly acceptable to say the guy is great because he's hitting .260 on April 29th? I don't think there are any foots going in any mouths yet.
  20. First of all, does Ozzie really even know what the hell he thinks? He THINKS that they still THINK he can play everyday in the majors. I would ask him what he actually thinks, but I already know. Secondly, that's some great deep thinking there Ozzie. He can either play everyday in the big leagues, or he can be a backup player in the big leagues. As far as the big leagues are concerned, there really aren't many other roles a player can take on. and atleast he finally got sent down. He needs everyday playing time, and sitting on his ass isn't going to do anything at all.
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) The same things were said about Michael Turner, and all he has done is dominate as a backup at San Diego and garner interest from multiple teams to be their top back... I mean, really, what difference do 60 pounds and 3 inches make?
  22. If this team doesn't go undefeated, I don't think a team will ever get truly close to going undefeated ever again. They probably have the best organization talent wise in the league by far.
  23. It appears atleast someone is seeing what I'm seeing.
  24. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:51 AM) Thome was available to pinch hit on Wed. No, that's you making stuff up. If he were, he would have.
