  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:21 AM) Not for the difference in salary. Talk to me in 2 years when Beltre's hitting 35 plus and Crede's putting up mediocre numbers for Anaheim. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:26 AM) Who cares if all these guys are better than Crede? How many of these dudes dominated an entire postseason the way Crede did in 2005? How many of these guys have come through in the clutch like Crede? From Septemeber of '05 through Septemer of '06; there wasn't a better 3-bagger in baseball than Mr. Crede. I'm not sure anyone dominanted an entire postseason like Crede did. I'm still not sure where the Sox are at without Contreras or Buehrle or Garland or Garcia or Podsednik or Konerko or Dye or Pierzynski...get the point? and BTW, ARod says hi, just as an example
  2. atleast you didnt puke in a toilet nasty things, they are
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) who else is there? Fields is the only real one in AAA, and you could maybe count Sweeney. Not really anyone at Birmingham. And same for Winstom. But Chris Carter does have some serious potential. Dude, Sweeney has like 30 homer potential in his prime. He's good; he's not the premier prospect in the White Sox system. Of any White Sox prospect, he's the most likely for success, but that just means he'll be a good #2 hitter, maybe an adequate to good #3; that's not huge numbers, nor huge power numbers like Carter may be able to put up. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) LaPorta might have been a top 5 pick two years ago if he was eligible. He slipped to the 5th(?) round last year because of a poor season (Dan mentions the Boras factor, but I think his fall was more over concerns about his contact rate), but he still might have the best power potential in the draft. 14th round and 14th round Cubs drafted him out of high school, and the Red Sox after his Junior year. Didn't have a great year last year - .259/.410/.538/.948 - but he missed 27 games due to injury. This year, he's been great: .428/.579/.848/1.427. He's definitely 1st round worthy, and if the Sox can get him at 25, and they don't pick him up, I'm may be slightly upset, especially if the don't grab a pitcher with high upside.
  4. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) Wright gone, will announce in the next day or so. Good luck to him. You said it yourself, Wright's a top 5 pick. I see reason for him to go regardless, seeing as how he'll undoubtedly be a top 10 pick, but with the potential to be a top 5 and the likelyhood he'll help a team out next year, I'm not sure why he wouldn't have gone. And I still see UNC as the preseason #1 next year.
  5. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 12:17 AM) Tyrus that was the game, regardless of score. such a huge swing in momentum. I haven't posted in this thread, but I said that was the game. Obviously it was close, but I told Willie that exact same thing, and it turned out that way. I was probably a little lucky, but that was such a huge turning point of the game it wasn't even funny. A 4 point swing? with 2 blocks involved by the player that MADE it a 4 point swing? Yeah, I'm not sure the game turns out the same. As a non-NBA fan, Tyrus Thomas is gonna be f***ing good; he already is. Obviously he's going to get better. He's not the type you'll build a franchise around, like even perhaps Lamarcus Aldridge. However he's not a roleplayer; he's the type of player that's necessary for a Chamionship team.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) In some cases. Cotts got obnoxious with the girls at the park. Garland's fangirls get on my nerves, although I don't really want him gone. I'd have pulled a Harris if I'd have been here when Credepoppedup (assuming people crushed for him, which I'm sure they did). Anderson drives me mad. Well a couple things. In 2005, Cotts was unhittable. In 2006, he was a human torch, because everyone and their mothers hit him. So did you want him gone in 2005 or 2006? Secondly, right now, I love Aardsma. (roughly) A thousand on this site do too. Do you want him gone? He's been mediocre as hell over his past 6 months, but people love him because he's been one of the best, if not THE best, reliever in baseball since the start of the season. Gone, or no? And if not Anderson, who? Mr. .169 Erstad? Don't forget how many questioned that decision. I figure had Anderson been starting, not only would Podsednik not have one bounce off his head, but the Sox wouldn't have a guy hitting sub-.170 in the lineup. Is that agreeable at all or not?
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:22 AM) Mike Jones sucked balls. Showed up a half hour late and ended five minutes early. I'm going to bed. read about 50 posts up told you so

  9. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) And the 2nd half of last season Anderson was 0 on Dial's scale, implying he neither saved nor cost runs in the field. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but Erstad was better than that when he won his GG in CF. Obviously, he's not necessarily the player he was then. Wouldn't it be hard to play CF on an every other game basis (if that)? People talk about control and hitting and what not else - completely regardless of rookie, unadjusted status, would it not be hard to get reads on flyballs if you're playing every other day? I have to figure it would. meh.. 15 games into the season Brian Anderson (2006) - .164/.254/.309/.563 Darin Erstad (2007) - .185/.250/.241/.491 They have both been inexcuseably s***ty. Given...Erstad putting 72 points difference in OPS, and worse in every category except average (which, in case you were wondering, means a single is the same as a walk), is kinda scary, seeing as how Anderson was a rookie last year and Erstad is a 12 year veteran. I really don't like Erstad starting in CF, in case you hadn't gotten that jive yet.

one amazing show, sometimes underappreciated yeah that was for greasy
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) You want to talk about a joke of a no hitter, lets start talking about the one Josh Beckett pitched a couple years back. And even that was still a no hitter (an amazing feat). Heck there is a bit of fluke to every no hitter, unless of course your Mr. No Hitter (Nolan Ryan). You're referring to Burnett's right, when he walked 9 guys? http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2001/B05120SDN2001.htm
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) McCarthy a gem? Ha! It's things like that that made me want him gone in the first place and now that he is I'm happy to see him drag down a team not mine. So you want people gone that people have infatuations with?
  13. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) So what do you guys know about him? Seems to me a good decesion to go after a Konerko-Thome replacement now, so as to develop him and be ready when their contracts are up. Huge power. I recall seeing him play one time and he looked good. He also knows how to get on base. http://www.gatorzone.com/baseball/stats.php Can't miss him.

    I think he's from Texas
  15. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) I don't agree with that. Bobby would be successful throwing 94-95 and being able to locate a mid-80's hook. Maybe not dominant, but still pretty good. He's getting hit now because he can't locate his offspeed stuff and the opposition are sitting on a hittable mid-90s fastball, not because he isn't throwing 99-100. He was being sarcastic as hell

  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) He's obviously just lost it. Gave up a soft single on a 1-2 count to blow a save in a place where we are so awesome normally like Oakland, a mere 6 for 7 overall in saves, struck out Sheffield with a man on 3rd 2 outs last night.....get rid of him. If he can't hit 100 every pitch, he can't get people out. Ok, back to reality. This is now the 2nd straight year everybody panicked about Bobby coming out of spring traning due to velocity. When he saves 40 plus again this year, will anybody besides me and a few others around here trust him coming out of camp next year, or must he throw 100 every pitch? I still want to see how he handles the workload over the entire year. That is what killed his numbers on the year last year. A 5.72 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, BB/9 of 5.7 in the second half will not breed confidence.
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) McCarthy has mediocre stuff for a righty. Danks has very good stuff for a lefty. I don't know that you can say McCarthy has mediocre stuff. A 91-94 fastball - albeit straight as hell - along with a good curve and change. When located, he's a great pitcher, but that's the entire problem is that he gets his pitches up a lot. If he can add a cutter or a 2-seamer, he'll be in the league for a while as a solid starter.
  20. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) Well, they still need a CF, and they could plug either Hermida or Borchard in CF. They'd lose a bit of defense if they did that though. De Aza's been fine for them, though he is on the DL.
  21. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:00 AM) The point is, I'm sure Beltre isn't even on the Sox minds--his huge contract and probable roid use are just two reasons. The sox have Fields for 3b. and he's still better than Crede.
  22. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 12:28 AM) Wait a minute? You mean Ozzie isn't the only manager in the history of baseball that makes questionable decisions? Is Joe Torre an idiot now? Should he be fired? Couldn't any wannabe from a message board win with a 2 trillion dollar payroll? to be entirely fair to Torre, Rivera's had a few 1+ inning saves in his day. Probably around 50-60. That being said, yeah, Joe Torre should have pretty much been fired after the Crisp AB.
  23. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) We already blew three games, we needed to steal one. If we can beat the 1.80 ERA of Robertson tomm, I might start thinking its our year after 16 games QUOTE(NUKE @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 02:18 AM) EAT s*** KITTIES!!!!!!!!!! GREAT TO BE BACK ON THE WINNING SIDE OF THE LEDGER!!!!!!!!!! DANKS WAS ON IT TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!! PEN IS ALL OVER IT YET AGAIN!!!!!!!!! GREAT WIN ALL AROUND FOR THE GOOD GUYS!!!!!!!! GIMMIE A HELL YEAH!!!!!! I knew PHT was missing something.
