Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
It makes sense to see what the sox can get for Carlos. If no offers are near his value, they should just hold onto him. Viciedo is more likely traded as he doesn't have a spot with the sox. The sox don't have a viable replacement for Q and I don't know how many teams would give fair value for Carlos. Dayan more likely would see more offers that could give the sox a decent package. Garza is worth more than Carlos. I could see Tampa doing more of a Ben Zobrist for Quentin deal than Garza for Q. Both Zobrist and Q have questions and making similar money. But Zobrist is on a long term deal now.

Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
I have no problem shopping Q. The sox need above avg. defense in RF, pref. a lefty bat. I'd go with a young guy with upside, Teahen as backup plan. Josh Reddick from Boston, or Kalish.

Bullpen '11
I guess if you go by what bullpen names have been linked to being available [i haven't heard Soria anywhere, but he'd give the sox a nice, varied selection of arms--looking back at the 2010 trade deadline, the Yanks supposedly offered top prospect C Jesus Montero for him], some names jump out: FLA, Leo Nunez: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Kansas-...-Marlins-120810 LAD, Jonathan Broxton: http://scott-miller.blogs.cbssports.com/mc...270335/26282297

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Let's be honest though, Dayan Viciedo could benefit a lot from 1 more full season in AAA, especially if he's getting at bats every day and playing a position in the field every day. The problem comes if you have to sign Konerko and Dunn for 3-4 years each; Dayan Viciedo does not need to sit in AAA for 3 years waiting on them. I'd say Morel's more of a long term answer at 3b than a short term answer. He may well struggle at it next year, but he really does belong there. That's why Dayan's value is pretty good for a NL team, which is like AAA anyway . The sox don't have to trade Dayan and shouldn't if it's not a good value. But a lot of teams with low payroll may be looking for a potentially impact bat like his. I think Morel could be a long term guy at 3B. Yet he may struggle next year--at least hitting. The sox will stick with him if his glove work is good. Yet with Viciedo, his struggles in the field would limit his AB's with the sox.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
If Konerko does re-sign, then Viciedo should be traded. Morel seems like a good short term answer at 3b--Omar and Teahen if Morel gets hurt/ starts poorly[good glove, decent RH bat, not much power but don't need it with Dunn, Pk et al] Dayan is the 4th option at 3b. He's got value that would be wasted in AAA or the bench after he showed decent AB's in the bigs in Sept. The next thing would be to re-sign Putz.

Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) if we sign konerko maybe a viciedo for bell swap? That was my first thought with Gonzalez traded.
-
Merry Christmas Sox Fans?!?!
The bullpen addition should be Putz-provided he's healthy. Other teams might be leery of his injury concerns. Putz also respected how the sox handled him coming back from his injury by not overusing him as a 1 year rental. That should carry some weight all things being equal.
-
Rockies Interested in Floyd?
Fowler would be a nice pick up. The Rockies had him skip AAA in 2009 and he hit .266 with a .363 OBP in the bigs. 2010 showed a slight regression but he's still only 24. Stewart I'm not quite as sold on. Floyd makes a ton of sense for the Rockies. I guess if the sox found the right pieces besides Fowler, I'd be for trading Gavin.

If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) Berkman turned down the trade here, but was very gracious about saying that it was because he wanted to go with Pettite. I just wonder how much he has left. Outside of 2010, Berkman has had very solid numbers across the board--offensively and defensively. I know Paulie had a near career year at age 34. And Lance battled through injuries at 34. He's been pretty healthy. But if Paulie gets $12+ mill. per for 2 years I'd pass if I were the Sox. Berkman's question marks may net him 1/2 of what Paulie will probably get. And the Sox could slide Berkman over to DH as well.

If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
One name that hasn't been thrown around is Lance Berkman. Though he vetoed a trade to come here, he supposedly wanted to play with Petitte. In watching a rerun of "The club", Jake Peavy was in contact with Berkman about coming here. That could factor in if the sox don't sign PK and Berkman is looking for work. He's the same age as Konerko, and should get less than Paulie after a down 2010. Yet he plays better defense and hits very well off RHP hitting LH [his splits vs. LHP are bad].

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Adam Dunn 648 plate appearances 38 homers 103 RBI .260 BA .356 OBP .892 OPS--worth $11 million to $15 million a year Carlos Quentin 527 plate appearances 26 homers 87 RBI .243 BA .342 OBP .821 OPS----worthless? I don't think so. Quentin is another guy Sox fans will realize is better than they think if he goes away. I agree. Quentin would be a good option for teams who can't afford Werth, Crawford or Dunn. Q is one of the few guys who could be a middle order of the bat, at a reasonable price for the next two years.

John Danks trade ideas
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 23, 2010 -> 06:14 AM) I'd hold onto Danks. If you have to trade a starter, try to get somebody to overpay for Buehrle. My one beef about Kenny is we never get ANYBODY to overpay in a trade IMO at least. The Yanks prob. would if Mark would waive his NTC.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
Before people get all crazy, I'm not necessarily saying Cle. would or should do a Grady for Q swap. I'm saying to get Q out--who does have some value, even with his sub par defense-And a push for a guy like Grady in. No teams would trade for Sizemore for what his 2008 value would be. He's had 2 bad, injury filled seasons in a row. Yet Kenny is one GM who would likely give Cle. the closest value to that 2008 season as any. Right now, Cle. needs to get the most talent they can. It may mean waiting to see if Sizemore ups his value and deal him at the deadline. Or they may try and get something of value now, before his value drops further. Who knows what Cle. is asking for or if they even are. Carlos does have some trade value, though. He's not that expensive and has two more years in arb. left. He could dominate in the NL. He could make sense for many low budget teams that need a big bat for either LF or RF. I'd say keep Q as DH but his mind set doesn't seem a good fit for only hitting.

Grady Sizemore would also be a Lefty bat that could be on the block. Whether they'd trade him to the sox, who knows. They'll more likely compete with the Royals for last than fight for 1st in 2011 so it's not like they're competing with the Sox. They need to shed salary and get more talent. With his knee injury, though, the Indians would be selling very low. His contract is reasonable if healthy [2011:$7.5M, 12:$8.5M club option ($0.5M buyout)]. Hell, a swap of Quentin for Sizemore could even be in the Indians interest, as they'd control Carlos through 2012. They could likely get more power production, at a cheaper salary, with Carlos in LF for them.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) He gets really expensive here pretty quickly http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3229965 Right. He'd be like the lefty version of Rios, though, solid all around. I don't like the 2013 option though.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
The Sox should see what the Yanks would want for Curtis Granderson. He disappointed them this year, though he did well in the playoffs. And the Yanks have no problem cutting bait on players who don't have immediate success. His LH power, with good defense, would be a nice fit.
-
Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
Kenny already traded his best young prospect SP in Hudson. I don't see how the Sox trade John Danks and improve for 2011 and beyond unless some team wildly overpays--such as a young LH bat and a SP who could fit in the 2011 rotation. But I don't see many teams that could offer that deal.

Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 04:53 AM) I'm of the opinion that Sale's mechanics are so bad he's going to blow out his arm no matter what, you're delaying it by putting him in the bullpen. Personally, I'd stick him in the minors,(starting) let him rack up gaudy numbers, and trade him in the 2011-2012 offseason for a massive piece, and watch him blow out his arm the following season. If the Sox are going to keep him, their best choice is to make him a closer, because when he gets to his arbitration years, he'll blow his arm out then, thus keeping the cost of him being on the roster down. If you're going to trade Danks, you have to get a MLB ready starter back, and he is the one who replaces Danks in the rotation, not Sale. Nice post. I wouldn't put Sale into the rotation for 2011. I like him in the bullpen, along with re-signing Putz to close, and Thornton, Santos, Infante. The sox could use another solid option with letting Jenks go. Danks should be the workhorse to replace Mark. A guy to build around not trade. The sox should give him similar cash that Mark is getting after 2011. Like you said, Sale in the 2011-12 offseason could be trade bait with his questions about being a SP [durability, 3 + pitches, etc]. Viciedo should be part of package to net the sox that LH young OF bat. His defense at 1b is even a liability. Yet overall, he's got good value. The sox just can't give away runs with poor defense. And the sox have 2 DH's in Dayan and Quentin. I wouldn't be surprised if both are gone, esp. if Paulie re signs.

Konerko to address free agency before TH game
I'm of the mind that the Sox should offer PK arb, which he won't accept. He'll likely get a 2, 3 yr deal near $13, 14 mill a year from another team.

Relax People
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) The White Sox weren't as good as they were when they went 25-5, and the Twins aren't as good as they are now that they're on a 17-4 streak. Exactly. The Sox need to ride this one out and start winning games. The Twins will come back down at some point.

Carlos Delgado
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) I heard on Mulley and Hanley this morning that Delgado not only wants to play for a contending team, but he wants guaranteed playing time too. He'd be lucky to play for a team that's out of it, let alone a contender. He's got to show he can hit in the minors and is ready before a team will or should commit to him.

Waiver Wire Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:14 AM) Figgins, Ibanez and Matsui are all getting a lot of mentions. Perhaps the most interesting "new" name is Nate McLouth...wonder if KW would try for him? None of those guys make sense right now. Ibanez and McClouth because they're signed for 2011 and hitting like crap. Matsui because his bat isn't that much of an upgrade. Figgins might make sense in the offseason, depending on what the sox do with Viciedo. If they move him to 1b, maybe get Sea. to pick up a lot of salary. I'm sure Sea. will try and move Figgins and it fits in with the sox reclamation projects. Pierre has been hot lately. Yet him leading off doesn't thrill me. And while his glove has been better than advertised, if Pierre drops off on offense and defense, the sox don't have decent options to replace him-esp. as Ozzie loves his speed guy hitting #1. Having a young guy come into LF and hitting at the bottom of the order would be possible if Figgins were on board at 3b and to hit at the top.

What do we have in Viciedo?
I admit, I wasn't a fan of Dayan--Can't take a walk, his defense may never be avg. Yet he's won me over. He isn't striking out. He's hitting balls hard all around the field, and hitting pitcher's pitches as well. And his defense at 3b isn't as bad as his struggles in the minors would suggest. It's way, way too early to say what the sox have in him, though I do like the Vlad comparison. With the way Kenny's gushing about him, Dayan would seem to be a key bat going forward. You'd prob. keep him at 3b, with PK a decent bet to re-sign on a 2 yr deal, ala Dye's deal a few years back. Then the sox could trade Teahen in the offseason. At least the sox would only have to back players with more equal upside to Getz and Fields [i still think Getz would be decent--no all star but better than he showed in KC this year]

The White Sox: Who Are They, Really?
In no way do I see the Jackson deal as a sign the sox will have to trade John Danks. The sox can cut costs elsewhere such as Jenks or not re-sign Pk with Viciedo around. They'll find a way to pay Danks. The sox know that pitching--both SP and bullpen-is going to be where they spend their money as it will lead to them winning. Having solid defenders behind their pitching also plays an important part.
