  1. This journalist works for The Daily Northwestern? Never heard of him.
  2. If he made those comments about hitting file cabinets because of managerial decisions in NY, Philly or Boston, it would be front page news. With the Sox, it's just par for the course and a nothing burger that barely registers.
  3. Pollock makes El Caballo look like a consistent, non-streaky hitter...
  4. I think I would take that tradeoff if if if they brought in an outside GM and dumped McEwing Boston Menechino and one of Narron/Cairo.
  5. So it will likely be at least $11 million or possibly $12 million... Love the Angels' graphics. Josh Harrison 9th in NL MVP vote. Caveat, it was only eight years ago. All-Star as recent as five years ago. Then fell off a cliff.
  6. Plus those incentives for plate appearances. That's the most reasonable way to interpret it. On a current pace for 457.
  7. That's one more Leury Harrison or VV they won't be able to afford. Or the Jay/Alonso Special.
  8. Pollock won a Gold Glove in CF for Arizona. Unfortunately it was only 7 years ago.
  9. Always wants to be "cool" and invariably comes off as the opposite somehow.
  10. "I never wanted things to turn out so contentious. I don't have anything bad to say about the team. I am thankful for the opportunity and the way they treated me throughout this tough year." His Hawks contract, negotiated by the Cuban government, contained a five-year team option. Colas insists it was never explained to him and thought he had no obligation to SoftBank beyond 2019. He defected last winter in the hope of signing a deal with a major league club, something SoftBank would not permit. Dash believes he could sign with a big league club as early as January." https://english.kyodonews.net/news/sports Sounds like something Ozzie Guillen might have come up with...
  11. Chris Getz has brought little or nothing with him from the Royals...they hit on a string of high first rounders over there and Dylan Moore made the right moves for vets to get them two WS appearances, but their development results are typically bottom 5-10. Well, maybe the Sox would have messed up Witt, JR., too.
  12. Only 3.5 and 5.5 GB, lol. Has to be one of the most emotional celebrations of the entire season...just when you want to count the Guardians out after being 1 game up a week ago.
  13. Except he probably wasn't using his best stuff then...just getting work in to prepare for the season.
  14. https://www.ajc.com/sports/mark-bradley-blog/its-clear-freddie-freeman-isnt-where-he-wants-to-be/2IWEQNPP6ZCPRC7KJ34CZ4VFJE/
  15. Probably because he had so many terrible drafts under his supervision. Or guys who never realized their potential until first leaving the organization. Prospects were just his way of bringing established veterans into the fold. And it did work. Once. But never on a consistent, repeatable or sustainable basis. Unless that goal was second or third place.
  16. Well, how much speculation has there been about what early riches have done to Yoan/Luis/Eloy? I watched it destroy Puig's career...there are so so many distractions for kids coming from poverty-stricken environments. Yoenis Cespedes with all of his luxury cars was one of the big role models, the opposite of Abreu in so many ways. That's why Jose Ramirez is so great now...he was always underestimated and had to fight tooth and nail for everything he got. He got the big extension and is even better this year.
  17. Ron883 Because he was originally a big Cubs' fan, too.
  18. Would love to watch Hahn, KW and JR squirming in the luxury boxes. That would be perfect for ESPN Sunday Night even. Alas.
  19. https://theathletic.com/3366299/2022/06/15/twins-luis-arraez/ Basically argues you can't ever be a great player unless you stay on the field (Nelson Cruz tutored Arraez in the off season even after he left the Twins, that was his advice if he wanted to be an All Star) and get consistent reps...lost 17 pounds in the offseason, completely changed his diet/nutrition. And focused on his legs/base/foundation specifically.
  20. Still have the 50/50 possibility of a Rodon start Sunday. Without that, overwhelmingly boring. Webb start Saturday sandwiched by pitchers that are struggling unless they skip Desclafini on Sun.
