  1. We will certainly see next January when the Republicans control every branch of the US government but executive, and a weakened likely lame duck one at that. It doesn't matter whether I agree with you or not, the die is already cast. And the gun control votes in terms of cross-sectional American public opinion polling are a lot closer to 50/50 than the abortion rights issue (70/30 against getting rid of Roe v. Wade depending on survey phrasing). The only interesting developments to watch will be if DeSantis can actually wrest the nomination from Trump and if the Dems can field a single viable presidential contender in 2024.
  2. https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/29/sport/tony-la-russa-gabe-kapler-protest-spt-intl/index.html White Sox make the front page of CNN. Don't think that has happened before in the LaRussa Era. TA7 didn't even make it last week. In fact, can't remember it ever happening.
  3. Might as well be Timothy high on LSD.
  4. The control for next season at a relatively affordable price would be highly attractive to big market postseason contenders. Of course, those are the same type of teams we have to somehow get past. But yeah, it's time to return Vaughn to 1B. The problem is the corner outfielders, then. Most don't want Jimenez back in the field. They can find a Job Pederson, Calhoun or Naquin type to platoon in RF with Engel. Obviously need to sort out 2B and catcher. Just can't imagine an older Pollock in LF next year is the solution...so more wasted resources getting rid of him.
  5. That means Danny Tartabull to the White Sox for sure...
  6. Lynn depending on how he pitches for 6 weeks. But nobody trusts Hahn to find the equivalent pitching replacement via trade or FA.
  7. Here's the thing, they had a mass shooting in the UK and pretty much put a stop to it within a couple of years. It's not a notable problem in the EU or even "violent" countries like Colombia. What I can't wrap my head around is how Canada has so many more guns/hunting rifles than the US, per capita, but not even 1/10th the amount of gun violence. We are not even to June but already 30 mass school shootings. America is the only country where citizens have to be protected from the tyranny of their own government? That doesn't say much for the country and it's leaders. Here in China, and most countries with authoritarian dictatorships, citizens are never allowed guns. At worst, you have mass knifings at elementary schools, but those are much harder to pull off before being stopped.
  8. If every member of Congress sent their son or daughter into military for 12-18 months like in South Korea...that's just the thing though, it's not about universally shared sacrifice, but about scoring political points. If I wear an American flag shirt hat or pin everyday, does that make me more of a patriot than those protesting for better public policies?
  9. Angels are coming back to earth. Blue Jays have been underperforming, they’ll probably take off after this week, though. Then there’s the Red Sox, Guardians and maybe the Mariners. Just think Hahn or TLR are too stubborn to admit the obvious. Basically, we have to copy the Twins’ 2021 path…trading Giolito/Berrios, extending someone (Cease/Kopech), trading Donaldson and Cruz (which would be Abreu if he wants to leave, Graveman OR Hendriks, maybe Bummer, but then you have to hope Crochet is ready or go back into FA for relief help yet again.) Cueto might have some value still. Of course, they could go deeper by trading Lynn, Jimenez or Moncada, but none of those moves really make much sense in terms of maximizing current trade assets or fielding a competitive team for 2023.
  10. Why would he be the right guy to do that after multiple failures? Do we even believe he has the authority to do so over TLR?
  11. It’s really only him and Rowand…and it took both those guys 2-3 years to become regulars. After that, it’s Eduardo Escobar and Semien, but not for the Sox, obviously.
  12. Half the coaching staff are in and out of the clubhouse. Only noticeable for OD, All Star Game, playoffs, etc.
  13. We can’t even do that because the Twins are now down 4 starting pitchers and they haven’t been able to rely recently on the production or health of Correa or Buxton. After the results of this past week, just not thinking that anyone has the ability to run away and hide in this division. Not even the slumping Guardians are totally out of this with their easy June schedule. So it’s the worst of all worlds where we stick with the veterans because we’re still in the division or WC race, even without Anderson. Of course, these next three series could really put us well back below .500 again.
  14. Can’t see how Sheets has any value…but if they can trade him for another LHB, why not? The problem is are the Sox really better with the equivalent of Daniel Vogelbach?
  15. If you knew a family member or friend killed in Uvalde or Buffalo, wouldn’t you consider the shooters and/or the easy access to assault weapons more the enemy of the US than those who find it unacceptable? I mean, how are we helping our country when we now want even pregnant teenagers to still give birth to babies in the cases of rape or incest, but we can’t even provide them baby formula? Is pointing that out somehow unpatriotic or anti-American? Do we really want a country where even ten year old fifth graders are threatening schools (see story below)? That would have been simply inconceivable in the 1980's, when we only worried about razor blades in Halloween caramel apples and Tylenol that was tampered with... https://www.yahoo.com/news/florida-fifth-grader-arrested-threatening-140312160.html
  16. Harrison, Leury, Kelly, Pollock, Grandal, Abreu and Hendriks if we can’t compete this year, at best might be “decent” but not huge surplus value guys depending on their next two months. VV probably. Bummer, not sure what his actual value is at this point around the league, but some pitching coach might have a fix in mind. Change of scenery candidate. Jury completely still out on what Lynn looks like coming back late at his age and injury history. In theory they could install Graveman at closer if they dealt Hendriks to cut salary. You’re not getting that massive haul back keeping TA7, Anderson, Vaughn, Kopech, Cease. Giolito and Hendriks the two mostly highly sought assets. But is Liam’s value higher than Kimbrel’s last year to many mid market teams with another expensive year attached?…he’s no spring chicken and has a lot of high leverage mileage all around. They would take Robertson instead, for example. That said, he’s a horse.
  17. 4 weeks they can possibly recover. 8-12 makes it much much harder.
  18. Yes and no. Only the team really knows their work ethic and character. They have to decide whether someone will waste or fulfill their potential. But sure, it would have been easier to say 2-3 years ago that not signing Eloy...you risked losing the next David Ortiz or JD Martinez.
  19. Or are socialists, etc. For teachers, for example, we are all CRT fanatics and "groomers" requiring hotlines across the country to keep us in check. In China if you did what Kapler did you would be summarily sent to prison. Kapler has said numerous times that this was about living up to the standards his father taught him about a US citizen's inherent responsibility to protest in order to address societal wrongs/grievances. I guess nobody picks on Steve Kerr for that same reason because his father was assassinated at the hands of a gunman.
  20. It was embedded within the Fegan tweet. Basically he's not a trustworthy voice diagnosing from afar. PTAC would be more accurate because that guy (Chao) is much more knowledgeable about orthopedic surgeries.
  21. That guy (Dr. Chao) was 100% convinced Tatis was going to be out for most of last season and/or undergo offseason surgery on his shoulder socket and neither prediction was accurate.
  22. Have to go the Twins Angels Padres route. Full teardown is inconceivable in the AL Central.
  23. Pretty sure there's a new Athletic article about some of the more complicated upcoming situations. What's not clear is whether AJ Pollock or the White Sox are paying $5 million if he has a $10 million 2023 player option. I would guess it's the Sox wasting another $5 million to send him away with no replacement who's actually a halfway competent LFer. 2022 opt out available ($5M buyout), with 1,000 plate appearances across 2020-2021, or 1,450 plate appearances across 2019-2021 (not earned, barely) 2023 Player Option includes a $5M buyout 2023 Option escalates $1M each for 400,450,500,550,600 Plate Appearances in 2022
  24. The season would be a lot more interesting if the HoF called to inform him that a record of less than 86-76 would cause his status in Cooperstown to be reconsidered.
