  1. For $60-75 million? Eaton was just a placeholder reach by TLR due to his time in the AZ front office. Probably remembered the player of a decade earlier.
  2. Jeffers will get a lot of starts, as the pitchers really prefer working with him…with Sanchez at DH.
  3. We are 7th or 8th right now? And there’s just no way they bring back Sale with the current front office in place.
  4. Seems like we have had one continuous string of bad luck with injuries since last season… Guess we’ll get another expose on the training staff if these keeps up. It’s certainly not going to discourage the Twins, Tigers and Indians. Just have to wait until age 27-28 for Moncada to win the MVP like Buxton is threatening to do this year if he can stay healthy one full season.
  5. Now you’ve gone and done it…after he was almost universally defended this past offseason. Parkman will be on the loose. He was at least partially right that something was amiss with how consistently bad his at-bats were across the spring.

  7. On the plus side, Seiya Suzuki is expected to have one of the five best seasons for a Japanese hitter in the big leagues...hitting the ground running. How is Little Nicky's health? You have been a bit "under the radar" these days, what happened? Some are picking the Cubs for 3rd and a few even for second ahead of the Cards, although 3rd sounds the most realistic at this point.
  8. Our pick: White Sox (34 votes) Who else got votes? Twins (4) All but four of our voters chose the White Sox to win the division. You picked the Twins. Explain yourself! I am leaning into the great potential of their lineup. The upside up the middle is limitless with Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, Jorge Polanco (33 home runs last season) and a focused Gary Sanchez. Then you add Miguel Sano, and a contact hitter like Luis Arraez and they can make pitchers truly work. They were an above-average defensive team last season that added a Gold Glove shortstop. It will take some breakout seasons by the other young players, especially on the mound, but they have the talent to do just that. -- Doug Glanville AL CHAMPION Our pick: Blue Jays (16 votes) Who else got votes? White Sox (10), Rays (4), Yankees (4), Red Sox (2), Angels (1), Astros (1) You picked the Yankees to win the pennant. What do you think gives them the edge over our panel's favorites -- namely, the Blue Jays and White Sox? I haven't loved every move of the Yankees' offseason, but they're at least solid average at every spot except maybe fifth starter and middle relief, though those are also the easiest places to find unexpected contributors. With quality prospect depth lingering (Oswald Peraza, Anthony Volpe, Clarke Schmidt, Ken Waldichuk, Luis Medina, Deivi Garcia, et al.) to possibly contribute, the pieces to make another major move if needed, and the inclination to go for it this year, I think the incentives and talent level are right for the Bombers to break through this season, though I'd love to see a couple more pitching contributors emerge. -- Kiley McDaniel https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/33645791/2022-mlb-predictions-expanded-playoffs-world-series-mvps-cy-youngs
  9. Look at the FanGraphs postseason odds: Blue Jays: 89.0% Astros: 85.9% Yankees: 83.1% White Sox: 71.5% Red Sox: 62.6% Rays: 58.4% Angels: 43.7% Twins: 41.6% FanGraphs says the four non-O's teams in the division have four of the six highest postseason odds in the league, so the objective computers agree with me. So it shall be. Four AL East teams are heading to October thanks to the 12-team postseason format. 21. The White Sox will reach the ALCS Four AL East teams will reach the postseason, but the White Sox are going to the ALCS. This is notable because a) the White Sox have not won a postseason series since the 2005 World Series, and b) an AL Central team has not won a postseason series since Cleveland won the 2016 ALCS. AL Central teams are 4-23 in the postseason since Cleveland took a 3-1 lead in the 2016 World Series. 4-23! The tide begins to turn this season. The South Siders will advance to the ALCS. Dayn Perry picked the Tigers over the White Sox for the division, fwiw. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2022-mlb-predictions-expert-picks-for-division-winners-and-world-series-champion/
  10. Still miss Cookie and the Grand Prize Game...then there was Wizzo the Wizard. Marshall Brodien (July 10, 1934 – March 8, 2019) was a professional magician who played Wizzo the Wizard, a wizard clown character which appeared on WGN-TV's Bozo's Circus and The Bozo Show from 1968-1994.
  11. I would guess there has never been a collegiate pitcher taken in the first round with a lighter workload... would have to go back and look at Royce Ring and Aaron Poreda. Plus, another factor has to be how light he is. That said, guys like Sale, Pedro Martinez and Oswalt are/were hardly much bigger, Big Unit comes to mind as well. Greinke when he was drafted. Carl Edwards, Jr., etc.
  12. what do you attribute Crochet's problems to, more mechanics or simply the lack of previous starting workload at Univ. of Tennessee compared to Sale at Florida Gulf Coast? equivalent impacts?
  13. I'm with Greg775 on this one. No idea why they didn't pursue Francona after Boston....guess the timing was just wrong not having a competitive team and also Ventura as the placeholder/take hits for the organization to shield the front office guy at the time. Was there ever any issue between the team and Francona when he was managing Birmingham in the mid 1990's? https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=franco001ter Was the Barons manager for 3 years, took 1996 off and then started his career with the Phillies (lasted just four years), Never had a winning season in Philly, took 3 years away from managing, then suddenly has a 98 win team in Boston in 2004 at age 45 (and that first WS title in ages). Francona became third-base coach for the Detroit Tigers in 1996,[10] working under their new skipper, Buddy Bell, a former teammate of Francona on the Reds. He spent the following season as a special assistant to the general manager with the Cleveland Indians in 2001, which was followed by two one-year terms as a bench coach for the Texas Rangers (2002) and Oakland Athletics (2003).[12]
  14. When he wasn't KW's in-house spy in the clubhouse, lol. Or doing his weekly radio show.
  15. https://theathletic.com/2321274/2021/01/14/chicago-white-sox-shelley-duncan-apitching-analytics/ They still have the guy from Notre Dame who has been around 15-20 years, don't they?
  16. Kiermaier or Margot? They just signed Margot to a two-year extension, fwiw.
  17. "Paddack received an injection in his right elbow earlier this week and is expected to make a full recovery from a slight UCL sprain..." This was late last July, btw. PTAC, what are the odds of a "slight" UCL sprain with treatment/rest NOT later developing into a full strain later on? Any numbers on likelihood of recovery for a guy who doesn't feature a slider but a FB/CH guy?
  18. https://www.milb.com/player/jhan-marinez-501697 Crazy this guy was one of the two players that came over from the Marlins for Ozzie Guillen (compensation). Older than the majority of MLB players. Already one blown save for the Knights. Seems like they will go with a closer by committee approach. Let's hope Burger isn't out for more than day-to-day or any trade for pitching will REALLY be difficult to pull off.
  19. Hopefully just a precautionary measure with Burger. Perez has started out en fuego...has he always had that wide open stance?
  20. It's almost like they KNOW that Adolfo won't get enough playing time, so they're doing him a solid to not delay starting his career with another organization that will provide him playing time...
  21. Still think they're unlikely to give up a once-promising pitcher for someone who's so similar to Aristides Aquino. Adolfo has the bigger arm, but no track record.
