Grandal actually made a really good block there.

That ball hit the knob of the bat. No replay called.

Hahn Merkin puff piece on LH outfielder, Rodon
Just try to be somewhat objective. John Rooney did it extremely well. DJ and Farmer were/are mostly fair. Dave Wills also a great knack for finding the proper balance.

112 EV off Robert's bat. Singer has been working almost exclusively on change and breaking stuff in the minors over three starts. Grandal with a seeing eye single against the shift. Sheets strands two with an absolute can of corn to RCF.

Sal Perez already on the DL. Last Royals catcher to go both ends of a DH was 1995, Melendez. Carlos Santana as back up, originally a catcher coming up.

Even Ron is perplexed by this move. Have to get him out of there against a tough righty.

This makes the Ozzie Sunday Specials look almost Einsteinian. I guess our goal of being 3-3 against KC and 6-11 against the Central so we can play more meaningful games in the second half is well on its way to being fulfilled. Mission accomplished. Who the heck needs HFA against the Yankees, Astros or Angels anyway?

I know, I know. He has no choice. He can’t be Ranger Rongey and still keep his job, etc. But if the actual goal was to distract by making me dislike Merkin more than Hahn and LaRussa, mission accomplished.

https://www.mlb.com/news/white-sox-gm-rick-hahn-discusses-roster-strategies No mention about his creating that very lack of financial flexibility he cites by carrying Kimbrel, who’s now 7/7 in SVO. Nothing on Josh Harrison or the difficulty of finding an everyday 2B. Nothing on the defense by Vaughn, Pollock, Grandal, Sheets…not to mention Abreu/Anderson. At least he didn’t reargue that Eloy Jimenez isn’t injury prone based on information common fans don’t have access to. Guess this interview was done before he could take a victory lap on Cueto.

But that’s not the same thing as a “best/great” hitter. When you have more hits than walks…you’re hitting less by definition to get on base. It’s like saying Carlos Santana was the best hitter on one or two of those Indians teams when he was leasing the league in walks. “Big time year” is also not the same as best hitter. That was not the point being argued, either. Gavin Sheets had a big time year for the Sox for his limited number of plate appearances. Moncada had more fWAR and nobody would have called him our best hitter last year…not by a long shot. He might be Moneyball’s best hitter, or Paul DePodesta’s, though.

Carlos Rodon... What could the Sox gotten in trade?
Why in God's name would you trade him when he had limited value after 2018 and when you're just entering your contention window? I mean it wouldn't even be the equivalent of Soler for Wade Davis because you weren't even going to get that much back for him.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Singer isn't that good. Not one of the greatest drafts of all time that one.

Vaughn too high. Gonna have to prove he was right to the media about his 9 hitter strategy.

Right 10-6 and 9 games over .500 and clear of the Twins by well more than 1 1/2 because Minny would have lost at least 1 to the Sox if reversed. We can just call it a comfortable 2 1/2 game lead...with CLE 3-4 games back.

They have been so abysmal until this past week I almost forgot they existed. Had to boot Torkelson off fantasy team long ago. Pretty much no reason to think Riley Greene will come back from a long injury layoff and start raking. Baez is still better for highlight reels than consistent offensive production.

They definitely should finish below Tigers by end of the season...especially if Perez is banged up all year and Witt doesn't go on a tear. Carlos Santana fwiw finally looks like toast at his age now too. Merrifield finally coming out of a season long funk another aging veteran with a lot of wear and tear on his body from all those years in minors and stolen base attempts too.

Lol. 1-4 against CLE. 0-3 against Twins. 3-2 against KC. 4-9 We SHOULD own the Central, sure no argument there at all.

If you go only by OPS to measure hitters. It's never going to be that simple. On the 2022 White Sox, for example, all those walks would simply end up with more runners clogging the basepaths and not being driven in by the bottom of the order. And I also think he missed 30+ games...so he barely qualified and certainly Robert didn't in terms of plate appearances to constitute a full season. If you say great hitter, it's always going to be Anderson and Robert, with Abreu trailing now due to age. I mean, no actual player would say that if they were asked who was the best or most dangerous hitter on the Sox. Hawk Harrelson or Stone would never say that, either.

Abreu finally digs one out there in a key situation. He's out. Santana got that last call due to his rep for knowledge of the strike zone over his career.

This is going to be borne out even more as the season goes on. That is if LaRussa is willing to bruise Grandal's ego and do the right thing for the team winning games late. Should have been strike three there.

14 strikeouts for the Royals in back to back games.

Losing 75% of your games against NY isn't hanging unless you're the Sox Twins or Indians.

Because that was par for the course for Beckham after the first four months of his rookie season.

Not when it's so driven by an anomalously high number of walks. Fine I just don't think he's a catcher that pitchers can't rely upon and he certainly can't control the running game (that's 50% on the pitchers too). He's the reason we now have to force McGuire into the lineup so much. And the division was already settled halfway through the season last year. I mean, those saying he is great are arguing the same for Moncada but Yoan hasn't actually been a great hitter since 2019.
