Moncada had more fWAR and nobody would have called him our best hitter last year…not by a long shot. He might be Moneyball’s best hitter, or Paul DePodesta’s, though.

If you go only by OPS to measure hitters. It's never going to be that simple. On the 2022 White Sox, for example, all those walks would simply end up with more runners clogging the basepaths and not being driven in by the bottom of the order. And I also think he missed 30+ games...so he barely qualified and certainly Robert didn't in terms of plate appearances to constitute a full season. If you say great hitter, it's always going to be Anderson and Robert, with Abreu trailing now due to age. I mean, no actual player would say that if they were asked who was the best or most dangerous hitter on the Sox. Hawk Harrelson or Stone would never say that, either.

Abreu finally digs one out there in a key situation. He's out. Santana got that last call due to his rep for knowledge of the strike zone over his career.

This is going to be borne out even more as the season goes on. That is if LaRussa is willing to bruise Grandal's ego and do the right thing for the team winning games late. Should have been strike three there.
