  1. Just don't blame it on the Padres trading Brash, France and Torrens to SEA.?
  2. Not sure it's a move that a TLR would make with a rookie 3B but it makes the most sense to improve three positions simultaneously.
  3. That's where the Engel/Pollock OF would have saved a run. Wish we could see an AV at bat bottom of the 8th but not sure it happens. Leury is annoying again. And, finally, Kelenic not so good. 1/15.
  4. Of course, that all might change with a rainout tmrw...but that would likely mean a DHer unless they rescheduled for later in the season. Does SEA only have one trip to Chicago?
  5. https://sports.mynorthwest.com/1605740/mariners-matt-brash-meteoric-rise-rotation/ Crazy that he was a fourth round draft pick traded for a middling reliever. Terrible trade by Preller.
  6. Might not want to look at his July game log…seems the only chance is facing the Marlins. https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/31878/vince-velasquez Just goes to show how far Rodon fell to be worth the equivalent.
  7. Prediction: Kelenic gets at least one cheap “hit” in the scorebook due to the presence of Sheets in RF.
  8. What about soft-tossing lefty journeymen?…that was a never-ending nightmare many previous Sox seasons. Also demonstrates extraordinarily high pitching turnover in the AL Central.
  9. World Series experience. Throwing at least 92-93, touching 94 again. Left-handed. Obvious issues with a TA7, but who knows. $15M deferred ($5M each of 2021-2023) Limited Trade Protection (5-team no trade list) Only owed $60 million through 2024!!! Probably has the White Sox on his no trade list, lol.
  10. Why would they quickly settle for a lousy package from the Padres when the Sox were supposedly in the thick of it…granted, one versus two years of control, but Manaea has the much better overall track record and is now being considered a dark horse MVP candidate? The Olson package feels light too, because Pache might never be more than a low 200’s hitter. It’s just weird they are supposedly so patient to negotiate in public now after ditching three of their studs (including Chapman) so quickly. Maybe they’re waiting on the Twins/Archer and Paddack to get bombed by the Dodgers…Dylan Bundy definitely held his ground coming out of the gate. (Waits for Balta to show up with his own counter-prediction on those two guys.)
  11. Sure, which is exactly how he ended up at 162. 32 x 5 will do it. And we already know Kopech won’t get that close to 32 starts. Lynn is looking at 23-25. Gio down at least a couple. And they apparently don’t want to start Lopez…at least for now.
  12. Alex Wood also went 86, DeSclafini 74, fwiw…
  13. It's fair to say he was more or less a 2.5~3ish fWAR pitcher from age 28-30. But his one outlier season of 5.7 goes all the way back to 2015. Then you have to consider the fall off at ages 32-34. Just watching his radar gun readings and spin rates would have elegantly expressed the clear decline. So a bit similar to Shields in many ways...except for the Cy Young.
  14. If we extrapolate or project out to 32 from his 19 starts for ATL in 2019, he becomes a 1.35 fWAR that season. Just for argument's sake $10.8 million in FA value created. We gave him $55.5 million. Money which wasn't or isn't there to sign Rodon and extend Giolito. And now there's at least a 25% chance he gets 160 innings and locks in a $20 million 2023 contract because the Sox are going to lose that grievance starting VV over him. Unless VV goes all 2003 Loiaza or 2021 Rodon. Of course, 4.9 fWAR for Rodon would be worth almost a $40 million yearly salary...ceteris paribus.
  15. What were the odds of Keuchel being really strong at this point in his career when almost nobody wanted to touch him coming off that season with the Braves?
  16. You're not my buddy anymore, Pal. Signed, Guy
  17. If that's the case, I could now simply game the market ala Soros by never mentioning the Padres, Puig, Tatis, Hosmer, Royals, etc. Scarcity! But that wouldn't be any fun now. Better to go with a Russell 3000 Index Fund. But you guys can buy shares of housing, Basquiat paintings and farmland if you prefer. Arrived Homes, which offers shares in rental properties for as little as $100, raised $37 million in equity and debt from a group of investors that includes Bezos Expeditions, the personal investment company of the Amazon.com Inc.Jun 16, 2021
  18. Would be feeling better if we matched Mariners with a starting pitcher named BOLD…
  19. And that minimum of 160 last year was just barely met…if they blocked him at that point (denying one final 2021 start), another grievance.
  20. Highly doubt Romy, Popeye or Yogurt have MVP numbers hiding in those bats…Ramos has a shot, to be a replacement level 3B. More worried about someone making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear on the pitching prospect front. And Kelley is selling for 35-40 cents on the dollar right now.
  21. ERA under 5.25ish roughly…but also depends on the numbers of Kopech, Lopez, VV, Cueto, another starter we acquire and our AA/AAA replacements like Lambert and McClure.
  22. Now we have this year’s Kimbrel situation…a guy we didn’t even want on our 2021 postseason roster is currently in danger of making $20 million in 2023. Ironically, that right in the neighborhood of the money we were going to have to pay Carlos Rodon.
  23. Kelenic for Montas. He already lost his starting spot. Well, for one game. And Mariners=West Coast, although traditionally considered to be California teams.
