  1. Based on the assumption they still wouldn’t throw through with Hendriks at third...or purely trusting Leury’s baserunning instincts, such as they are?
  2. Or they were intentionally trying to injure him so they could reallocate the 60% reimbursement for insurance to another outfielder...? Only Rachel Phelps in Major League I would think of that. Except she’d pocket the money herself.
  3. Love how the Sox have Yermin featured with the $10 food voucher/hot dog with all the fixings picture. $25 ticket includes the $10 in “free” food. Friday 5: First Bite’s On Us at GRF Not sure we should encourage him any more after the debut of the Yerminator burger...? Or heck, just let’s have fun while it lasts and roll with it, I guess.
  4. Abreu isn't a burner or anything, but he's an experienced baserunner. Hendriks has only been on base one time in his career (in 2015) and he didn't even get to second base. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/tony-la-russa-admits-he-didnt-know-new-extra-innings-rule-after-white-sox-fall-to-reds/ Guess similar odds or likelihood to Cease going 3/3...
  5. Feels like political writers have been listening intently to those with contrarian views from small town Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan and PA for years and years now.
  6. They need to trade Haniger for best possible early return and just let Kellenic and Lewis and eventually Rodriguez play everyday. They’re not going to hang in the race without Paxson.
  7. Can he do that with a 95+ fastball?
  8. Bill James? Does he still work for the Red Sox? Still alive? We might have to settle for Stephen King.
  9. That will still happen when nobody claims him over the waiver period...
  10. Let’s hope 98-103 is back as well...
  11. https://theathletic.com/2571204/2021/05/06/greenberg-tony-tony-tony-la-russa-has-done-it-again-and-it-feels-bad-for-white-sox-fans/?source=freedailyemail Greenberg: Tony, Tony, Tony (La Russa) has done it again and it feels bad for White Sox fans When Tony La Russa was hired to manage the White Sox, I had my fun with the Jerry Reinsdorf jokes and all of the mishegas around the very Reinsdorfian move. Who didn’t? But the heart of the issues I had with the hire wasn’t that La Russa wouldn’t get Tim Anderson’s joie de vivre. “At 76, no matter how sharp La Russa is,” I wrote in October, “are the Sox getting the best version of him? You don’t have to hedge, the answer is no.”
  12. Why it wouldn’t have been Bummer...we will never know, but multi-inning outings are going to further burn away Hendriks’ competitive advantage with only the fastball. Eventually, his secondary stuff will get overexposed if he struggles to put away hitters with only the heater and has to trick the hitter with a pitch that isn’t his best (see K.Jansen with the Dodgers in recent years.)
  13. The last paragraph sounds exactly like Lillian, but the gist is pretty much accurate. We will see if Mercedes can get going again on offense with the lateness for Chicago traffic benching and now mostly sitting for the better part of a week almost.
  14. Oh and Tim Anderson wasn't paid 250 million dollars to be one of the best players in baseball and was known as a raw asset. Thanks for playing. That’s exactly what Tatis was when the White Sox signed him, a raw but clearly talented athlete/asset, but still valued on the free market at well less than $1 million. By definition, a first round draft pick connotes an even higher level of expectation. For example, Cheslor Cuthbert from Corn Island, Nicaragua, was paid nearly twice as much for a signing bonus, $1.5 million. Exactly the type of raw asset that JR has always valued as less than “financial savings/subsidies in hand” throughout his tenure as White Sox owner. But thanks for pointing out that Tim Anderson will getting paid close to $250 million at the end of the 2024 season, or roughly 3 1/2 times the value of the Yasmani Grandal contract. Also, no longer a raw asset but a polished gem.
  15. Dismissing or downplaying DUI’s is never going to be a winning strategy, either. Sure, many did it all the time before ride sharing services, and still take that risk. If LaRussa was like Bill Belicheck or Nick Saban and still a master of his craft, then maybe it does get overlooked...not that it should. And just like not everyone (including broadcasters) knows the arcane rules backwards and forwards...that’s not really the point, either. He’s expected to be better. And yes, many can take the planks out of their eyes before worrying about splinters in others...we get it, of course nobody is perfect, has never made a mistake or is infallible. They should be better than message board in real time “first” and not second guessing well after the fact. Don’t actively get in the way of your team’s opportunity to win. Is that really too much to ask for millions?
  16. Well, it is a bit much to defend TLR the manager simply because of his animal charity work...if that’s the criteria, why not Buehrle?
  17. Or to extol the virtues of Billy Hamilton singling in a situation calling for a homer or at least a double...
  18. Ban bet. fWAR over the remainder of their contracts, Betts vs. Voldemort. Is it on like Donkey Kong? And wasn’t there also a time Tim Anderson led the AL in errors at an even more advanced age? Surely Mookie Betts was dominating MLB at age 21-22, as well? 1.8, 4.8 and then 8.3 as a 23 year old. Tatis has already outproduced the Betts age 21-22 seasons, so he’s a full year ahead in terms of trajectory. Tatis would need 26 fWAR for basically 4+ seasons, from ages 24-28.
  19. And it shortens the bullpen innings considerably. Otoh, less revenue for JR to NOT spend.
  20. How many times have you watched him play, just curious...because arguing that he can’t field the position is idiotic. He tries to make every single play and every single throw that could be halfway close at first because he has one of the three best SS arms in baseball. He also makes throws from his knees, spinning 360 degrees and falling over backwards to second...he just needs to control his instinct to get every defensive highlight on ESPN. Forcing things. As far as PEDs, guess we should lump Vladdy Guerrero, Jr., Soto and Acuna into this and accuse them of all being on steroids, lol. Tatis doesn’t have the massive melon and huge biceps of those dudes from the late 80’s and 90’s. Two of those four had baseball in their bloodlines, not unlike Griffey Jr. and Bonds.
  21. Two homers...in AAA debut. https://www.mlb.com/news/jarred-kelenic-hits-two-homers-in-triple-a-debut?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage https://t.co/ImKTLSWEIN
  22. Don’t they already have a DHer coming up May 14th (next Fri) in Chicago...? Seems like there could be two (next Sunday) unless they crowd more games into the second half.
  23. The inning before, bottom of the 9th, they walked Naquin (ice cold hitter) to face India, who was 9/20 with RISP. It worked, but that wasn’t the right play, either. Just because he hit a bunch of homers the first two weeks didn’t mean he was at that point in time the bigger threat...if anything, India was much more of a threat to score two with a double than Luplow two with a homer.
  24. If you want to be alarmed, be alarmed about Lindor and Betts underperforming even bigger contracts...with declines in performance on the closer horizon.
  25. Yeah, a 6.75-7.0 fWAR at his age is pretty alarming. Lots of shortstops hit 45-50 homers per season, they practically grow on trees. He also had a 3.1 defensive rating in 2020 at 6’4” and handles the position much better than ARod or Ripken at similar sizes did. Btw, what was Kris Bryant’s K rate at the same age....well, he was just finishing NCAA ball. Besides, I’ve read this same argument about Tim Anderson nearly every season when he goes through a rough defensive patch, it’s just that starting the season and trying to justify a new contract are things to overcome...and he’s also having to get used to playing with a shoulder harness. Missed time in 2020 for what, playing in 59/60 games isn’t enough? In terms of durability, we can pretty much say the exact same thing about Jimenez and Robert, can’t we? At any rate, they have to find a place for CJ Abrams to play, too. https://www.mlb.com/news/padres-inbox-cj-abrams-mackenzie-gore-potential-trades The comp to Tatis isn’t relevant because you would be comparing TLR at essentially the beginning on his second full season managing...if he did that at ages 20-21. How old was TLR when he took over the Sox, already mid to late 30’s, with a law degree and life experience? Even if you want to make a statistical comparison, is TLR really one of the 10-12 best managers in baseball today? And what happens if we don’t see any noticeable improvement during the dog days of August, which is hard on even a 35-50 year old manager? What then?
