Shane Smith day: Sox @ Astros 6/10 7:10 CDT

That's something you will NEVER see out of Andrew Vaughn, a stolen base. Good for Elko...bringing energy/enthusiasm to the team. -

The competition at SS in both leagues is way too deep, and Jacob Wilson of the A's pretty much has to go...so no Meidroth. Plus the "counting stats" police will dock him. -

Probably go to Sosa at first, Vargas 3B, Meidroth SS and Baldwin 2B in all likelihood. Could always bring up Ramos, but that seems more of a longshot. -

He wasn't getting consistent playing time, whether you want to blame Getz/Venable. Struggling with defense and fundamentals. It was the right move to let him play everyday in CHLT and get his confidence back. -

Rojas shouldn't be playing any position other than third. Well, really...he shouldn't be playing anywhere after they bring Sosa/Baldwin back. Smith has lowered his ERA now to 2.37 and that HAS to be it for this game. -

Do the White Sox take a shot at Forest Whitley, who was recently DFA'ed by the Astros...former top pitching prospect 2-3 years ago? Smith still at 97 mph, lots of ground ball singles in this one...and traffic on the bases, but has mostly pitched around it. BULLPEN: TRANSFORM!!! -

Hitters and pitchers that get late starts on the season like Rojas almost always suffer this same fate. Used to be those QO guys who sign after May 1st and can never get it going. -
2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central

They're going to ask for more than that...they'll use all their expiring vets like Mullins, O'Hearn and Sugano to fill holes in their team for next year. -

Smith up to 78 pitches. 6th inning is almost ALWAYS the danger zone with him. -

Smith at 62 pitches....on pace for six innings at least. Reminiscent of Dylan Cease running up those high pitch counts, but 6 innings is fine considering how many innings he's already thrown this year compared to last (94 1/3). -
Tyler Gilbert is also back and giving up runs, just like Schweitzer...who now has a 9.00 ERA

https://www.milb.com/gameday/knights-vs-bulls/2025/06/10/781502/live?affiliateId=mlbcom-milb 4 homers for the Knights. Everyone in the line-up for a 700 ops except for that Baker guy who Getz probably didn't need to acquire. Baldwin Bandwagon is going to pick up, just like the Elko one 4-6 weeks ago.

103.7 EV, just 362 feet but the Sox will take it. -

Trade value, lol. Only .185/.579 still, even with the homer. -

Down to a 2.38 ERA. MLB Pitching All MLB Stat Leaders, 2025 Regular Season - ESPN Directly behind Garrett Crochet for 13th in MLB ERA at the moment... Oops, just jinxed him, Jeremy Pena has been one of the best hitters in baseball the past month or so. -

Hopefully no bettors threaten McCullers over giving up these runs to the White Sox... Didn't he hire a personal security expert/protection for his family in the last week or so? -

Tauchman continues to just get on base. Smith also reminiscent of Chris Sale with the lower velocities until he's facing a tough hitter or key situation...then throwing in the upper 90's. Bartolo Colon also had that capability, back in the day. -
Grant Taylor set to join White Sox in HOU

Pallette doesn't throw harder than Leasure though...he better have some dominant offspeed stuff if he's going to be a high leverage reliever at the next level. -

Hence my last sentence/comment...three closers in one season. -

Because saving money on Maggs Lee Valentin led to AJ Dye Iguchi Pods Everett Vizcaino El Duque Hermanson…fitting Contreras and F.Garcia onto payroll as well. Resource allocation. Pods Iguchi at the top changed the team mindset the first half…aggressive at jumping out to early leads and then the lockdown pen with three closers in one season starring Jenks Cotts Politte. -
It's way too early to be so definitive. Schultz and Smith have struggled and Taylor now looks like a reliever. There's such a thin margin of error...and Braden/Bonemer/Teel expected to approach the impact of Moncada Eloy Vaughn Madrigal and Robert. Then you have Rodon Cease Gio Crochet Lopez Dunning against a bunch of 4/5 guys, S.Smith and "potential." Also, the Sox payroll didn't come anywhere close to 29th previously...so you have to believe they will go from roughly $67-72 million when Robert is traded to double that in order to even field a competitive payroll like Detroit at #18 and StL #16 in the $145-147 million range. Meanwhile, the best, most competitive teams this year are all in the $200 millions and up...with the Cubs and Astros considered "cheaper" teams. And you're nowhere close to a stadium deal nor a solution to the player's union/ownership issues for 2027. Rooting for your owner to "pass on" as quickly as possible isn't a great place to be as a fan either.

Also...Williams teams always had power in the middle of their lineups and were built to entertain fans in their home park especially...even when they didn't win and were around .500. -

You're overlooking the Thomas injury in 2001, the Loiaza acquisition, which turned into Contreras (the cornerstone of the WS run) eventually, the 2003 team coming into mid August looking like one of the best teams in the AL and all the great moves/trades that set up the 2005 team for success. That 2000 team was working with smoke and mirrors in terms of their starting rotation as well.
