  1. In three at bats? Then what he was doing for three whole weeks of being the best AAA hitters in CHLT just completely deserted him?
  2. 6. The Rockies-White Sox troll vote movement is dead. The Colorado Rockies, despite an active two-game winning “streak,” are 15–57 and still on pace to lose the most games in MLB history—a record held by the 2024 Chicago White Sox. Neither the Rockies nor the White Sox, who again have the AL’s worst record (23–49), have many (if any) players worthy of starting the Midsummer Classic. But that didn’t stop a viral movement emerging to vote for starting ASG lineups composed entirely of players from the majors’ two worst teams. Monday’s voting update revealed that it was likely just an internet ruse all along. Catcher Hunter Goodman—the most deserving candidate between the two teams—was the only Rockie to land in the top 10 of votes for his position, placing fifth. The White Sox fared slightly better, with DH Mike Tauchman ranking third—partially thanks to Rafael Devers switching leagues on the eve of the vote update—and second baseman Lenyn Sosa squeaking in at 10th. While it would’ve been slightly amusing to see a couple more Rockies and White Sox pop up in Monday’s update, it’s probably for the best so that the joke didn’t gain any momentum to potentially displace a deserving Phase 2 candidate. https://www.si.com/mlb/2025-mlb-all-star-game-first-voting-update-takeaways
  3. A lot of this is internal indecisiveness about whether Baldwin even has the ability to be more than a super utility player. Still a weird look to prioritize Palacios' opportunities over a legit prospect at the start of the year. Seems to be a case where Venable doesn't trust lthe young player with more fundamentals issues...over a more experienced vet. Sosa is a similar type of player on the field defensively...just can't quite believe in him to make the routine plays that are necessary on a consistent basis.
  4. https://nypost.com/2025/06/17/sports/red-sox-internal-dysfunction-exposed-after-rafael-devers-trade/ https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/inside-the-absolute-s-show-that-led-to-the-boston-red-soxs-trade-of-rafael-devers-220018400.html The coaching staff has grown frustrated with the state of player development, specifically how much emphasis is placed on swing mechanics and hitting data, often at the expense of fundamentals. That imbalance, coaches believe, traces back to the Bloom era and has only accelerated under Breslow. One example cited is rookie Kristian Campbell, who has made a string of routine errors at second base since being called up. He’s not alone; as a team, the Red Sox lead all of baseball with 64 errors, one more than the Colorado Rockies and 17 more than the third-place Los Angeles Angels. Another error came during Roman Anthony’s debut, when he misplayed a ball in right field. The next day, Anthony was sent out to run outfield drills in front of the media. One team source described the message as deliberate: “This is what we still have to teach, at the big-league level.”
  5. What's the incentive? I'm pretty sure the valuation for selling the additional shares is already locked in at $1.8 billion or whatever (maybe those controlling shares are even higher)...while the Sox will most likely will continue to fall in value between now and 2029, JR's guaranteed family wealth for multiple generations of Reinsdorfs is already baked into the pie now.
  6. That's not insignificant money for the Brewers...still. I guess they're really hoping that Vaughn can be decent enough they can justify not having to pay Hoskins $18 million next year. Mid-market teams just can't afford that when they can go out and get a J.Bell, R.Tellez, C.Santana, Gavin Sheets, Domonic Smith type for pennies on the dollar. You only pay that kind of money for 1B/DH for true difference makers like a Rafael Devers or slightly below.

  8. Three run 9th inning comeback against Kyle Finnegan tonight. 15-57 now 34-128 pace...getting closer and closer to the 41-121 2024 White Sox, might not break the record (it's not easy to do!!!) Fangraphs projecting 50-112

  10. Bringing the hottest hitter in AAA up to play him for 3 days...then demote him again? So on brand for the Sox.

  12. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45392359/2025-mlb-ballpark-village-truist-park-battery-atlanta-future-business-cities-build "Financially, it's easy to see the impact of The Battery through the prism of the annual franchise valuations published by Forbes. At the time the Braves announced their move, the most recent set of valuations ranked the Braves 15th across MLB. The Braves now rank eighth, at an estimated $3 billion. Their 250% increase in valuation since the announcement is the fourth highest during that span, behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros. While it is hard not to be impressed by the sheer audacity of what the Braves had done, with the aid of public funds that remain a source of contention in Cobb County and beyond, it's worth revisiting Manfred's 2017 comments on a new model for teams. Would such projects -- a stadium and a neighborhood to go with it, created concurrently, become baseball's new ballpark standard?"
  13. Utah Jazz? Aren't the profit margins on sodas and bottled water even higher? It would be interesting to see how they compensate for that (religious/consumption differences)...ice cream and milkshakes are popular, for example?
  14. (Braden) Montgomery will be turning 27 that January....Quero 27 as well. Colson 28. Teel 28. Chase Meidroth turning 29. Miguel Vargas 30.
  15. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/mlb-rumors-brewers-star-danger-213128188.html “If the Brewers become convinced that newly acquired Andrew Vaughn could return to being an everyday first baseman, veteran Rhys Hoskins could be a valuable chip at the trade deadline,” Nightengale wrote. Hoskins has been involved in trade rumors over the past few weeks, and would seem to be a huge trade candidate since he has a $18 million mutual option for 2026. There’s a good chance that the team will turn down the option because of how much it is."
  16. But even as Roberts shared that positive piece of news, the Dodgers were still dealing with another situation with their pitching staff. He said the team is having to “plan on life without” Roki Sasaki for “as far as this year.” The Japanese pitcher has been out since May 9 and has been working his way back from a shoulder impingement. Sasaki has been “not comfortable” and Roberts said that he is “not feeling that he can ramp it up.” “I don’t know if it’s pain… it’s more of a question for Roki, to be quite honest with you,” Roberts said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “As far as kind of the sensation, I don’t — it’s discomfort. I don’t think it’s pain. It’s tightness.” https://sports.yahoo.com/article/shohei-ohtani-return-mlb-mound-022632130.html

  18. PORTLAND, Ore. (Sept. 24, 2024) – Portland Diamond Project is pleased to announce it has signed a Letter of Intent to purchase Zidell Yards on Portland’s South Waterfront for the future home of a Major League Baseball stadium, a significant step in bringing professional baseball to the Rose City. https://portlanddiamondproject.com/press/Zidell-Yards-Purchase
  19. Given Harrison's potential upside, it's not fair to completely slam the Red Sox. Devers has a big contract, but it doesn't feel out of line with some other recent deals -- such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s $500 million contract. Maybe the Red Sox will take those savings and go after some more pitching help, either at the trade deadline or in the offseason. Still, when you're looking to trade a player because of a broken relationship, it's hard to get fair value in return -- and it feels as if the Red Sox came up short here. Maybe this will prove to be the best move for the organization in the long run, but their playoff hopes for 2025 take a hit. Grade: C SF got an A- trade grade...fwiw https://global.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45520299/2025-mlb-trade-deadline-rafael-devers-san-francisco-giants-boston-red-sox-grades
  20. Yes SFG/Posey believe they're one more star on offense from being a serious threat in the playoffs. "All in/going for it" with that massive payroll bump, especially the second half of that Devers deal in years 8-11. But this very well might be THE one year that the LAD are most vulnerable due to all the pitching injuries. (And look at where the Orioles are now after NOT putting all their chips in last year. Or the Braves, waiting on Acuna, Jr.)
  21. Would need 2-3 middle of the order hitters and a closer just to get back to. 500. On a payroll where exceeding $5 million on a FA before 2028 isn't going to be allowed in order to control financial losses.
  22. Devers was not the $300+ million one dimensional player you add. Boston screwed up with Betts, but Bogaerts and now Devers will be addition by subtraction. Posey overreaching in reaction to SF missing on so many big free agent targets the last half decade.
  23. Devers is currently in the second year of an 11-year, $313.5 million extension he signed in 2023. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Giants will be picking up the remainder of Devers' contract. The Giants currently have baseball's best defensive third baseman in Matt Chapman, but he is injured for a few weeks, so it is possible Devers could play third base in San Francisco or just stick as a DH. The move came shockingly close to first pitch for Sunday's game. Harrison was set to start Sunday's game, but Sean Hjelle took the mound instead at Dodger Stadium. ESPN's broadcasters said they found out around 90 minutes before first pitch. In an in-game interview from shortstop, Giants star Willy Adames said he found out around 20 minutes before the game and expressed his excitement at welcoming Devers to the Bay. "Everybody's so excited," Adames said. "Me personally, I'm thrilled to have him on the team. Obviously, he's one of the best hitters in the game, and to have him on the team, I think he's going to help us do a lot of damage in the division. Obviously, we need a bat like him in this lineup, so now when we get Chappie back in the lineup, it's going to be exciting." sfgate.com/sports Well, it's going to be a battle until the end for the last WC spots in the NL and especially the AL. This should open up more playing time for Campbell Anthony Mayer and also (temporarily) put to bed rumors of an impending Duran trade.
  24. https://nypost.com/2025/06/15/sports/red-sox-trading-rafael-devers-to-giants-in-stunning-blockbuster/ Chapman must missing significant time.
