“The paintings/murals are located at Dorsey Park, a historic Negro League park located in Overton, a neighborhood that was known as the ‘Harlem of the South’ during segregation. The defacements included spray-painted swastikas over Robinson’s and Miñoso’s faces and a racist slur on Robinson’s mural. The vandalism was discovered by a seven-year-old boy who asked his mother what it meant, Nicole Crooks of the community group Catalyst Miami told reporters. “This was an act of hate, but it will not define us,” said Kyle Holbrook, the artist who painted the mural in 2012 as part of the MLK Mural Project in partnership with local artists. “This mural was born from a community’s pride, history, and power. We will restore it — stronger, bolder, and with even more purpose. Black history is American history. And no spray paint can erase that truth.” Holbrook has lived in the Miami area since 2009 and said he felt inspired to paint the mural to highlight the “special” history of Overtown that faces the threat of erasure.” https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6408342/2025/06/06/jackie-robinson-minnie-minoso-murals-miami-vandalism/ U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) called the vandalism a “vile act of hatred” in a Wednesday statement. “We must treat this for what it is: a hate crime meant to instill fear and division,” she said. “But we will not be intimidated. We will respond with unity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and the preservation of our history.”

Eight of the Top 10 teams in baseball have Top 12 payrolls. Basically you need to spend $200 million or more to have a chance. Even the exceptions are in the middle tier, Cards at 16 and Detroit at 18 with a $145 million payroll. Four of the bottom five lowest payrolls make up the worst teams in baseball...White Sox A's Miami and Pirates. Rockies (worst) are 21st. Rays still doing okay without spending...same with the Brewers/Guardians, as usual. Orioles Braves Red Sox and Rangers underachieving. https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/breakdowns/payroll

But the fact that we do not know when this is going to happen over the next 6 or 7 years, and the fact that it could not happen until 2034 when like Hagen Smith is in his second year as a Dodger, it's like very kind of strange to process."

Tough game for Meidroth...

Turn on the game only to hear about Vargas swing change again. Geez.

Advertising/sponsorship falloffs would be one area to look at…with such abysmal tv ratings.

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/mlb-valuations-2025-chicago-white-sox.html This would put Sox debt at $193.5 million...but most calculations out there are closer to the $125-150 range. Twins at $425-450 million. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/cnbcs-official-mlb-team-valuations-2025.html

Nick Kurtz and now Caglianone starting off slowly out of the gate.

The two teams who have lost the most in RSN/broadcast revenues (by far) have been the Sox and Padres, compared to where things stood just two short years ago. Twins and Guardians are right up there, along with all the NL Central teams not named Cubs/Cardinals. The Coasts have won, basically...with very few exceptions like the two just mentioned.

OTOH, they're still disrespecting the White Sox to the point where they believe they can hold Tarik Skubal back for the Cubs on the weekend and STILL go 3-1 or 4-0 against the Sox regardless. As it worked out, that backfired in reality. When that kind of thing stops...then you know you're starting to earn more respect around the majors.

The next market inefficiency. Having the financial wherewithal (and no debt or at least positive incoming cash flow guaranteed through other avenues) to hold out for 2-3 months and "corner the market" on free agents with below par value deals compared to any other "regular" or "normal" year of FA. It will be the Dodgers, Mets, Cubs (maybe?), Yankees, Red Sox (maybe?), Giants (from missing all their previous big targets like Aaron Judge and new determination w/ Buster Posey), Angels, Braves, Phillies, Rangers and Blue Jays (maybe?) that are the most aggressive teams here.

Absolutely have to get two frontline starters from BIRM and your future closer or it's almost back to the drawing board. Then you're having to wait on the 2026 Top 1-5 NCAA draft pick to make a dent somewhere near-term down the line. Vargas and Meidroth feel like really quite good "complementary" players on a playoff team, but they're still far from stars (or the next Dustin Pedroia/Altuve). Still don't know exactly what they have with Baldwin, Quero and Sosa (could go either way).
