Please end the Bummer trade... -
The Padres did that simply because they ran out of budget space...and had no choice. They did the same thing the prior year and it worked out beautifully, and were in a position to take out the Dodgers. The problem is that it doesn't make as much sense for non-contending teams like the White Sox...unless you're covering for holes in your minor league system. Even then, the bottom line is what return you're eventually getting on that (limited) investment. Martin Perez in theory had the most value coming into the season, after Robert. Pretty much nobody in the bullpen. Thaiss had/has a 0.6 or 0.7 fWAR (#3 on the position player side) and got a very limited piece back in return. Tauchman and Slater and Taylor are exactly the kind of guys the Padres will be looking at, along with Robert, but everyone will be sorely disappointed with the trade return. Rojas is going to return nothing, same with Clevinger. It's just not a very reliable way to move the needle on the margins...same thing with relying on Rule 5 drafts when you could probably go for an entire decade with the White Sox having negligible impact there since the 80's and 90's with guys like Bobby Bonilla.

Arlington Heights making stadium pitch to White Sox?
caulfield12 replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sure, but that was almost sixty years ago. If you remember the old Tiger Stadium, that place was also pretty much a dump (except for the overhanging outfield decks made it interesting) in a neighborhood and yet people wax nostalgic about that place now as well. The one thing I can practically guarantee is that nobody will reminisce fondly about US Cellular or Angels Stadium out in Anaheim, 30-40 years in the future. -

Patience is a good thing, except with Luis Robert, Jr. (see Vargas/Meidroth and selected vets). But they need guys like Bonemer to hit in the middle of the order and drive all those runners in.

https://arizonasports.com/nba/phoenix-suns/jordan-ott-suns-coach/3584285/ VERY LONG ARTICLE. But lots of good information here on the similarities with how JR and the Ishbia's operate. The Phoenix Suns have a new head coach and it is former Michigan State video coord– I mean, Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott, Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro confirmed on Wednesday. Subtle and not so subtle prods and digs like that one are a barrier Ott will have to break down over time. It is not fair to him. It is fair to owner Mat Ishbia. Ishbia hired and severely promoted general manager Brian Gregory despite Gregory’s dramatic lack of experience working in not only the NBA but a front office in general. Their personal connection and roots going back to Michigan State played a vital role in Gregory getting the job. He admitted as much himself. This already got the ball rolling on, “What’s next, Tom Izzo as head coach? A trade for Draymond Green?” It is logical for Ishbia or any owner to naturally hire people he knows from his past, people he can trust that hold similar ideologies. It is troublesome for the like-mindedness, or in this case, alignment, to follow what is a clear response to tremendously disappointing seasons by shifting the way they do things. ..... We should mention that both of these finalists came from the franchise owned by Dan Gilbert, a fellow mortgage business owner from Michigan who developed into Ishbia’s rival. The label “mortal enemy” feels quite extreme in any unscripted, real-life scenario but these two dudes genuinely do not like each other. On top of all the history they had coming into this new NBA chapter, Gilbert was the only owner to abstain from voting in the league’s board of governors approval for Ishbia’s ownership of the Suns, a hilariously petty maneuver. Rocket Mortgage, Gilbert’s company, had a sponsorship deal with the Suns at that time before it was ended ahead of schedule by Phoenix, per ESPN. Just as hilarious and petty. Gilbert doesn’t even refer to Ishbia by name, instead as the “guy in Phoenix.” That’s the type of honestly childish level this reaches, so you would hope there was not even any slim iota of this being related to Ishbia getting one up on the guy in Cleveland. Of all organizations, the Suns are not in a position to being passengers to that type of nonsense. Debate/discuss.

White Sox: Caleb Bonemer, SS/3B (No. 9) Paying Bonemer first-round money ($2,997,500) as a second-round choice from a Michigan high school looks like a wise investment for the White Sox. He stands out with his bat speed, big raw power and solid arm strength and is hitting .294/.436/.490 with four homers and 17 steals in 45 games in Single-A. He ranks third in the Carolina League in on-base percentage, slugging, OPS (.926) and extra-base hits (19). mlb.com

Isn't Barry Larkin one of the main guys down there with the Orlando effort now? Nashville has basically been crickets. The idea of the White Sox as a complementary entertainment option to Disney Universal Sea World etc. almost beggars belief. -
Building a winning rotation or pen through Rule 5 draft picks would be wholeheartedly endorsed by JR but never successfully pulled off by any team in MLB history...even Charlie Finley's penurious A's.
-
Ultimately, if they get nothing in trade return they're just taking time away from younger players. The bigger problem is no better outfield options to replace them in the minors. But Rojas was already starting to eat into Sosa's playing time (as well as Baldwin), and you can practically guarantee the Josh Rojas deadline return will be zero.

Now it has gotten so expensive with the whole jersey swath thing...all these collectors buying unopened boxes in the hopes of finding one specific autographed rookie card. Feels more like only a small segment of the public can participate, whereas it used to be middle class accessible. -

Back spasms are a whole world away from just a strained muscle...sometimes they go away completely in 2-3 days, or 3-5, or it could be much longer, like what Colson Montgomery experienced in ST. -

Much of the land was created through landfills in the 1920s as part of a $9 million realignment of the South Branch Chicago River.[1][9] The area then became a railyard for trains traveling to or from either the Grand Central station or LaSalle Street station.[10] The railyard was eventually demolished in the 1970s, forming a 62-acre vacant lot. The former railyard remained in limbo for decades. In 2001, Tony Rezko bought the entire land for mixed-use development. His plan did not come to fruition and he eventually sold the land in 2005.[11] Wikipedia -

"In fact, the Cubs have five hitters with at least 100 PAs and a wRC+ of 140 or higher this season, with Carson Kelly (166 wRC+), Seiya Suzuki (146 wRC+) and Michael Busch (141 wRC+) joining Tucker and Crow-Armstrong in that group. Tucker, Crow-Armstrong, Suzuki and Dansby Swanson have all hit at least 11 homers as well, making the Cubs the only NL team in 2025 to have four players reach double figures in dingers." mlb.com -

6/3 GT Brieske vs Smith Tigers/Sox 6:40
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in 2025 Season in Review
#29 White Sox Ever so slightly better. A 5-21 record in April elicited some terrifying fears that the Sox could be heading for a historically bad campaign for a second straight season, but a much more respectable showing in May combined with the infallible fact that Chicago is no longer the worst team in baseball has eased those concerns somewhat. This team is still very bad, but there are enough good things happening (Miguel Vargas, Shane Smith) and hopefully more young talent on the way (Hagen Smith, Kyle Teel) that should ensure this season is more run-of-the-mill bad compared to being a league-wide laughingstock like last year. #30 Rockies So much worse. The Rockies have lost all 19 series they have played this season and have been swept 10 times. They are scoring the fewest runs per game of any team and allowing the most runs per game of any team. Colorado is plummeting to rock(ie) bottom as a franchise, and are comfortably on pace to make everyone forget about how bad the 2024 White Sox were. Buckle up, it’s not going to get much better from here. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/mlb-power-rankings-move-over-dodgers-tigers-take-no-1-spot-while-mets-make-strong-push-of-their-own-180245878.html
