Except not spending has driven down revenues to the very bottom as well...only ahead of Oakland. No revenue sharing to rely upon as a supposed major market team. A disastrous last three seasons with RSN rights deals collapsing, cutting another $50 million roughly from revenue. Now it just feels like a death spiral...until at least 2029.

Maybe he can be reunited with firmer IU teammate 2B Micah Johnson...or catcher Josh Phegley. Retiring from baseball after the 2018 season, Johnson shifted his focus to creating artwork, a hobby he had only started 3 years before.[23] He opened an art studio in New Hampshire where he created physical artwork on canvas.[24] Johnson also ventured into the new and fast-growing medium of NFTs. He sold multiple pieces in early 2020, selling one NFT in April for six Ethereum or approximately $940. His works frequently depicted black children in an inspirational or encouraging light. On August 18, 2022, Josh Phegley was named the director of player development for Michigan.[26]

Ohtani doesn't seem like the type to hang on forever (like Ichiro did)...plus his body will probably start to break down in his mid to late 30s under all the stress of two way performance.

"When you combine the two player options, by leaving, Imanaga is turning down a guaranteed two years and $25.925 million in the belief that he can get a better deal in free agency. He’s probably right!"

Or they don't have the ability to make a one-time, lump sum payment without going to Ishbia.

Getz has zero ties to Benintendi. Any other organization would have just looked at him as a sunk cost and cut ties. Its only JR's stubborn nature that he wants to extract as much value from a contract until the point of no return is reached...but ask every Sox fan about Benintendi and they will just shrug and offer that nothing will happen until the 2027 trade deadline, if there even is a season. With Robert and Benintendi both gone, they will have the lowest payroll in the majors by then.

White Sox 1/8 teams not to receive revenue sharing nor pay CBT

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/shocking-details-last-summer-confrontation-193000396.html Bryce Harper's life basically threatened ... by MLB Deputy Commissioner after earlier threatening Manfred to get the "f$&@ out of the Phillies' clubhouse" with salary cap lecture. Those details from ESPN were the only details on the altercation until a new report from sports agent Allan Walsh. During an appearance on “Agent Provocateur,” Walsh reported that, later, a “deputy” of Manfred’s allegedly threatened Harper. “Don’t ever say that again to the commissioner,” Walsh said, quoting what was allegedly said to Harper. “Don’t ever disrespect him again publicly like that. That’s how people end up in a ditch.“ -
Yuck!!! Is the goal to have the oldest "young" team in baseball? The only thing worse might be taking another collegiate 1B at 1-1 in the draft. Fortunately, that doesn't seem likely for the first 3-4 picks at the moment. https://phillybaseball.news/2025/09/01/rhys-hoskins-future-could-the-phillies-reunite-with-their-former-star/ Tough choice...Phillies vs. Sox

https://www.mlb.com/news/shota-imanaga-free-agent-2025-26 No...he opted out when they refused to add another (fifth) year to the original deal, so he declined his $15 million option player option for 2026. Unique contract structure.

How about Getz wins an AL Executive of the Year award first? Coming in 2029, right? Should be easy to do starting with zero expectations. Right now, that covered award would be from reallocated from other execs...an appreciation/participation trophy for helping contribute to those other teams' postseason runs in 2024-25.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10144883-ranking-the-10-worst-mlb-contracts-on-the-books-for-2025-season Maybe if it was more money for 2026 but avoided 2027 obligations. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45880638/yankees-release-rhp-marcus-stroman The equivalent of Marcus Stroman next year...or A.Manoah in recent years.

12 hours ago, WestEddy said: I think Kim Ng did a much better job building that organization than Hahn did with his. The direct comparison was Hahn to Ng. And now you're on to Bemdix having the only say on the Marlins' farm while she was GM. At any rate, Chris Getz has/had nothing to do with that. Not getting to name his own manager derailed much of what Hahn was attempting to accomplish...just like not being allowed to sign Machado or Harper and being forced into Tier B free agents after the young core players were all locked up on the position player side.

Not after he became the union rep and then JR tried to screw him over a pittance...he's most likely to end up somewhere closer to his California roots. Maybe the Orioles, though. He pitcher well enough this season to get at least $15-18 million if not $20 on the open market.

Pence might be #100 on the GAME list. Giolito had all the bridges back burned by JR. -
2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central

In theory, it could be treated as a prestigious accomplishment and determined by a thoughtful process. In practice, MLB decides it via an easily swayed fan vote and news-dumps it late on a Friday night, unlike pretty much every other individual sports award out there. Because that's how much you should apparently care about this trophy." -

Notice the White Sox not even mentioned ONCE as a possibility by six different writers in connection to the top of the class free agents...and the likes of Quintana Bassitt and Keller at the bottom of the Top 40-50 aren't even realistic, either. -
Angels are going trade Adell and/or Ward and have plenty of money to spend still. When most of the Top 15 names are off the board or accounted for already, someone in that second tier of teams/payrolls will blink.

18. Trent Grisham, CF: four years, $66MM Tim: Angels / Anthony: Rays / Darragh: Angels / Steve: Astros In the course of a single season, Trent Grisham shifted his appeal from his glove to his bat. That transformation is going to make him a lot more money than anyone could’ve anticipated in spring training. mlbtraderumors.com Very similar to Benintendi long-term deal in terms of AAV.
-
Now is the year for Grisham to lock in long-term for 3+ years....hasn't had an offensive year like this in ages and he's at the ideal stage in his career to max out. Imanaga likely to renegotiate for another 2-3 year deal. Especially with Steele out until mid season. Plus they can leverage him and Suzuki to add another NPB player such as Imai.

The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
caulfield12 replied to palehose1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's over 2 million fans and under 800,000...taxes and subsidies. Neither are likely to impact them unless they're still not competitive three years from now and have to again rebuild after a strike with no new stadium in sight. That would be worst case bleak. -

As long as he grades out as at least an average big league defender somewhere... We've already had a number of debates on Baldwin Vargas Colson Sosa Mead and Meidroth. Carlson seems to be the only unquestioned glove talent. For a strikeout deficient starting rotation...pretty critical.

That would have been an interesting overturn the pitch prior when he deliberately stuck his hand out late. On the road in the most hosting environment possible. Like calling IKF safe on that throw from Rojas to end the series.
