We can’t ever actually win a trade without some sort of laborious retrospective rationalization. Seriously, what were they going to spend any money for the following 2-3 seasons? Would love to know what was Plan B had he actually signed with the Cards for more money. And it still doesn’t change the fact we still missed on all our evaluations on the players coming over from NYY. Had we hit on that trade, we wouldn’t be so desperate for a RFer right now that we currently can’t afford to pay because of the shoddy roster construction.
