  1. Maybe...but it’s really hard to break through and get that first one when your rep is bat first, below average defender in the early part of your career. Rodon getting REALLY emotional there with the K....shouting over the crowd.
  2. Nice throw by Abreu. LaRussa had the corners in, middle infield conceding.
  3. Shades of Game 3 last year...
  4. Madrigal rushing yet another throw...SIGH.
  5. Nice hustle, Madrigal. Montgomery brought his A game tonight as well, that curveball can be downright nasty.
  6. Burger with his 5th homer. .208/.817 Mahtook with his second.
  7. Katz has really worked on Rodon’s lower half....getting him to work more efficiently. Better leg extension and drive, less stiff, momentum right through to the target instead of falling off to the sides or losing balance. FB average up from 92.8 to 95. Better riding action, elite spin rate for first time on his four seamer. LHB 2/26 against Rodon. Odor and Gardner should struggle.
  8. Will need to make his second big adjustment or face going down for Goodwin...or Sox trade. Yankees also missing Hicks (along with Stanton), could be out for most of the year.
  9. Also brought up Tino Martinez being hit by Armando Benitez...similar retribution HBP, fractured or chipped his scapula and he was never the same again. What if Yermin was sitting on the DL tonight, out for weeks with a broken wrist?
  10. “When a position player is on the mound, all bets are off.” David Cone Let the kids play. Have fun, brought up the Rizzo outing for the Cubs. Also, that Madison Bumgarner would be one of those rare enforcers of the glory days rules.
  11. Rodon campaigning to start the ASG with that opening. Nasty sliders. Only one hit in 37 this year on that pitch, and that was of the infield variety.
  12. Grandal getting lots of off days this year. Collins against LHP usually no bueno. Garcia keeps getting Lion’s share of PT. Nearing a Mendick/Eaton platoon in RF. Abreu and TA7 both 2/6 against Montgomery, Hamilton 0/3. Not much to go on there.
  13. Yankees are pursuing Delino DeShields...basically a slightly better Leury.
  14. Might want to stay out of crypto, too...some seismic changes taking place.
  15. RayRay going all CIA/Snowden...
  16. Not choked. I think they stopped competing too early after sweeping the Twins...started experimenting with relievers to find the right combinations. At that point, there wasn’t even a clear third starter, remember? Robert was in an atrocious tailspin. They took the foot off the gas, got run over by the Indians and couldn’t get their mojo back down the stretch...going from nearly the best record in the AL to almost missing the playoffs did elicit a sense of panic in such a young and inexperienced team. I mean, Keuchel choked, right? And they still had the lead in Game 3 and plenty of positive vibes until Crochet had to come out early. Also don’t even know if Renteria was actually allowed to pick his starter for that one...
  17. No doubt TLR has more weapons. Jimmy Cordero was abused/overused, but the Hahn Special in Cishek was a hot mess from the beginning. Compare those names from the 2020 bullpen to this year. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/2020.shtml For God’s sake, Ross Detwiler and Jace Fry vs. Crochet and Kopech...Colome vs. Hendriks, etc. Burdi. Gio Gonzalez.
  18. I think they’re going to try to keep Hamilton as last man on the roster. Unfortunately, that leaves Mendick as the odd man out, depending on Eaton’s health status. Or Lamb. Don’t assume it’s 100% automatic Engel will supplant Leury in LaRussa’s estimation when/if he does return at 100%.
  19. Watching the utterly preposterous F9 might help you escape for two hours and fifteen minutes, but probably not.
  20. Ohtani is the current favorite for AL MVP, or Vladdy Jr./Jose Ramirez.
  21. Leury=-1.3 Vaughn=0.6 FG defensive ratings
  22. That would be at least a 7-10 game suspension going after him twice.
  23. Chains comment seems to be directly addressing Moncada and Yermin, among others...
  24. It might be the only homer hit in modern baseball history at a pitch under 50 mph, unless Wilkerson of the Orioles managed the same ignominious feat with Wendle. Certainly under fifty thrown by a position player in the StatCast era.
