Javy Baez Signs 6YR 140M Deal with Tigers - Morosi
Suzuki is one of the few remaining players I would actually be EXCITED about...exhilarated is pushing it. If we get one of those former Braves' outfielders from last year, you know what will happen. That said, Rosario's familiar with the division and Joc has been a target for what, 4-5 years...going back to the famous trade that almost broke and then collapsed. Something to do with the kid of a White Sox employee leaking info. Undoubtedly, the starting pitching options that will be remaining (not considering Kershaw, he seems like LAD or Texas) are a minefield. Greinke has a complete distaste for any and everything to do with Chicago. Doubt we see any GM go after Bauer, but someone will get desperate EVENTUALLY, and get a bargain performance-wise, but not from a PR standpoint, obviously. Stroman has been the one really quiet name there so far this off season. But TLR supposedly blocks that one. Looks like the trade market for a pitcher is more likely at this juncture. Biggest acquisition is essentially Vera, hoping he develops QUICKLY. Also, good utilization of more names than the typical Caulfield post! And at least my fellow White Sox fan is definitely on board with Leury, haha. Hahn did something right, for once Yahoo/Inbox Wed, Dec 1 at 7:48 AM Chicago White Sox, valued veteran Leury Garcia agree to terms on new contract, baseball source says https://es.pn/3EdCes8

Rick Hahn has the most dramatic two-year winning percentage increase in baseball history after compiling one of the the sport's worst from 2012~2019.

IHOP, Village Inn or Waffle House? Do they still have Denny's? At this point, I'd settle for McDonald's, but not sold here in China, syrup is too sweet. They do have Tim Horton's, though.

Offseason so far is about like a kid receiving Werther’s Originals from grandparents instead of virtually ANY other candy he actually wanted.

White Sox sign Leury Garcia to 3 year deal
Leury is not exactly known for his defensive highlights…even if bad routes, throwing to the wrong bases and related mental mistakes usually don’t show up in the boxscores. I just hope Hahn has a press conference to announce it. Hold that thought…there are only 1-2 in the media covering the Sox that will challenge him directly on anything, so it would be pointless as usual.

White Sox sign Leury Garcia to 3 year deal
The money will be spent. ONE day during one of these insane offseason signing weeks, we will actually ink someone to be excited about. Wakes up to refresh SoxTalk, of course it’s Leury, even though the majority of projections the last couple of weeks didn’t have him on their future roster. TLR cannot be denied. Looking forward to Wainright and Molina in 2-3 seasons.

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
Jean Segura, 32 opening day. Long long professional track record. Until proven otherwise, 32 is the new 34-35 in baseball years. Exceptions for middle infielders and CFers are becoming increasingly rarer. And why are we now trading away youth to get older guys when that’s the opposite of how you extend a window?

Yan Gomes Signs With Cubs
You really think they will break in a rookie catcher who will be offensively overmatched in the heart of their contention window…and who might based on 2022 have to carry a more substantial workload?

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
Must be bWAR. The point with players in their thirties isn’t the back of their baseball card anymore, but what can they produce going forward. Is he going to be 2-3x more productive than Cesar or Leury in 2022 when you compare their respective sticker prices?

Grandal will get roughly half the at-bats there…or Sheets, because LH. Making Vaughn a weakside platoon DH at this stage in his career is idiotic. Or you’re suggesting we will trade Sheets and be even more right-handed? Then you have all those guys like Eloy and Abreu that will need to be rested or protected at that spot…gimpy days, etc.

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
Sure, as long as they add Conforto or Suzuki or ANYONE who can play halfway competent defense in RF. Which basically forces a Vaughn trade for starting pitching… Yankees signed Kirby Yates, two years, $8.25 million…would have been a solid move for that Tepera slot in the bullpen.

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
Hahn could have admitted the mistake with Escobar…signed him, or doubled down on exercising a much cheaper option on Hermandez if they truly believed in that player turning it around. He did neither. If you could have Escobar OR Hernandez and Tepera instead of Segura coming to a completely new division and over from the NL…that would seem more prudent. Cesar and Ryan would cost nearly the exact same as Segura alone. And he balances out the RH nature of the line-up more.

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
Spending an unplanned $14.5 million at this spot that instead could have been part of the package for a true “over the top” addition. If we sign at least one player for over $90 million per season, then maybe we can’t as easily argue the Kimbrel and Keuchel deals blocked a much more exciting addition.
-
MLB 2021-2 off season thread
At $14 million more per season and downside approaching… If you had never heard the name Craig Kimbrel before, you would be a bit befuddled if we had added Segura to this line-up as a FA for the same exact price.

We keep asserting that 2B is so easy to fill, just like RF and DH, yet we keep throwing money at it like drunken sailors to no avail.

Javy Baez Signs 6YR 140M Deal with Tigers - Morosi
How old were those players when their long term extensions ran out? How old will Baez be? 35 is not even close to late 30’s/early 40’s now, is it? It’s not going to financially hamstring the Tigers in any way, shape or form.
