Getz is promoted to Ast GM
It won’t matter based on his draft year stat line and anecdotal evidence from Schaumburg last year hardly proves admissible in a hearing. They can point at Madrigal’s speed of promotion, but he still had considerably more MiLB experience and the numbers to justify moving him (or Robert, for that matter) so quickly.

Colome to Twins, 1YR 5M plus option
Or Cordero would still be the roster, Burdi, etc.

Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
You already ? own 1,125,000 shares?

So there’s no club option on Cruz? I guess most were expecting $14-16 million for just a one year deal.

The White Sox 3-5 year window
Way too early to forecast that the Padres’ method will mirror the Cubs, because for that to happen you’d need some combination on injuries to top players (Bryant) and non-performance (Darvish for first half of Cubs’ run, Heyward, Kimbrel, Chatwood, etc.) But they have the minor league depth and especially pitching depth to sustain things at least through the end of the Tatis contract (four more years)...which should be around the time Machado’s prime has passed. Of course, the White Sox risk losing Giolito after 2023 and Anderson the following year. If anything, the Cubs and Royals look more similar (except on far different payroll scales), in that they hit early peaks in their window but had difficulty sustaining them.

Did the Sox make the right moves this offseason given the money they have spent?
And that information/wariness is already priced into his market value. Perhaps for a super team in need of this year’s version of Hader, you roll the dice knowing he might end up under the knife, but how many of those 98-103 MPH pitchers have gone injury-free for more than 3-5 years anyway?

But they’ve diluted their shares by 75%. Sure, AMC will trade $15-22, but Cinemark and especially IMAX are better positioned.

Would love to see the average salary of those over 60 taking all these jobs out of financial desperation/inability to keep up with health care and prescription medicine costs. Of course, lowering MediCare eligibility to age 60 would mean tax increases somewhere....but there must be so many displaced workers in that 50-65 range who are struggling mightily.

GameStop at $134 and falling. Just wait until after Robinhood’s IPO and they invariably get hit by a short squeeze in revenge...how will they manage to officiate that one in a way that won’t turn into a PR disaster?

There should probably be a separate category for idiotic/drunken athlete-baiting social media attention seekers...see Atlanta Karen vs. LeBron last night. Seems whatever is in the Florida water is migrating north. Thankfully, that’s one thing that rarely happens in baseball, unless it’s Little League parents and coaches. https://sports.yahoo.com/maskless-heckler-ejected-after-yelling-at-le-bron-james-during-hawks-lakers-game-042135156.html Could also go into the Covid-19 thread, lol...

MLB considering 154 game and delayed schedule
- Market/Financial Thread
Pretty sure the ten shares were at $16 but the point still holds...unfortunately, it probably doesn’t make the news at all if it was a middle class Asian kid.- MLB considering 154 game and delayed schedule
The problem during the last five years is the “veteran middle”...pretty high quality but FAs in their 30’s. Part of it’s obviously due to shortened playing careers with less steroids in the game, theoretically. Players are largely done at 33-34. Obviously there have been a few notable exceptions in all sports, but not many.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
By Savanna? Prophetstown?- Did the Sox make the right moves this offseason given the money they have spent?
Or just a solid veteran defensive catcher to pair with Giolito...we have so much depth in that pen...plus there invariably are the vets that become available as final roster cuts.- Did the Sox make the right moves this offseason given the money they have spent?
You’re underestimating the damage that will be done to the pen if the last two starters struggle...and God forbid an injury to the top three starters. Hendriks is fine as an over the top, finishing piece...for a World Series contender. But we skipped over a few steps to get there, at least for this season. The depth we had with two legit catchers is sorely going to be tested. And having experienced Billy Koch, Linebrink, Dotel and David Robertson, I just have an aversion as a lifetime Sox fan about overspending on bullpen pieces when there are major holes remaining across the roster. I’m not going to bother to list them all, but we’ve had roughly 8-10 underpaid guys capable of closing emerge from the most unexpected places since Howry/Foulke, and paying top of the market dollars just is scary. Maybe part of it was witnessing Craig Kimbrel go from the HoF to a complete enigma. Now if we had normal attendance/incoming revenue and weren’t so artificially strapped with budget constraints, it wouldn’t be so bothersome.- Did the Sox make the right moves this offseason given the money they have spent?
Jackie Bradley Jr., instead of Eaton No Hendriks, money goes into a starter, let’s say Odorizzi, instead Veteran back-up catcher- Sox resign Rodon 1 yr /3m official, Vargas DFA
Quite a bargain compared to a much older Messi at 4/$674 million.- Market/Financial Thread

Interestingly enough, the $2000 stimulus checks are either disappearing or being cut down quite dramatically as we speak as proposed stimulus package is cut from $1.9 trillion to roughly $600 billion.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread

"But at this time, we are stuck in a position where we have to prioritize limited federally distributed vaccines based on medical fact and not on political want.” Gov. Murphy Another one of those morals/ethics debates....like student loan forgiveness. Should at-risk smokers (or those who are overweight, for example) in New Jersey be prioritized over public transit workers or teachers for Covid vaccines? We typically blame the poor for their condition...so why reward those who don’t follow healthy lifestyles? Should we also prioritize those who refuse to wear masks, for example? Lots of slippery slopes.- **Movies that we Watch** Thread
You might need to update your signature box to Kyle vs. Ragah. That said, Ragah might not be long for this place the way he’s going recently.- MLB considering 154 game and delayed schedule
The results are mixed. The Cubs and Royals got their titles, but couldn’t sustain their success out beyond 3-4 seasons. The Red Sox and Giants dynasties also fell apart, but then you have the next generation of rebuilds in the Braves, White Sox, Padres and Blue Jays. The Astros arguably are the closest to validating it, but they cheated...so they’re challenging to objectively assess. Perhaps the Rays and Dodgers are the quintessential mirror images of fundamentally similar strategies (sustained success) but at opposite financial poles.- MLB considering 154 game and delayed schedule
Right, but you can still make a legit argument that today the four best teams in baseball are all in the NL. There must be some ownership groups wondering if there’s any point in doing anything besides maximizing revenues, like the Pirates. Still, hope spring eternal, like the Rays, Padres, A’s, Marlins and Reds experiencing success last year, or the Royals almost winning two consecutive World Series in a market where fans regularly protested the Evil Empire NY Yankees in the 90’s and 2000’s. Baseball tends to go in cycles, though. - Market/Financial Thread
