  1. No, Tilson went to Hahn’s high school...that should have been the first warning sign. Tilson was a Top Ten Cardinals’ prospect in the same way that Jerry Owens and Andy Gonzalez were for the Sox. And Burdi’s fine, but we need a homegrown position player superstar if we categorically refuse to take the risk of overpaying for one. Closers have such a short shelf life these days.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/news/ian-hamilton-has-minor-setback-with-shoulder In other bad news, Carson Fulmer is starting today’s game...this might be his last chance of the spring. Don’t think he’s had a single outing without giving up at least a run.
  3. They might outdraw us some nights...especially when they have some really cool giveaway up items. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=l_att&lid=117&sid=l117 The Knights were first in the International League at nearly 9,000 per game. There’s a business aspect to having winning/playoff teams at the AA and AAA level...you want to keep your best affiliates happy with their player development agreements.
  4. Selected by the Seattle Mariners [Team Picks] in the 33rd round (987th overall) of the 2013 Amateur Entry Draft How did the Mariners of all teams scout him out of Simeon when he’s practically in our BACK YARD? It’s the same thing Royals’ fans said for a decade after one of the Top 10 all-time hitters in Albert Pujols was parked at Maple Woods Community College, roughly 5 miles away from Kauffman Stadium. “For those who don’t know, Ray is a product of the much lauded White Sox ACE program, where they help grow the game of baseball on the Southside of Chicago and keep kids out of trouble. Ray then went on to star for Jackie Robinson West (RIP), Simeon and Louisville, a favorite program of one Nick Hostetler. After failing to get hometown kid Nick Burdi in the Rule 5 Draft my heart is aching for a nice storyline, so lets go check in on Corey Ray.” https://www.letmebfrankblog.com/2018/01/10/white-sox-check-price-brewers-corey-ray/ I’ll restate it another way...we can’t even suck well enough to get talent at the top of the draft because of our classic Tier B veterans. How can the Brewers go from drafting 5th in 2016 to one of the best teams in baseball two seasons later...while we ended up with a catcher who is just as likely to be a 1B/DH? In actuality, that draft looks pretty bad right now...but they’ve still got time. And if we can’t sign a Machado or Harper, if we don’t have any homegrown players (see Mauer in Minnesota), what prayer do we have of attracting 2.5-3 million in attendance again?
  5. At first I thought you were talking about Nova at $9 million....that will go down with Derek Holland as more wasted money. Why not try something new, like a Japanese or Korean just to see if something sticks to the wall? What, KW ran out of videotape from JPL?
  6. I can guarantee that movie never comes to China. Escape Room and some of the Conjuring movies is as close as we get....mostly South Korean, Thai and Indonesian horror flicks. Completely underserved/underdeveloped genre here. More action movies...a rare romantic comedy like La La Land, Green Book is surprising here....Warcraft, Pacific Rim and Alita have each posted far bigger numbers here than in the States. Venom outperformed Aquaman. How to Train Your Dragon and LEGO Movie 2 are disappointing. Captain Marvel at $100 million today...”The Wandering Earth” sci fi disaster film at $686 million since February 5th. I think it should be on a Netflix soon.
  7. The top 3 billed stars and Jordan Peele are really on quite a run... when does it premiere?
  8. Yep, up there with Knight Rider and The A Team.
  9. Madrigal, Cease and Robert...along with that #3 pick, and another #3-7 in 2020, that’s a big risk to wager the rebuild on without at least two 3-5 fWAR players (one pitcher, one hitter) from outside the organization. Catcher has to be the most concerning, along with that Lester/Shields/Verlander “over the top” veteran pitching acquisition. They simply can’t blow that like they have over and over again since Dunn. There’s no easy replacement for Yasmani Grandal if we can’t sign him...maybe trading for Austin Hedges with Mejia supplanting him. Gary Sanchez is another bad season away from being pushed out of N.Y., but is not good enough defensively (sound familiar?)
  10. Jay, Guyer and McCann seem closer to Third Tier if there was such a category...
  11. Interestingly, one of the projection systems only had the Padres winning two more games with Machado as compared to someone like W. Myers or France or Greg Garcia trying to play there.
  12. It’s just the fact that we seemingly never end up with local players like Cliff Floyd, Granderson, Kipnis, Zobrist, etc.
  13. This dude better throw hard as fuck or I’m confused as fuck to why we’re adding him. Is he perhaps related to Jon Adkins?
  14. That element definitely exists in American society, though, whether we want to admit it or not (look no further than the "gay pride" discussion, and the fact that "four-in-ten Americans (42%) said that being gay or lesbian is “just the way some choose to live,” while a similar share (41%) said that “people are born gay or lesbian,” according to the most recent Pew Research Center poll on the issue, conducted in 2013. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/03/06/americans-are-still-divided-on-why-people-are-gay/ As far as anti-Semitism, look no further than the ongoing campaign/character assassination against George Soros, for one. Go back to Charlottesville and the chants. Heck, even Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook actively participated in it by attempting to frame his as the villain leading a global cabal to take over the world. Of course, sophisticated posters (and most Sox fans, for that matter) can make a distinction between a "cheap front office" and someone's ethnicity, but the lines have definitely blurred in recent years. It's the reason we don't have Filibuster anymore at SoxTalk, because everything is about "sides/partisanship," the other side is evil incarnate/the enemy/racists/intolerant or "doesn't love their country/isn't patriotic/socialist/anti-American" or whatever particular label fits that day. If we go through another tease of an off-season in 2019-20 after finishing with a win column number below 60 this year, it's going to get REALLY ugly. Unfortunately, it feels like the worst MAY yet still be to come.
  15. Worse would be a Jimenez OPS under 800 (considering he's pretty one-dimensional) and any type of major injury to Moncada, Luis Robert, Dylan Cease, Madrigal, or setback to Kopech in his rehab. So no, we haven't reached the bottom, yet. Or the Cubs going on another tear in the NL Central over the next 2-3 years while our rebuild fails to take off. Getting trolled by Padres' owner/fans and the Phillies doesn't make things any easier, though. It's kind of embarrassing for a major market like Chicago to be blown out of the water by SD, of all places. It's a really cool city, but c'mon. It's not SF, NY, Chicago, LA, etc.
  16. WSI has some of their front page stories and links back to the 2012/13 season. I went there just to see if my lifetime ban was still in effect. The funny thing is that you can't even currently register as a new user, because the CAPTCHA/image verification they have is no longer up to date, so there's no way to bypass that. Lip still posts there, I noticed...the White Sox history ones, mostly.
  17. How close is Lodolo (TCU LHP) to being in consideration for a Top 3-5 pick? Another month of dominant starts and high/er velocity? LHP to replace Rodon?
  18. Having grown up in the Catholic Church and serving as an altar boy, my real response would take too long and end up in the Filibuster, ultimately.
  19. Pretty sure Eaton and Q aren't Cooperstown bound, but the point still stands...not to mention Frazier/Robertson/Kahnle.
  20. It’s only because Hahn was such an expert contract negotiator that we were in a position to rebuild in the first place, lol...
  21. Maybe you should go back to LA LA LAND where we own the AL Central for 5-7 years...it’s like we are being forced to join up with Jim Jones in Guyana despite all evidence to the contrary, Jim Jones Has No Clothes. I get that it’s a lot more fun to be optimistic...and this might be the only time left before the games really count, but if they really cared about the fans more than the bottom line and “risk mitigation,” they could have solved this problem by signing Machado or Harper.
  22. Jimenez with a gift double...Eucker arguing that Stokes should have caught it. Adolfo in as PR for Jimenez. 6-2. Mendick up. Nelson k’s the side with 91-92 and his curve...huge step in his comeback, apparently.
  23. Many argued that Giolito was all set to dominate based on how well he looked at the end of 2017 and with increased velocity in ST 2018.
