  1. Not to mention one of Fulmer, Lopez, Giolito, Kopech and Hansen, if not two. Maybe Adams amps up his velocity in short bursts, etc. Still need a dominant lefty like a Radinsky, Cotts in 2005, Marte, Thornton.
  2. Guess we need to send that SoxTalk scouting crew to do an investigation of Luis Robert instead...
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) Cmon. If Spirit is a carrier, some people are going to fly it and expect the planes to show up, etc. Some smaller airlines were known for their great service, like that one that gave out the warm cookie, I forget which one that was. Just cause the company is small and upstart doesn't mean the customer should expect s*** service. Midwest Express
  4. Familia really blew up today in the 9th. Probably a lost cause this season, with Harvey likely to be dumped and Cespedes battling health issues. Granderson might be done, has had a good career.
  5. Taylor, you're free to make up your own thread. That's generally how websites work. 70-80% of threads won't go anywhere, and maybe 20-30% will be worthwhile. And the conversation finally shifted to my original purpose, which I certainly could have accomplished without making a list of players and just written a generic sentence or two. But hot takes are more fun, right? I did that with Giolito this week in the minor league thread, sometimes there needs to be a devil's advocate when everything gets a little too one-sided around here.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) I was in favor of his free college education for all. College kids debt sucks especially when so many degrees assure nothing in the workplace. Tax wall street for free college was brilliant idea. I was in favor of raising the minimum wage. He basically was at war with the 1 percenters. I like that. He wanted marijuana legalized. I like that. He didn't like the way campaigns were funded. I like his theories on health care. And yes superfically I did "feel the bern." Hey not everybody is an issues person. You can "feel it" as well. As far as Republicans I've always liked the way they handle foreign policy and the economy. And I feel Reagan is god, small g. p.s. Jimmy Carter today says he voted for Bernie Sanders. Maybe greg wasn't so wrong. Hmmmmm. You're 60-75% Democrat. Please note how well the stock market did under Clinton and Obama vs. the Bushes. Nobody in America would ever be able to retire on gains during Republican administrations. And supply side economics....cutting taxes for the rich and corporations, has never worked anywhere. Reagan tried to destroy labor unions, a movement that certainly continues today in Republican orthodoxy. Bernie's diametrically opposed to GOP on most tax and trade policies. Unless you're agreeing with Trump in NAFTA and TPP, but then Trump's not really a Republican anymore than you are. 98% of the GOP disagrees on Trump's trade policy.
  7. Single payer health care, Medicare for all. Less US intervention in foreign policy or general disinterest in being global policeman, more like Trump's original position. Support for labor/middle class vs. corporations. Against TPP and NAFTA. Free or highly subsidized universal college tuition. Breaking up big Wall Street banks, separation from investment and commercial banks, stronger regulations, etc.
  8. Swanson's season so far is making Tim Anderson look almost decent in comparison. That one is an enigma.
  9. Since everyone in this thread is so bored, you can analyze on your own how fast Luis Robert is...and hopefully his name won't be added to the list in the next month.

  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 10, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) With every Democrat in the damn country looking at that angle, and nothing to show for it yet, you still gonna ride that horse? Dianne Feinstein said there is nothing there, and she hates Trump more than you. And f*** your call for an independent counsel. Every time a Republican sneezes funny you Dems scream for an 'independent counsel'. Hillary didn't get one, this doesn't get one. Move on. I WIL agree with you, however, that if he tries to appoint someone not qualified it will be headaches all around. He can be hated by the dems, but still has to be qualified. Not so fast. Top Judiciary Democrat: "It was clear the FBI was taking its job seriously" "It was clear the FBI was taking its job seriously, and a substantial investigation was underway," Sen. Dianne Feinstein said, referring to the Russia investigation. Feinstein called on a special prosecutor to oversee the Russia probe. She added that, at a minimum, the timing of Comey's firing "could implicate" the administration. CNN.com
  12. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/09/politics/who...omey/index.html Six candidates for FBI Director, three will start a Senate war
  13. Picking a silly Twitter war with Richard Blumenthal...a surefire way to improve Senate relations. Especially looking at Trump's military record or lack thereof. He might not get a single Democratic vote for months now. Not until September. And retweeting The Drudge Report's hit piece on Comey, class personified.
  14. I'm not sure Leona Helmsley and FRED Trump could be much worse in terms of taking care of the poor, huddled masses than Donald Trump so far. Clinton was a typical "mend but don't end government" Democrat with a hawkish take on foreign policy and pretty much Democratic Party boilerplate on economic issues (see did flip flop on the TPP when the pressure became too great).
  15. Well, I also meant the "bullets missed," like signing Gordon or trading for Carlos Gonzalez.
  16. Rockraines forgot a big one: DEATH PANELS!!! WASHINGTON TECHNOCRATS DECIDING YOUR CARE!!! AYN RAND/ATLAS SHRUGGED!!! BENGHAZI! AT LEAST WE BOMBED THE HECK OUT OF THAT AIRPORT (AND DELAYED SYRIAN PLANES FROM LAUNCHING ATTACKS ON THEIR PEOPLE FOR 18 HOURS), PLUS OBAMA bin Laden WAS A P---Y!!! Now we'll have "state capitol bureaucrats" deciding to reallocate your health care block grant to their own pet projects. But at least they're LOCAL choices, right? And they always have their neighbor's welfare in mind, follow the Golden Rule, etc.
  17. Since there's unlikely to be any Jose Quintana trade talk for at least another month, here's a place to discuss those prospects or current major leaguers who MIGHT have been traded for Q but weren't...threw out a few names to get the discussion started about position players. Austin Meadows Josh Bell Gleyber Torres Cody Bellinger Rafael Devers Kyle Tucker Anthony Benintendi Dansby Swanson Aaron Judge (although realistically, he wasn't on many lists) Alex Bregman Michael Conforto Blackmon/Dickerson Will Myers Joey Gallo Kolten Wong Ender Inciarte Rougned Odor Nomar Mazara Carlos Gonzalez Alex Gordon
  18. https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrats-appeal...-002656170.html Speaking of dumber, how about Chris Christie or Rudy Giuliani as head of the FBI?
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2017 -> 08:44 PM) Do you think baseball is getting boring with more and more horrible teams? Is baseball near a hitting crisis? I have the Royals game on TV here and the Sox on the computer and Perez slashed a ball right up the middle. DP because of the shift. Players won't even try to beat the shift. Greg, homers are WAY up in baseball this year. The problem's not offense, it's your perception, because the White Sox and Royals are terrible offensively. It's like taking a point about the Big 12 in football or basketball and attempting to extrapolate it to the rest of the country. Be careful about your bias. As far as "terrible" teams, there's simply a lot of parity, a few days ago 18 out of 30 teams were between +3 and -3. MLB is happy, the Yankees are on the upswing with a potential marketable star in Aaron Judge, the Cubs are the Cubs, the Red Sox are competitive, the Dodgers will be in the playoffs again...the only issues are resolving the stadium problems in TB/St. Petersburg, Oakland and what happens with the Marlins' franchise.
  20. They're getting to the point where the DEMS in the House and Senate are going to refuse outright to participate in Congress until something is done about this situation that puts it back into the plausible realm of bi-partisanship. As much as Obama is blamed for tearing the country apart and increasing divisions, this takes the cake.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ May 9, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) Pretty sure you were alive for Strom Thurmon and Jesse Helms. At least those guys had interesting relationships with "the lady folk." Grassley just isn't that smart, and he's about as exciting as watching Krylon paint dry. Not even informing Comey in a civil way (like anyone else would, except for Trump/Bannon) is going to be used as evidence that the firing took place in a "vindictive/revenge-minded" set of circumstances. The irony is they thought they'd have cover because of the Hillary e-mail stuff (most Dems except Reddy are over it by now)...but that just turned out to exacerbate the situation since that factor is being completely ignored by almost everyone who grew up in a "Wag the Dog" political universe (which really started with the Nixon White House). Where are/were Jared and Ivanka when all this went down? Out of town?
  22. Not sure how long the Willy Garcia CF experiment is going to last. About as long as the Avi Garcia CF theoretical one did. Finally feels like 2016 again...both times, around the 31-33 game mark in the season. At least we had the nice tease to start out.
  23. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 9, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) Today in liberal hypocrisy. Dems demanding Comey resign after losing the election (bigly) Today, dems upset that Trump fired Comey lol. Cant even make this stuff up anymore. He certainly has the right to fire Comey, even though his contract ran through 2023. What will cause a problem for EVERYONE, will be if he tries to jam his own "pet" candidate through the Judiciary Committee...that will cause headaches for Republicans and Dems alike. The fact of the matter is that even "reasonable" Republicans are starting to question whether there might actually be some fire to go along with all that smoke over the last 9-10 months about the Russia interventions in the presidential election. That's not going away, especially if an independent special counsel isn't named.
  24. Well, .500 and above was fun while it lasted. Another irony is that the White Sox are contributing further to making Hector Santiago an even more enticing trade target at the deadline.
  25. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/09/c...a-senate-238187 Is This A Constitutional Crisis? 9 Legal Opinions from across the political spectrum. Scary thought that perhaps the worst senator of my lifetime, Chuck Grassley, will be in charge of the next dog and pony act when Trump nominates a successor to Comey. That's in no way reassuring.
