  1. Has anyone ever figured out why Adams' velocity never picked up? Just too optimistic originally based on frame, athleticism and scouts' projections? Danny Hayes just hit a three run bomb, his sixth homer. 7-3 Knights. Kevan Smith has been red hot, too, but doesn't seem to translate at the next level for him.
  2. Just sign Doug Fister to the minimum contract (with fair incentives based on number of starts) and flip him to a contender if he can still pitch. That would be the easiest thing to do.
  3. Someone just bid $2060 on the Moncada charity jersey auction for the Knights. Special pink jersey for Mother's Day/cancer funds. Fulmer and Giolito are low $500's. Bidding ends middle of seventh.
  4. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:22 PM) Just to clarify, I meant that Matt Cooper is not a top prospect in the sense that he is not ranked at the top of prospect lists and not at an age-appropriate level, and should therefore be exempt from service time concerns, not that I don't think he's a legit prospect. I think he'll be a quality major-league starter. Maybe he gets on a run...any of those guys, Cooper, Guerrero, Danish. More than likely, they end up bullpen guys, but it's not going to destroy their careers to give them 2-3 start auditions just to see what happens. You're still looking at a line of Lopez, Fulmer, Giolito, Kopech, Adams, Dunning and Hansen stacked ahead of them.
  5. Zastryzny...Harry Caray would love that name out of the Cubs' pen. And Reynaldo Lopez with an interesting stat line tonight, essentially a quality start.
  6. Purke in after Lopez hit a batter. Saved two inherited runners from scoring with a 3-2 curveball for the k. Reynaldo, Over 100 pitches and couldn't get through six. Only two earned runs, 7 k's, but 5 walks.
  7. It would take 4-6 weeks before Swarzak could pitch more than 3. This all would make some sense if he wasn't going to be a free agent at the end of the year...but his value to the team and trade is better suited exactly where he's at.
  8. The least he can do is protect the bullpen without demoralizing everyone and making most feel sorry for his predicament. This can't last much longer. They might as well start Ynoa until his arm falls off.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 6, 2017 -> 06:13 PM) Covey has a purpose and it's to delay calling up our important prospects before they're ready. I honestly think some posters here don't realize we're rebuilding. Who exactly would you like to see up instead of Covey? Doug Fister or Tyler Danish.
  10. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 6, 2017 -> 06:13 PM) Danks? And I dont feel bad for him. Dude has guaranteed a major league roster spot, and he's making millions. Shouldn't be playing in the majors. Time to end the experiment. Results have been proven to be the same over and over again. Covey is making about $3000 for every day he's on the roster...
  11. Dangal, about the first woman in India to ever get a gold medal in international wrestling competition, is an excellent film. Disney even co-produced. Aamir Khan, one of the the most versatile actors in the world today, stars as her coach/mentor/father. He must have gained 40-50 pounds for this one. As with all Indian productions, it runs almost 2:30, but it's worth watching. It even debuted in China this weekend (came out around Christmas), which is highly unusual for Bollywood films to ever make it in this market.
  12. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 5, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) I liked Guardians 2. If you liked the first, you'll probably like this variation too. I can understand where some of the criticism is happening but I still think it's a good movie. It reminds me of a typical tv show, where they keep delaying the StarLord/Gamora hookup for 3-4 seasons to sustain interest. Or do the comics tell a different tale? I guess the expectations were relatively low for the first one, so the opposite principle is at work now. I also read another site where there was an 89% approval at Flixster and A at Cinemascore. Interestingly, Metacritic is much lower at 67%, which is closer to where I would place it. Boxoffice.com originally forecast $160 million and it will end up closer to $135-140. Here in China, it's heading for $40 million, compared to the nearly $200 million mark for Furious 8 in three days plus late Thursday shows.

  15. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-he...gop-incumbents/ AHCA bill could be a job killer for GOP incumbents Republicans put their careers on the line for the wrong bill The New York Republican, one of Donald Trump’s most consistent allies in Congress, said his staff read the legislation, the text of which was made available less than a day before the vote. The article added, “Told by a Buffalo News reporter that the state’s largest loss of federal funds under the bill would be $3 billion annually that goes to the state’s Essential Health Plan, Collins said: ‘Explain that to me.’” Asked specifically if he was aware his party’s American Health Care Act cuts funding to his home state’s Essential Plan, the two-term congressman said he was not. Sometimes, you can anticipate the basis for an attack ad before the campaign even begins. (Collins’ office later said the New York lawmaker was “intimately involved in the creation of this legislation from its inception.” Given the effects of the bill, that may not be a boast worth making.) http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/re...ng-bill?ref=yfp https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news...macare/?ref=yfp A huge section of the AHCA isn't about ObamaCare, it's about crippling Medicaid How did a sweeping reform to the Medicaid program make it into a bill that is ostensibly about Obamacare? For Republicans, changing how Medicaid is financed has long been a chief priority, aside from undoing Obama's reforms. At a conference in March, Rep. Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.), the speaker of the House, joked with Rich Lowry, editor of the conservative National Review, about how the two of them had been planning to limit federal Medicaid spending since partying together as much younger men. “We've been dreaming of this since I've been around — since you and I were drinking at a keg,” Ryan said.
  16. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...-profile-215102 Will Hurd is the future of the GOP...seems like the kind of politician America needs a lot more of, on both sides of the aisle. CIA operative for a decade before running for Congress in Texas as a black man in 70% Hispanic district. Justin Amash (MI) another, but even he eventually voted for the second AHCA after opposing the first. At a roundtable with local officials in Monahans, Hurd emphasizes, as he does everywhere, that border security is a priority—but adds that building a wall is the “most expensive and least effective” way to achieve it. He strikes a disapproving tone on the Affordable Care Act, but tells them to “forget about the labels” of “repeal and replace” and says the only things he cares about are increasing access and decreasing costs. (It came as little surprise nearly three weeks later when he voted against Ryan’s legislation; Hurd staffers told me that day the office got hundreds of phone calls and only one was in favor.) And when asked about recent foreign policy developments, Hurd says he supported Trump’s missile strike in Syria—but speaks in cautionary tones about any American military intervention, especially on the Korean Peninsula, warning that North Korea has “the largest special forces in the world” and a leader who possesses “the capability and willingness to kill millions of people” across the border in South Korea.
  17. Pretty much expected another two run single to take back the lead. Caught looking with a fastball there.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Why not give Swarzak whole inning? Easily worst inning Renteria has had Especially when trailing 2-1. It might have been different if Machado reached. Oh well.
  19. Up to .350. Wow. Hot again.
  20. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/05/opinions/hea...ovic/index.html The White Guys are back in charge It's very simple. Lots of pundits are predicting the tide shifts and we essentially have "Medicare for All," within seven years from now. The opposite would be pre-ACA, more free market/private-based with the bottom 60% of the country suffering or dying. Trump holds the presidency again, the rich and elite win...and the system gets stacked against everyone else.
  21. Okay, better to not talk about Sox pitching, even Dunning.
  22. When the perception is that some Scoutmasters joined because of their sexual proclivities and a number of abuse stories came out, it almost had the same devastating effect as on the Catholic Church. Think Sandusky's charity at PSU. It was an excuse to get near the boys, shrouded in the goodness of helping them. That's the worst part, taking advantage of those who assume the best about a person's motivations and get lulled into a false sense of security.
  23. Luebke started for CHA. Looks like Hansen's doing really well so far... 4/0//0/1/5 Riley Pint for the Tourists.
