  1. More worried about Frazier...but oh well, what can Hahn do now? At least Robertson is off to a good start.
  2. Hillary Clinton is done. http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/04/ple...s-doing?ref=yfp Please God, Stop Chelsea Clinton From Whatever She's Doing And Bernie Sanders wouldn't be able to change much of anything without control of Congress as well. And the Trump administration (maybe The Donald himself) just produced one of the most amazing videos of all-time. Hard not to tear watching the Fearless Leader with George Washington in the backdrop. Truly inspiring! https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-stuns-twit...-211654674.html
  3. Looks like Rondo tried to trip Crowder from the bench as he walked by after hitting jumper.
  4. Which also means three more Covey starts, unless they replace him with Danish.
  5. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20170421 Two more Moncada K's. Close to 40% k rate....last year it was much lower (124/405), but more experienced pitchers in AAA. W Garcia and Liriano doing some damage. Finally, old friend JB Shuck making an appearance for the opposition. Mason Robbins 1st homer for Barons.
  6. http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/21/politics/rus...rate/index.html Russia tried to use Trump advisers to infiltrate the campaign. Meanwhile, Trump planning magic trick of health care, tax reform and preventing government shutdown in less than one week. If both fail and the Dems refuse to compromise over the Wall with Mexico, those 100 day articles will not be pretty. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...ent-ever-215063 How Trump Succeeds Without Actually Succeeding
  7. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) All of the successful int'l FAs cited here were either veteran players (Ramirez, Abreu) or were not highly-regarded by the industry (Viciedo). All of the highly-desired and young int'l FAs that involved a competitve process to sign (Soler, Tanaka) ended up signing elsewhere. Given that Robert seems to be the latter type of int'l FA (young, highly-regarded, and with many suitors), I expect Robert to sign elsewhere. I don't believe it is a "cheapness" issue, so much as it is a risk-averse issue. And no where have I posted otherwise. I'll guess the "we tried to sign Robert, but look at the other guys we signed" press conference will be on June 15th. Try again with your Viciedo comment... https://www.yahoo.com/news/viciedo-delightf...00539--mlb.html
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) God help that there are people interested in Justice out there. You realize you're defending a guy who used women as a shield, struck someone with blunt force and then ran away right? If they commit violent crimes on camera yes, find their names and hold them accountable. He's trying to use DA's faulty argument that I only cared about that violent ANTFIA woman because she was a porn actress and not because she was a criminal. They use republican stereotypes on me even though republicans would never have me on account of my social views. Can't disrupt the narrative though. What is a Republican these days? Any progressive social views would simply put you into the Kushner/Ivanka/Cohn/Dina Powell camp for now. The reasonable side to Trump's coarseness. It's a huge tent. Well, unless you're Tomi Lahren, but she fell on her own sword to get free of Glenn Beck.

  11. Mission Accomplished. http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/21/politics/tru...days/index.html Another major flip flop on first 100 days in office timeframe http://theweek.com/speedreads/693812/heres...one-almost-none President Donald Trump says businesses and individuals will receive a "massive tax cut" under a tax reform package he plans to unveil next week. In an interview with The Associated Press, Trump says the plan will result in tax cuts for both individuals and businesses. He would not provide details of the plan, saying only that the tax cuts will be "bigger I believe than any tax cut ever." The president says the package will be released on "Wednesday or shortly thereafter" — just before his 100 day mark in office. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin initially set a goal of getting tax reform passed by August, but that deadline has slipped. Mnuchin now says the administration still hoped to get a bill passed well before the end of the year. https://www.yahoo.com/tech/trump-says-relea...-175555919.html Good comment/reply at bottom I wouldn't want a tax break if it meant a crumbling infrastructure, unaffordable private schools, inefficient and expensive healthcare, multi-trillion dollar wars, starving poor people, and polluted air, water, and land. Just use my taxes for stuff that makes life better for everyone, and I'll be happy. I make 80,000 a year, and I live OK. I want other people to live securely as well, but I know many are truly disadvantaged and need basic help. I believe what Jesus taught, and I'm willing to give up some of my material bounty so others might have a better life. I've helped people in my 61 years, and they did right by it, and helped others.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 07:46 AM) Eh. He is still a teacher, and not a Trump fan, who committed violence. And planned on more, as they dug up records of him receiving from Amazon the day before over a dozen of the bike locks he used to hit that guy. pretty sure he passed them out among his 'friends'. For peaceful purposes, no doubt. As for those alt-rights you are complaining about, ask judge Bork how he fells about having his past drug up? Don't act like this is new. There's a big difference between Bork's time and today...just look at the example of the Reasonable Sweater guy Ken at the presidential debates. How could anyone have access to his Amazon.com account? Who is they? Should we go through the records of all the pro-Trump protesters who brought knives or brass knuckles, too? Those with permits for handguns?
  13. https://21southnews.com/2017/04/21/who-is-e...sorericclanton/ Reddit lies, lol. He's NOT a professor at SF State. He got his MA there. He's an adjunct professor at Diablo State. At any rate, God help anyone with social media in the future. These guys are contacting all the universities he studied at, going through his LinkedIn, just hope that nobody gets on the wrong side of those alt-righters. One of the student from DiabloValley College says that “He notice, Professor Clanton is a dislike Donal Trump and he would involve 2016 Election result protests in Bekeley or San Francisco elsewhere, but couldn’t confirmed. We call again to DVC and asking Professor but no one give answer and refuse to further question. And some people call DVC but they do not respond about Professor Clanton to anyone.

  15. http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/polit...are-compromise/ House Republicans have a "new" plan to make your healthcare even worse In exchange for that conservative concession (opting out of "community rating," which would wipe out the protections for preexisting conditions), the amendment would reinstate the Essential Health Benefits that were already taken out of the bill ― though, again, states could waive those provisions as well if they were able to show that doing so would lower premiums, increase the number of people insured, or "advance another benefit to the public interest in the state." Gee, I wonder what, say, Scott Walker or Rick Scott will make of that. In short, in order to pass a bill that failed because it was too harsh and people hated it, the House is proposing a bill that is even harsher and that more people will hate even more. But, once again, to treat this proposal as an actual healthcare proposal is to make the same mistake all over again. The previous dead fish was actually a tax-cut bill. This one is designed to give the president* something—anything!—he can call a "win." It doesn't matter that this latest attempt has no chance of becoming law; there is no chance of its ever passing the Senate. Give the president* a win. Give him something he can call a win. Give him something that they will call a win on his favorite television programs. Thus is the entire business of the American republic reduced to the late Kim Jong-il's golf score (38 under par 34, including 5 aces, look it up!!!). The next general congressional recess is right around Memorial Day. Start lining up for those town halls today. Avoid the rush.
  16. Who would have predicted a month or two ago the Bulls and Blackhawks would be reversing roles in 1 vs. 8 seed battles? Wacky.
  17. The one protection United has is being an oligopoly, essentially....along with their alliance partners. There's no longer significant differentiation in pricing among the three major carrier groups. It's not like Chipotle or Wells Fargo, where customers have choices numbering in the teens or hundreds in the case of restaurants. The test will be when customers are booking at kayak and travelocity and expedia and orbitz and the United Flights are coming up $25-50 USD cheaper...how many are going to choose that more expensive option in reaction to this situation? We've seen lots of comments here in China, and lots of "pledges" about never flying United again after this situation, let's see what happens when the rubber hits the road in terms of economic vs. social conscience-based decision-making. United Airlines Is Now Asking Passengers at Check-In If They’re OK Being Bumped for $200 https://www.yahoo.com/news/united-airlines-...-200426898.html https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/af82ac74-d4ed-...99-turn-to.html And now United's going to have to deal with Congressional hearings as well

  19. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/04/20/c...protests-237424 How Berkeley became a hotbed for protests (and it looks like the Coulter speech next week is back on) http://www.sfgate.com/education/article/UC...to-11087363.php Correction, Coulter says she's coming anyway next Thursday, university offered to move to May 2nd, when apparently there are no classes scheduled Disappointed with City of Berkeley and CAL (free speech rights should always be protected) http://www.sfgate.com/opinion/article/Some...he-11087274.php
  20. Joe Lieberman, the one that's easiest to hate. But yeah, this whole Clinton/Perez wing vs. Sanders/Ellison split still hasn't been resolved. It might not happen until the 2020 presidential election, depending on who the eventual nominee is for the Dems.
  21. The precedents of outspending markets exist for Albert Belle, Joe Borchard, Viciedo and Abreu (although every MLB team wasn't looking 1B that off-season, including most of the big spenders). Dunn and Robertson would be other examples for DH's and relievers. It does make sense with our long history with Cuban players, not to mention the presence of Abreu, Moncada and even Rodon's family background. That said, like MOST of the time we've been excited about acquiring a player or a potential trade, will only believe it when I see it.
  22. So do they bring up Danish or Pelfrey when Covey is inevitably reassigned?
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 07:11 PM) I thought we were talking about the "media"? (Is Jeff Sessions media now?) But as far your Jeff Sessions tangent, I'd be more upset with Hillary Clinton "referring" to black people as super predators (and refusing to apologize for it (and forcing her people to remove the BLM person who posed the "question)") then I would be upset about Jeff Sessions inferring a strategic state (that's 3,000 miles away from the mainland) are less American. (Also, why is their "average net worth" relevant to your tangent?) Do you only judge people based off of their "money"? Are you implying that "Hawaiians" are more American than other American groups because they have a higher average net worth? If we're going by the original interpretations of the US Constitution, that's exactly how the Founding Fathers viewed this argument (based on property rights/net worth wasn't even a real thing back then). For a US senator to believe Alaskans and Hawaiians are lesser because they're not part of the contiguous US is pretty bizarre. https://twitter.com/maziehirono/status/8552...n.d8c8a26f.html Not to mention he voted yea for the judge (Watson) he's now criticizing. As far as Hillary Clinton goes, I never supported her and won't defend her. That said, it was a different time, where Democrats had their backs against the wall because of the tactics that Republicans used consistently throughout the 80's and early 90's to argue they were "soft" on crime. You are too young to remember, but watch the ads the Bush campaign ran against Mike Dukakis featuring a felon named Willie Horton who was furloughed and killed again after being released. Clinton was simply being a typical politician of that time period, and picking on easy targets (the poor/minorities) who had no other choice but to vote for Democrats. (It can also be noted that comments like "super predator" coming back into the public eye are one of the many factors that suppressed the African-American vote numbers for Clinton in 2016, compared to Obama in 2008 and 2012). It's the same problem that starts happening when we judge Jackson, Jefferson, Lincoln, etc., by the current lens rather than the context of the times they were operating in. In the same way, Sessions' comments that disqualified him 30 years ago are no-longer a deal breaker in this current political climate. NEVERTHELESS, Donald Trump and his defenders are going to learn that the electorate really doesn't care at all about what Obama or Hillary Clinton did or didn't do at this point in time. So far, they're 0 for 100 days on crafting any legislation that has improved the lives of everyday middle class Americans. We won't know for another 10-20 years, but the regulations that Trump is wiping out are increasing negative externalities in the environment which we can't even begin to quantify in terms of the cost trade off with attempting to bring back obsolete jobs to the economy.
  24. Jason Vargas is off to a pretty amazing start, but doubt that holds up... Duffy has a 1.38 ERA at the moment as well. That said, as some have commented, the odds of Duffy staying in the fold have increased dramatically with his new contract. The Royals are kind of stuck in the middle, with big deals for Kennedy, Gordon, Soria, Salvy Perez, etc., on the books when for a long time it looked like they would completely rebuild. Not sure it wouldn't have been better to deal Perez at peak value before he started wearing down, but teams that have won a World Series tend to hold onto those players (see Jose Contreras) a lot longer out of sentimental value to the fans. And of course Perez is arguably the 2nd or 3rd best catcher in baseball (overall) depending on your feelings about Mr. Sanchez.
