June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
We've been waiting to have a team leader out of the catching position ever since AJ left. STILL WAITING. (Hopefully Collins is the man.)

YUGE RBI there for Abreu... Let's hope Robertson has his good stuff tonight, if Kanhle can negotiate the 8th successfully. Going at Garcia up and in....then pounding him low and away, got him with slider.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
Hope Arrieta can get his ERA below 4. Still doubt Epstein's stupid enough to give him the long-term "Contreras contract" as a thank you...and this would be a lot more money than that one, even adjusted for inflation.

6/6 Games
QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) Definitely get acquainted with Bernardo Flores. Good sleeper pick. Hickman could be interesting, haven't read reports on the stuff, old for his level but lost two years to TJ, so that would make sense. Hickman was a staple in the Hawkeyes’ starting rotation this season, finishing at 9-2 and posting an ERA of 2.99 in 16 starts. Previously, the junior had been a two-way player (catcher as well) before switching solely into a pitching role in 2014. He started five games and appeared in 12 more that season, finishing with a 3.93 ERA. Hickman’s other hometown team, the Cubs, originally drafted him as a catcher in 2012 in round 20. But as he made the switch to the mound, scouts became intrigued by his big frame (220 lbs.) and his potential as a power pitcher, especially after he topped out at 96 mph. However, this spring the interest dropped slightly, as Hickman failed to keep his velocity late in games and struggled controlling his breaking ball. Even so, his physical ability gives him the potential to move up the minor league system of the White Sox, and a chance to play professional ball for the city he grew up in. dailyiowan.com

Remember when Longoria looked like a potential HoFer at 3B? He's been there ten years now. 2008 playoff series seems ages ago. Except that stupid Balfour nonsense with Orlando Cabrera.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
But the White House is far from enthusiastic about the public spectacle that’s shaping up. Several White House officials noted with frustration the countdown clocks that have been on TV this week before the testimony. "It's like nothing else matters this week," one Republican close to the White House said. "I think they feel like they are just waiting and waiting and waiting and have no control." Forgot about Cooper...the other ones, not so familiar with. As far as Hickman goes, there was a lot of talk in the Midwest that he could go in the second round (or even late first) at one point during that draft season. He obviously fell (later).

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) Hawk actually made a good point that this year Avi isn't missing his pitches. Obviously difficult to say what's changed but his bat is certainly quicker. Maybe the weight loss and concentration of "fast twitch" muscular development, rather than sheer bulk/power.

Avi .335/927 OPS Davidson still over a 800 OPS despite all the K's, 255/814 Frazier, Cabrera and Anderson separated by 17 OPS points Of those who have watched all the games so far, how many errors would Tim Anderson still have with Keith Hernandez at 1B?

6/6 Games
With Stephens, Guerrero, Adams, Danish, Hickman...we're starting to have the makings of an impressive bottom 10+ in starting pitching depth. 1. Kopech 2. Lopez 3. Giolioto 4. Hansen 5. Fulmer 6. Dunning 7. Stephens 8. Adams (8/9 could be flip-flopped) 9. Guerrero 10. Hickman (I know this is a reach, but have to root for a TJ kid from Chicago Public Schools who ends up at Iowa for baseball of all places). 11. Danish 12. Pineda (haha, well, just because of his family connection)

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) Did Swarzak die? Overworked? Maybe he has a physical problem we don't know about...? For ONE moment, Renteria looks like a genius. Q escapes with his 5.30 ERA intact. 114 laborious pitches.

June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Seriously, in a meaningless game, you're managing like it's Game 7? I guess it's logical with the catcher coming up and Miller has dangerous power...but everything this week backfires, SO.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Now some random reliever will give up these two runs and Q will be demoralized again. The last week has just been a disaster of epic proportions. And who is going to beat Houston with McCann and Gurriel hitting 7th and 8th? Good, god.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Pitch to Weeks was inside on pitch trax.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Done with Renteria being a part of the future. He's fine for contributing to the L column, though. 109 pitches....in a completely meaningless game. 110.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Maybe Renteria is being paid off to deliberately blow up Q's trade value by the Russians? 107 pitches, 2 more earned runs waiting to be booked for the reliever.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Still trying to get outs with that curve. Better to use cutter or change.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Hahn had better hope Chris Correa doesn't hack the Sox database from prison and release all the Q offers that were on the table... That said, Q has better stuff tonight, movement on fastball, cutter, depth on his pitches, etc. The problem is that rolling curve has never been a strikeout pitch. Yanks could use Frazier over Carter at 1b.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
5.71 era, both hits on curveballs...granted, Longoria's not exactly crushed. This particular Rays lineup just 6 for their last 40.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Rockies could use Dickerson about right now....instead of CarGo and Parra. Q with every pitch at 92, can't get outs this season with the curveball or any of his secondary pitches.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Avi chases shoulder high 98 mph fastball...that sounds familiar.
-
June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
Archer 94-96 mph out of the gate in the battle of untraded "aces" from this past offseason...two at 97 now. Great job setting the table, Yolmer. Surprised on misplay by Kiermaier, lost it in the lights. Tanaka gave up yet another run, 6.39 era.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
Or just a win or two was the difference between Rodon and Schwarber...granted, the results of 2015-16 will make that an excellent pick from a Cubs' historical perspective, even if Schwarber is worse than Avi Garcia from here on out.
