Sox at Yankees Rodon/Martin
WestEddy said the White Sox were better positioned entering this season than the Padres...I guess if the goal is saving money on payroll and avoiding the postseason, that's pretty accurate.

Sox at Yankees Rodon/Martin
Yankees have to win with combo no hitter in Toronto vs. Boston. Mets all over Cubs again.

C.Montgomery ending his season with a strong run...thankfully.

Sox at Yankees Rodon/Martin
Dodgers' 6th lefties in pen far better than Sox first Scott Banda Vesia Dreyer Kershaw and Wrobleski...

Vaunted Sox bullpen ... making its presence felt again.

Sox at Yankees Rodon/Martin
Argument for not bunting solidified. Well good thing not to bet this one so far lol. Long way to go against Yankees' offense though.

But they lost their best three players after Marte and Carroll. Naylor, Suarez, Merrill Kelly...big chunk of that team gone.

But playing for the tie on the road against Rodon so early? If the Yankees weren't just rolling over teams these last 2-3 weeks and the White Sox had absolutely nothing to lose playing for a bigger inning and getting back to the top of the lineup...

Sox at Yankees Rodon/Martin
Ongoing. All the gambling money in the world on Yankees. Bunting to set up Julks and Derek Hill against Rodon on the road? Only the White Sox.

Don't forget the Green Beret quality control/internal processes and systems guy.

Yay more 29 year old journeymen out fielders...

3-0 Tigers Guardians starters hadn't allowed more than two runs in 19 consecutive games...17-2 stretch.

Shane Smith (White Sox All Star)
Nick Martinez has arguably had the most success of the KBO guys, at least contract-wise. Kyle Hart on the Padres was a bargain budget deal this year. Not the best results.

Tigers come out swinging...two solo homers from Jones and W.Perez. 2-0 Detroit bottom 1 Montero and Paddack as the bulk Tigers' relievers for Melton ... Detroit will need a solid cushion to hold the lead until innings 7-9. "A wounded animal is the most dangerous..." Great defensive player by Perez in RF as well to rob Ramirez.

Having a bonafide closer doesn't matter until 2028 as well. And then we need to limit 2027 wins (again) since no Top Ten draft pick available for another two more years. We're successfully doubling the Astros Cubs Royals timelines in the process. Yay??? Pretty soon Colson will be on the trade block before he gets too expensive in arbitration.

I never said a thing about Teel. Hopefully he is a 4-5 fWAR catcher. Of course he has to prove that first...not have his numbers extrapolated. He will also face more difficult pitching match ups if Quero is indeed traded. The problem is that the timeline for competing has now been successfully pushed back all the way until 2028 at the earliest...remaining Sox fans are (eventually) going to get tired of all the excuses for not spending anything significant in FA. Just like they're going to get tired of not having a new stadium plan in place.

"Can't afford to waste a season" will go down with "unprecedented financial flexibility" and "you can't spend a dollar if you only have 50 cents."

Shane Smith (White Sox All Star)
"Those guys have run the gamut from Houser's ace-like presence"... GM's watched what happened with Fedde and gave Chris Getz the major league equivalent of Jacob Gonzalez in Curtis Mead. You simply can't scout players going off prospect rankings or reports from 2-3 years ago. Of course, the Sox cut their scouting department down to the bone in every direction but internationally.

Shane Smith (White Sox All Star)
No reason not to try if Grant Taylor's stuck in the bullpen...

This season has been “less awful than most”
If Schultz and Smith both looked like surefire Cy Young contenders...the sense of optimism for 2026 would be profoundly different. Even though the bullpen would still remain a big mess.

Genuine progress
Sounds like some version of success to me...the only difference is going from Sean Burke to now Shane Smith as the big hope for the coming season.

"Since June 13, the Mets are 36-53. That’s the fifth-worst record in baseball over that span, better only than a quartet of doormats: the Rockies, the Twins, the Nationals and the White Sox. The Mets have gone from NL East favorites to wild-card wanna-bes. A pitching rotation that wowed for much of April and May is the most guilty culprit." yahoo.com/sports Nope still bottom 4. Fitting Sox and Nats end up playing each other. That record (by the way) wipes out a lot of April through mid May veteran roster filler excuses.

I'm assuming you mean Teel and not Houser/Mead. We'll see how Getz spins not getting to .500 by the end of 2027. Ofc a big part of that development (talent brought in) is related to being unable to afford Garrett Crochet in the first place. He's even more valuable now than he was a year ago. Red Sox had missed the postseason in 3 of 4 seasons or 4/5 or whatever the exact statistic is. They managed to secure that generational talent while holding on to all of their best prospects other than Teel and Braden, ranked fourth and sixth in their system.

They must have felt last night was essential going into the Yamamoto match up. He's likely your NL Cy Young winner and pitching like it today. Certainly could have used one more big bat like Josh Naylor. Kind of snake bitten organization (pun intended) with the Corbin Burnes injury and trade deadline moves that look to be coming up just short.
