Here's another GM to criticize, the Astros' Dana Brown...managed to break the nine year consecutive playoff streakI Fireable offense? "Meanwhile, every single one of Houston's big free-agent signings under the current administration has blown up in its face. Josh Hader (five years, $95 million) is hurt and has posted an ERA with the Astros half a run worse than the rest of his career. Christian Walker (three years, $60 million) hit .236/.296/.410 this year, his first in Houston. José Abreu (three years, $58.5 million) was an unmitigated disaster. Rafael Montero (three years, $34.5 million) has posted a 4.81 ERA over the course of the contract and is now playing for the Tigers. The Astros once had something that worked. They have something different now, by their ownership's choice. So far, it isn't working out." yahoo sports Apparently advisor Jeff Bagwell is leading the chart away from analytics...which isn't exactly working out too well. Ofc they also had numerous significant injuries this year...and weren't eliminated until the final weekend.

Guess Manaea will get one last opportunity on Sunday...against E.Cabrera. Singer got rocked his last time out for Cincy. Comparing GM's is always a challenge. The Red Sox had previously missed the playoffs in 2022, 23 and 24, and there was a considerable amount of heat on John Henry. What did Breslow really do? Dumped Devers, traded for Crochet, watched Roman Anthony mature in his system...but moves like the Buehler signing as well as Dustin May (-0.7 fWAR) were pretty much atrocious. Giolito was a bad contract for 1 1/3rd seasons as well. If you watched the Netflix series, he (Breslow) doesn't come off very well at all...kind of an Ivy League egghead trapped in a LHPer's body. And if you're going to criticize Stearns for this year, doesn't he also get some credit for having the hottest team in baseball the last 4-6 weeks of 2024, with Jose Iglesias playing like an MVP during that time frame?? For getting the Brewers to the postseason for five out of six years against the Cubs/Cardinals? And how do we know that Murphy as manager over in MIL isn't just as impactful...subtracting the overhyped Craig Counsell? After all, the Cubs had all the bigger stars and payroll and hype comparatively, but the Brewers ran away with that division...yes?

Getz can't possibly be better than the GM with the best winning percentage since the 1950's/60's with the Sox until he actually wins something...or at least gets this franchise back over .500. And not waiting until 2028 to actually compete would help. Next it's going to be that Getz is somehow better than Stearns if the Mets miss out on the playoffs tmrw. But by which measure? Wins per $$$ spent? The Guardians Rays Brewers Marlins A's etc. are running laps around Getz by that measure.

"Some of us love our ugly step child and accentuate positive things going on while some of you decide beating the kid is necessary and then claim our positive parenting skills are delusional." Equating being child abusers to being realistic about the White Sox...well, that's a new one for me. Isn't just giving the White Sox a "participation trophy" instead of expecting a standard of excellence to be set everything that's supposedly wrong with parents today? Wanting to be friends with our kids instead of being firm and setting clearly demarcated boundaries? Unconditional support in any situation isn't always beneficial, either. Should we tolerate beating step-children if they're not our own kids biologically, lol?

Sox at Nats…….9.27.25
Well that's because they lost Laureano to a fractured finger and are now trying to figure out the best lineup for the first round next week on the fly.
-
What happened to yesterday's Nats game thread??
Is there a fanbase in the bottom 5 besides the Rockies (sort of) that's not? At the very least be like the Marlins...lowest payroll in baseball hanging close to .500 into the final week with a very young team in one of the toughest divisions in the sport.

2024: AL Central Thread
But they have been that way for the last decade or so...regardless of veteran or rookie managers like Francona and Vogt.

Sox at Nats…….9.27.25
Some players are simply much more adept at rotating positions seamlessly from a defensive standpoint. Others are better sticking to one position like Moncada or Vargas at third base.

It's going to take the Twins trading away Buxton, Lopez, Ryan, etc. Minnesota still has Lewis, Lee (hasn't lived up to prospect status yet), Keaschall, and an excellent farm system with Top 5 CFer. Woods-Richardson had a similar season to Shane Smith. I would pick them for 68-72 wins with where they currently stand. Also, calling out KW despite his team's record from 2000-2012 isn't going to get you anywhere in terms of making Getz look better. Getz might have brought the White Sox in line with the bottom 1/3rd of the major leagues in terms of organizational processes/systems. MIGHT have...

It all comes down to getting a star with that upcoming 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 draft pick. And/or Braden becoming a consistent 25-30 homer 100 rbi force in the middle of the order.

Sox at Nats…..9-26-25
Tigers blow 3-0 lead…4-3 Boston clinches postseason.

Didn't stop the jinx lol. Rangers surging over the Guardians.

Being bad means blowing an 8-1 lead to the Nationals... Being equally bad means committing four errors and giving the game right back.

Being bad doesn't = Rebuilding
It's pretty preposterous to surrender the Chicago market without any viable alternatives. Plus Ishbia's pretty well ensconced on terclast of his mansion/career in Chicagoland as well. Baseball makes a lot more money off expanding to 32 teams The only one in?favor of Sox leaving is Ricketts and 95% of Cubs' fans.

But at least they were competitive...everyone knew the Tigers were better on paper, and that team was relying on way too many rookies. 2010 was a lot of fun in the middle of that summer... Same with 2003 and 1990. You remember the years and those teams decades later, like the SouthSide Hitmen or 1983's Jerry Dybzinski/Tito Landrum. 1959 GoGo Sox or 1983's Winnin' Ugly. Those teams had genuine/authentic identities and later specially reserved places in our memories...all set to a James Earl Jones monologue. We recenot fans only got Covid Year, TLR, 2021 and finally the Field of Dreams game after waiting patiently for half a decade.

Being bad doesn't = Rebuilding
The Twins were threatened with contraction in 2001 in order to get their new stadium. What they did this past trade deadline might be almost worse than anything Reinsdorf has done. The Pohlads lost Ishbia...couldn't find another buyer at $1.6 billion with $500 million of attached debt, and just deliberately blew their franchise up. Not sure there's any recovery from that. And that about the only real current hope for the Sox...for the time being the AL Central is their greatest strength but other teams like CLE DET and KC have simply been more efficient or "luckier" like KC with Witt, Jr. That and Braden Montgomery being a highly likeable All-Star (auto correct tried to change his name to "Broken" lol).

Have to add the Marlins and now the Rockies to that basket of teams...

Being bad doesn't = Rebuilding
Two solid and very young catchers...Teel could be the best player on the team. Colson Montgomery...maybe he's a 4 fWAR player and sticks at SS? Maybe a bust in his sophomore campaign. Walter McKinven Team seems to have much better chemistry and Venable is half tolerable Speaking of another bad team. The Nationals at least have Abrams, James Wood, Dylan Crews, M.Gore and Eli Willits...which is a much stronger young core than the White Sox currently possess.

Sox at Yankees Rodon/Martin
They must have the worst statistical record for outfield play since the end of 2023...

Sox at Yankees Rodon/Martin
Playing Fletcher Julks Hill over Baldwin is an interesting choice. Granted Rodon is a tough lefty. But none of those three are future Sox players, along with Robertson, this year's DeLoach.
