Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...DlVjA2Qzpstr.97 There is the INTL Top 50 from BA. Here are the write-ups: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...gEyU6skOD5mP.97 White Sox are signing the #33, #36, and #37 prospects on Badler's list. #33 Josue Guerrero OF Dominican Republic 6-0, 185 lbs, 16 years old Vlad Guerrero's Nephew $1 million bonus Not at level of Vlad Jr. Brother of DBacks prospect Gaby Guerrero Corner OF Best tool-Power Aggressive Approach Limited athlete and runner with below average arm #36 Luis Mieses OF DR 6-4 185 L-L Big Offensive Upside Could put another 40 lbs on long, large frame Hits and Hits for power Below Average Runner Above Avg Arm $500K bonus #37 Anderson Cosma OF DR 6-4 170 L-L Same trainer as Gregory Polanco Tall, physically underdeveloped Smooth easy stroke Calm hitter, short clean swing Knack for hitting Similarities to Polanco I watched him (Gabby) play at Clinton a couple of years ago, and, other than the physical similarities, they're nothing alike (also watched Vladdy play for Albany in 1994, he made a simply incredible throw from deep RF, almost at the wall, in the SAL All-Star game that year....the runner was just cruising into 3B standing up and didn't know what hit him. Best throw I've ever seen in person.

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
Meh.... They really need to find a Korean/Japanese player again...and sign some more 21 and over Cubans who aren't in the intl. pool. We could definitely use someone of Gurriel's ability, and that fits the "resources should flow predominantly towards the big league roster" motif that has long been established.

Crain's Business Story on Attendence...
http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance It's pretty ridiculous we have four rebuilding teams ahead of us, and two of them THE worst teams in baseball. Also interesting to note is that four of the bottom five are AL teams and the Top 4 are NL teams. Not sure what, if anything, that happens to mean (except the Indians have bad fans! or is it a bad owner who completely screwed them over twice when they had the longest streak of consecutive sell-outs at Jacobs Fields in the 1990's and up through 2001, when their first rebuild happened)

Matt Davidson getting called up
No, Applebee's Topeka/Lawrence boards....then he can join the Stormchasers if he passes his probation period and doesn't lose anyone else their house in the process. Or we can send him to hang out with Adam Dunn, LaRoche and Alex Rios in their retirements. Maybe they can have a school to teach every pull happy power hitter to bunt to the opposite side against the shift...or do the 'ol Butcher Boy?

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 05:57 AM) Any random low-A arms that we're traded years ago are now warm MLB bodies and have cool nicknames? If you keep bringing up Devenski, might as well bring up Odorizzi and others. Daniel Moscow on the Hudson Junior Mints Guerra Chris The Dragon Devenski Addison Blame It on Reed (close enough to Rio, works better with Jose Rijo though) Addison Reeds and Woodwinds Joe Be My Valentine

**2016 Films Thread**
The SoxTalk demand for a Terence Malick/Knight of Cups thread is about as high as another Puig or every single All-Star on the Royals last year has been DL'ed this year thread, lol. What is the next movie coming out to be excited about?

Brexit
I've heard Hugh Grant was amenable to making himself available. And that Billy Bob Thornton was mounting an independent run in the US elections.

I personally prefer Daron Aronofsky and Werner Herzog, but that's just me. Aronofsky had that huge misfire about the Spanish exploration in the New World...w/ Hugh Jackman and I think Rachel Weisz, a bit reminiscent of The New World in terms of its feel and scope/aspirations. Have you seen DUEL, Steven Spielberg's first film with Dennis Weaver and a semi truck and unseen driver? You were right about GREEN ROOM. Midnight Special was pretty good, not sure it being in a Top 10 is a testament to that movie or how few good movies have been released yet so far this year. Obviously, most of the critical/dramatic favorites will hit from Thanksgiving onwards. It had its moments. I also have more and more appreciation for Joel Edgerton's range every time I see him in a movie.

Greg, did Alton from Midnight Special just mesmerize you with a blinding white light? Coats/Shuck/Garcia deserve scorn before any is aimed at Lawrie. He's been pretty decent. He's definitely not the primary reason we're not above a .500 club.

They could have milk products from Wisconsin, Australia/NZ, Argentina, etc., they're REALLY going to have Chinese suspect/often tainted "milk powder-derived" drinks? C'mon!!!

Brexit
And China is worse than even Europe in terms of anti-black/African prejudice. It's malicious. And they mostly think it's funny or innocuous.

2016 MLB catch all thread
Is relentless really the correct word there, lol? Surprised DA didn't also mention the Royals blowing two saves against the Cardinals and still prevailing at Busch. Resilient would be better.

Rick Hahn
Congrats to Rick Hahn for providing Robin Ventura one of the worst bullpens (minus the back end of Jones and Robertson) in recent Sox memory...at least back to 2007. 2014, if you want to go there...but nothing was expected of that team, at all.

That's a white sox winner???
Reminiscent of the infamous Jose Paniagua game against the Twins in 2003. (That was the last game that particular season we beat them, if memory serves correctly.) I really thought former Sox prospect Escobar (who kills us usually) was going to drill a line drive just barely over the fence and tie it up...well, just because we lived through the same or similar outcomes in Texas and against the Royals that three game set with 3 blown leads, including the HUGE lead in the 9th. Actually, pretty sure 90% of Sox fans had already moved on to other things and were shocked to see how close it came to actually being a tie game there in the 9th despite a 9-1 lead.

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/29/2016, Shields vs Nolasco, 7:
Wow...if anyone would have predicted at the beginning of the year that Junior Guerra would be the one we'd rue (the most) for getting away....he's currently shutting out the Dodgers in the 7th. 3.29 ERA, 7 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K's About to have a 5-1 record for a pretty so-so Brewers team.
-
Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/29/2016, Shields vs Nolasco, 7:
Yeah, not sure where Coats/Davidson would get playing time with Abreu at DH. There's no way either one can get into an offensive rhythm without playing 4-5 times per week minimum. We already know what we have with Avi and Shuck, there's no remaining mystery there. Need to send Coats back down and let him play everyday again. At any rate, as long as Saladino can hold his own offensively (low 700+ OPS), that defensively alignment in the infield is probably our best one.

Projected Top 10 Prospects Post Draft/Pre July 2
As far as Engel goes, it would be nice to see him put up an OPS challenging 800 in AAA. At the major league level, right now....he's more similar to Jackson stats-wise, but more reminiscent of Eaton in terms of physical tools. In most organizations, that would be a 4th outfielder. As long as he can have a respectable OBP, though (let's say 315-325), he could make it as a regular. More confident in him than May, tbh.

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/29/2016, Shields vs Nolasco, 7:
Throwing five straight fastballs at Anderson...not a great idea. That's one area he has an advantage, middle relievers don't have the confidence to go to their offspeed stuff consistently. Timmy with an 802 OPS without the benefit of a walk in that line. This game quickly became blowout city.
-
Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/29/2016, Shields vs Nolasco, 7:
Saladino currently at a 726 OPS. Anderson 787, Garcia still a paltry 662. Don't want to discuss Coats or Shuckster.

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/29/2016, Shields vs Nolasco, 7:
Saladino, more often than not, does something positive when he gets playing opportunities.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) Better option then Avi or not? If we had another outfielder (Jackson or trade) to replace Avi, Saladino at 3rd, Frazier at 1st and Abreu at DH would be workable. Obviously, Tyler didn't quite cut it last year at 3rd, but he seems much more comfortable/confident this year. Like he fits in more and feels like he belongs at this level, instead of trying to prove himself every time out. Of course, that arrangement would also block Morneau (eventually). As a way to get through the next week with Melky out, it's as good as anything, I suppose.
