Zack Collins agrees to deal with White Sox
Yep, it better be Schwarber/Bryant-like results to merit a 10th pick in the first round without having a position...he needs to be Evan Gattis+, not Joe Mauer (since the position change).

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/28/2016
You mean losing 16 out of their last 19 to AL Central opponents...3-16 is almost impossible to pull off and do it unintentionally.

The decision to pitch around Joe Mauer with a runner on third and two outs in the sixth inning was telling, and not just because it backfired. Granted, it did look bad, because Brian Dozier followed Mauer. Earlier in the game, Dozier homered off Poor Jose Quintana for the game’s first run, continuing a stretch of torrid hitting, especially against left-handed pitching. Choosing Dozier just didn’t seem like a markedly better play, and sure enough, Dozier ended up golfing a down-and-in curve into the White Sox bullpen for a three-run shot and a 4-0 lead. The thought was probably that Mauer generally sees Quintana well, hitting .344/.382/.531. over 34 plate appearances entering tonight, while Dozier has historically struggled. Mauer might’ve been a better bet to single, and Dozier a better bet for extra bases, and it worked out for the Sox in the worst way possible. The question then is, "Would it have been so bad to be down 2-0?" With the way the Sox swung the bats against Kyle Gibson tonight, a two-run deficit may have been the same as six runs. Quintana pitched well outside of his Dozier problems, but it didn’t matter. Gibson entered 0-5 with a 6.05 ERA, including a mediocre showing against the Sox in April. Tonight, he threw seven shutout innings, allowing just five singles and a walk while striking out a season-high seven. www.southsidesox.com

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
Burdi, Hansen and Fulmer can take the place of Robertson/Jones at a fraction of the cost. They're going to have to do something dramatic to change this team. Paying Robertson that kind of elite closer salary two years in a row on middling teams is absolutely pointless.

Rick Hahn
I hope you got a lot more back than Bradley, Jr., and Pederson. That would make our starting rotation: Rodon Shields Gonzalez Turner/Beck/Danish Fulmer/Adams/J.Stephens Alex Hansen

Baez for Nate Jones and David Robertson. Why not? Might as well help the Cubs win a World Series so about 5 years from now the city of Chicago is finally bored with it...unless they have their Braves'-like dynasty.

Preller or someone with his staff he brought over from the Rangers definitely was in on Tatis Jr. before that trade was consummated. "A guy we have seen on the international market. Good feel for the game, bigger body player at SS." - A.J. Preller on Fernando Tatis Jr. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v3297525/04...s-in-one-inning

6/28 Games
The problem is we'll never know the player Mitchell would have been before that horrific injury. He just lost all his mojo when that happened. He HAD looked looked really good up until that exact moment.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
Of course, Chicago-native and future All-Star Ben Zobrist has to bail out the Cubs with a leaping snag of a play, doubling off the runner...that's just the way this season is going.

**2016 Films Thread**
Any movie with Morgan Freeman in it, well, ALMOST any...has a decent chance of at least being watchable. That guy must be setting some kind of modern-day record for most roles over the age of 60.

Jason Benetti, new Sox home PxP
Dr. Hannibal Lecter is arguably funnier.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:54 PM) You characters are like a comedy routine. This team is 38-38 and if playing a board game or fantasy baseball would Have been torn apart at least 38 times already cause that's how we build a winner you know As opposed to trading for Jay Bruce, Arodys Vizcaino or other unnamed veteran RH reliever and Jeremy Hellickson??? That's the ONLY thing that will turn this around. But Reinsdorf will never go for it, not after the Shields move has backfired like it has. I'm not in favor of trading Sale/Q/Eaton....but I also don't have ANY faith that JR is going to trade Fulmer and invest another $12-15 million into the 2016 Chicago White Sox. Do you honestly believe he's going to authorize that, after last year at the deadline when we stood pat with a team flying along with quite a bit of momentum?

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:54 PM) Killed whatever trade value he might have had. Dude should honestly start looking for another career. He is not going to make it in the show. He will be coaching in Great Falls next season...

QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) Is this the real White Sox team? I never wanted to believe it, but I think what we see tonight is ultimately what we get. How do you lose 4-0 to the worst team in baseball, against a starter who is 0-5 with an ERA over 6? How is one of your best hitters hitting under.200? I had so much faith in this team, but after tonight, that faith really is gone. I am so tired of seeing someone get on base and the next two or three hitters doing nothing to get the guy in. So awful. All the Sox hitters tonight have a collective .470 OPS against Gibson tonight. This isn't a rare occurrence. It has been going on over almost 150 career at-bats now counting tonight's game by current Sox hitters. 5 singles, 21 outs. 7 k's. Fits the pattern exactly.

Rick Hahn
LOL. But he negotiated deals for Eaton/Q/Sale. Jose Abreu (which isn't the huge win it was in 2014/15, not for someone who gets all of his value from hitting). Trade for Eaton. That's pretty much it over almost 4 years in charge. (Some will argue we can trade Frazier/Robertson/Cabrera, but the returns won't be as overwhelming as most are hoping.) Everything else, bad to abysmal. (Was laughing at Bonifacio hitting .154 and playing OF for the Braves against Kluber tonight).

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) That is sooooooooooo 2015's excuse for the continued futility! And they would actually be able to sell it to SOME, if not for the 23 7/9ths - 10 start to the season, and a 6/7/8 game lead on the division on May 6th. They have a terrible start and follow it up with a streak to get to .500, nobody bats an eye. Business as usual. No pressure.

Greg...the Red Sox could definitely use Q or Sale. Or the Rangers. Or the Dodgers. As long as Hahn remains as GM, he won't be traded. Avi will still be in the line-up. Saladino will still be on the bench. And they don't have a contract option for Morneau next season, as far as I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So they're going to have to start over and sign a new DH in a terrible FA class unless they trade for Cargo or Bruce. 1 year/$1M (2016) signed by Chicago White Sox as a free agent 6/9/16

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:29 PM) Great, now Melky is hurt. What happened? Out of the game? Precautionary? We've also now somehow given up 14 1/2 games in the standings to CLE since May 6th. The 2005 Indians at their hottest made up 12 1/2 games on the White Sox from late July through the last 10 days of that season.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_...053/kyle-gibson Steverson's got an "out" here. Current White Sox hitters have a career .470 OPS against Kyle Gibson. Over 125 career at-bats. In some ways, this game was over before it even started.

LOL at Erik Johnson's 8.56 ERA going up against that Orioles line-up right now...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:15 PM) so you wn them to win tonight. I can assure you Caulfield does not. Because I want a team that has a realistic shot at the playoffs...failing that, the primary way this current ownership group has shown the potential to really improve the team has been Sale/Rodon/Anderson (high draft picks).
