  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 06:28 AM) 2001: 32-26 (.552) 2002: 30-24 (.556) 2003: 29-25 (.537) 2004: 31-30 (.508) 2005: 31-28 (.525) I think you mean since 2006? The early 2000 teams played over .500 ball in August/Sepetmber/October. In comparison to their records in June/July/early August (2003) and April-early August (2005), those records are quite disappointing.... 2001 is one of the few exceptions, when we started 14-29...but that team also peaked in July/August after fighting so hard to get back to the .500 mark.
  2. Of course, the White Sox will keep Danks until next August...just the other day, there was yet ather article about swapping the two, Jackson for Danks. Guess that's off the table.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Kenny is soxtalk's boogeyman If Rick Hahn was from Mexico, someone would be protesting him, too...
  4. Who can explain why almost every single White Sox team since 2000 has played poorly in August and September...? If we're not calling it momentum....either out of spring training or at the end of the year, what phrase should we use? Lack of focus, discipline, preparation, etc.? Or consistently in the first inning this year? Bad luck....umpires still hate the Sox because of Ozzie? The talent sucks but Hahn's doing a simply splendid job in a competing, theoretical universe that we just can't see with our own eyes?
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Momentum in baseball? GTFOH. Momentum is the next day's starting pitcher Then I hope you pop up and disagree every time we hear...."Well, the White Sox could have made a legitimate run at the second wild card....were winners of 9/12, etc., but the All-Star Break came at the most inopportune moment." At any rate, those who witnessed the Jose Paniagua disaster in 2003 might disagree about the Twins seizing momentum from that game on...that was the last victory of the season series, I think. Maybe one more win the final weekend or so when the playoff picture was already decided.
  6. Has Hahn ever actually been the "lead" guy in identifying a talent and bringing him in? Like KW, when he watched Iguchi's videos from Japan and signed him, sight unseen.
  7. Carlos Quentin also struggled with the same foot ailment....and it really sucks, the foot version of an oblique.
  8. The irony is that we're tied for the 9th pick in the first round. We can't even lose in a beneficial way. Purgatory. But seeing Davidson, Anderson, Trayce, Montas, EJ, Beck, Kevan Smith, maybe Hawkins and Danish....what's to lose? We get a better idea where they are for 2016 and improve draft position. The attendance will be brutal from here on out anyway.
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) Davidson may have been a case of poor scouting. how many scouts do the Sox have in the PCL? It didn't hurt them with Quentin, Eaton or Edwin Jackson. Just a bad decision.
  10. Giants starting to apply some pressure to the Cubs from below. Mets need another bat or two...in the same situation, almost, arrived on the scene a year early.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) Congrats greg, you were off by a single run The real question is who bet their house on the Danks start? That would have taken major cojones. Losses in Quintana and Sale starts against KC aren't exactly shockers. And Alex Gordon's out too, so we can't really use the injury excuse, either.
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) I would dangle everyone except Rodon, Saladino and Sale Lol. Saladino on the trade market has about as much value as my expired Ant-Man ticket stub. He should be a decent utility player, although we've already needlessly spent $6+ million on that spot with a negative return on investment.
  13. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) What's the difference between pitching Sale the DH and today? Robin is completely different than Ozzie. We all know that. It doesn't mean he doesn't care. He isn't going to embarrass himself the way Ozzie did at times. You can bash Robin for pitching Danks in the DH but he won. He pitches well against the Royals. We have Sale today, and if Shark pitched like he should have and won Friday then we'd be talking about taking 3 of 4 today with Sale pitching. Made me think back to Manuel and the time he skipped Buehrle when we could have swept the Yankees...I think it was on the road, too. Cotts of course got bombed and the forward momentum was emergency-braked.
  14. Who can they trade other than Samardzija? Bonifacio, Beckham and a couple of relievers for spare parts. I suppose they could dump Alexei and put Saladino there, but what fans will buy them competing for anything next year with Sanchez/Saladino up the middle, no 3b, Avi and Flowers starting?
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Hosmer, Infante, and Escobar killed us defensively. And what did you expect? Even the guys coming off the bench like Dyson and Orlando can play some def, too.
  16. Can't beat your division rivals at home in front of the 2005 champs, time to start planning for next season. It was entertaining there at least for two weeks. Back to normal again. What are we now, 16-28 against the Central? Hopefully there are wholesale changes before next season. If we hear about how the All-Star break killed all the team's momentum, it's going to get old in a hurry coming from Hahn. Is our franchise outlook better than Tiger Woods'? Maybe...
  17. Have you seen CarGo's contract? We wouldn't claim him even in an Alex Rios waiver wire type of deal. As far as chemistry/discipline, I'm pretty sure Ventura's not the right manager to match him with...still, on talent alone, I'd gamble and make that trade because we do have Fulmer, whoever we get for Samardzija, Montas and Erik Johnson. Offense is always going to be more the issue than pitching over the next 2-3 years.
  18. Hahn said this morning on the Score that he expected Sale to be starting on Sunday, with Rodon and the additional rest/blister issue pushed back to next week. Some dudes were calling in crucifying the Sox for not starting Sale today and trying to sweep the doubleheader, knowing that 2-2 probably won't do in terms of pushing them into a position where they can justify adding pieces. Did say one funny thing...that the only untouchable 23 they ever had was not Robin Ventura but someone who played for the Bulls, in response to a question about the possibility of dealing Chris Sale, and that they listen to any and all offers on every player until the point where an offer becomes too good to pass up. Really didn't seem committed one way or the other...which is understandable but not where any GM wants to be this close to the deadline. Also said they would be much less inclined to deal a player in the division (although the Avi Garcia example came up) and had no issue trading with the Cubs, as the idea of limiting your market further by not including them was counter-intuitive to the team's best interests long-term. Finally, mentioned how hard it was to both develop and compete at the same time and that rebuilding on the fly wasn't the most popular approach compared to the Cubs, Astros, Twins or big market spending teams.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 10:58 AM) Agree. It was a pretty fun movie but I don't understand how it became such a cultural phenomenon. The idea of the militarized dinosaurs is just ridiculous with the types of weapons we have right now. And I'm not sure this needs a spoiler tag but: It's like writing a critical review of the most recent Fast & the Furious movie...of course, 90% of the set action pieces are preposterous and over the top (like the runway that goes on for about 5 KM from the previous film), but that's part of the enjoyment. Nobody ever says, "that could actually happen in real life!" after a typical summer popcorn flick. As long as it's not a movie based on historical facts, it's kind of irrelevant...you just have to be in a certain mood to watch it, like Sharknado I/II. So sure, when I was watching JW and just knew the dinosaur had gotten out somehow, you just expected the military or "greedy capitalist counterpart to heroine with a hidden heart of a gold" to do something idiotic like chase after the dinosaur in a helicopter. I mean...I suppose we could have also imagined that the helo was equipped with SAM missiles instead of merely machine guns...well, that would have required us to believe that "greedy capitalist guy" would be willing to destroy his golden parachute creation. Of course, knowing the consequences of the public safety being affected by such an event, and the resulting catastrophic financial losses...and that any dino could eventually be recreated or re-imagined in the laboratory, wouldn't they have logically taken it out with a drone strike? Of course, that would have summarily ended the movie after just 45 minutes.
  20. I actually think that Rongey's become too cynical and negative, which is saying a lot...coming from my perspective. Undoubtedly a product of getting tired of being wrong whenever a "false positive" turns out to be incorrect over the last 3-4 seasons. After you've painted so many rose-colored scenarios that haven't come to fruition, you also start to believe that no matter what the team does, something will go awry. It's almost reminiscent of someone living in denial when a political campaign has been pronounced dead by the media and they're drawing handfuls instead of hundreds/thousands at events...but the strategists have to fight on anyway, because they can't realistically quit or give up. Watching the positive vibes around the Cubs and Maddon, it's impossible not to sense/feel the dichotomy in terms of the atmosphere surrounding both teams. Some fresh blood would help...in the front office/coaching staff, the broadcast booths, marketing, etc. Things have just gotten stale...at some point, you just have to move on to a new challenge.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 08:52 AM) Watched R.I.P.D. last night. It was okay. It wasn't as bad as people said. It reminded me a little of a Men In Black ripoff. 2.5 stars out of 5. Jeff Bridges is almost becoming a caricature of himself.
  22. Who's going to Ant-Man? The reviews seem pretty good/solid but not expecting too much. Rudd's an acquired taste for most...love his sarcasm but we'll see how he plays it as a superhero. Waiting for announcement of Minions 4-6.
  23. Selling just to sell is dumb. Better to see if Alexei has anything left...because replacing him via trade or free agency wont be easy. Obviously, I mean the player who at least showed up defensively this past weekend. Offensively, who knows? LaRoche and Cabrera aren't going anywhere...and they can't deal Robertson until they see what Montas can provide.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:25 AM) I turned Watchmen off after an hour. All visual style, no subtance for me. The only interesting Watchmen now belong to Harper Lee.
