QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) Tucker just blew up the mocks. And yet a lot of people were expecting it because of Preston's presence on the roster already. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 05:39 PM) Please take Cameron Minnesota. Please. Are they trying to corner the market on athletic CFers in Buxton, Hicks and Cameron? Taking Nick Gordon last year, I don't think there's any way they go another prep player. -

Jim Callis building some more severe cred again tonight. Doubt the Astros have signability issues with those picks, unlike last year. -

Rangers know what they're doing with pitching. Another boost to the Urban Youth Academy program...finally working on a consistent basis (that and the RBI program) after 15-20 years. -

Don't trust any SS's with mullets...they're more likely to end up like Stephen Drew than Robin Yount, haha. -

Just goes to show how important teams perceive the SS position to be...although some of these guys could end up at 3B or 2B. -
QUOTE (Brian26 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) How on earth does one read the original post and not know the entire point revolves around Skinner? Because the premise of the original post was based on the fact that Skinner was overachieving with the Charlotte roster. In reality, that's less important (the winning percentage of the AAA team) than most think. Next, it's realistically impossible to determine if they're overachieving vs. underachieving because AAAA/minor league veterans have a lot more (90%) to do with that result than any true/legit prospects (guys like Thompson or Micah Johnson). Basically, it's very hard to assess. Unless you work everyday with that team and can observe it from an insider's perspective, good luck speculating.

KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC
caulfield12 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There's no point in even attempting to have a discussion if it's just arguing to argue. Nobody at SoxTalk believes that the White Sox can compete for a playoff spot unless Abreu's a Top 5-7 hitter in the American League. We can quibble all we want about what impact an 800 OPS Abreu has...while a fall from 972 to 948 in the OPS department last year wasn't remarkable, it led to diminished production because homers were replaced by walks and singles/doubles. If the White Sox had a devastating line-up with 2-3 consistent RBI guys behind Abreu, they might be able to survive the power outage. At any rate, a decline of 150 OPS points with our current line-up isn't tenable in any way, shape or form. Last year, post-ASB, 29 walks and 49 K's in 234 AB's. This year, only 12 walks and 42 K's in roughly the same number of AB's. He's just not as patient as last year, and that's because he's pressing with the rest of the line-up and trying to do too much...coupled with the fact that the league has made adjustments and he has to readjust back again. -

But for the purposes of argument we actually might as well give him the benefit of the doubt and consider him to be the player of the first 3-4 months of 2014 vs. everything post 2014 ASB. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 06:38 AM) LMAO. Why in the same post you failed to mention Abreu when ripping the offense, writing there is not one offense player without major flaws, you mentioned Robertson and Sale as pitching assests? Because Abreu isn't a good defensive first baseman...unless you don't consider that a flaw. He's also a well below-average base runner. He's also behind the likes of Adam Lind, Albert Pujols, Lucas Duda and tied with Mitch Moreland in war at that position. But for the purposes of argument we actually might as well give him the benefit of the doubt and consider him to be the player of the first 3-4 months of 2014 vs. everything post 2014 ASB. If we don't, then things get really depressing. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 05:51 AM) New mock from Callis/Mayo. Callis' scenario has the Sox getting Harris. Mayo has them ending up with Fulmer. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/129269966/sh...test-mock-draft Yuck to Harris...no thanks. We might as well select Aiken, Matuella, Allard, etc., and roll the dice. Of course, Harris then goes on to be another notable exception to the McCulloch/Broadway rule and becomes another Michael Wacha.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 04:51 AM) In basically the same posts he has posted a thousand times telling us all how terrible and hopeless the White Sox situation is, he did fail to mention Jose Abreu as an asset. Of course he is the one who ripped the White Sox and KW for getting Alex Rios, yet somehow the same Alex Rios is supposedly a huge asset and a big loss when he was injured to KC. You're smart enough to figure out that Abreu belongs in the asset category. Must he be listed?...it's like a "given" in a geometry proof. (Maybe I have more NEFARIOUS, Rasputin-like qualities in not including him, even though EVERY reasonable White Sox fan knows he's one of the most important members of the organization going forward.) As for the second part, either it wasn't important when the the Royals lost Rios to a broken finger OR former White Sox prospect Paulo Orlando did an admirable job after being developed by their minor league instructors and Rusty Kuntz: Their record on that day (Rios got hurt) was 7-0. They were 22-18 with former White Sox signee Paulo Orlando and Dyson sharing the position. Since Rios returned against the Cubs, they're now 2-5. So they're 4 games over with Rios....and 4 games over with Orlando/Dyson. -

Matt Lucroy for a gang of prospects, then, makes all the sense in the world. One executive, though, described the market for a catcher as “barren.” And a view of both contenders and non-contenders seems to back up that contention. Catcher is a strong position around baseball today, full of usable pieces, and while Lucroy at the dirt-cheap $9.5 million for the next two seasons would be an upgrade over everybody not named Posey, the price might be too exorbitant for buyers. It’s a similar situation with … 2. Ryan Howard out of a Phillies uniform. Life remains in the former MVP’s bat, as his 10 home runs exemplify. Except … He’s 35 years old. And he still swings and misses more than anybody but Jimmy Paredes and Avisail Garcia. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/10-degrees--t...jNfMQRzZWMDc2M- What would it cost for Justin Upton? More than we can afford to give up from our minor league system, one would guess. -
So right now, you've got: Cueto Hamels Scott Kazmir (probably) Samardzija Aaron Harang Matt Latos Jordan Zimmermann or Doug Fister (if the Nationals really want to shake things up, but unlikely) Hisashi Iwakuma (depending on health and how the Mariners do the next month)

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:09 AM) People say he's Dillon Tate to the extreme Sounds like Tyler Kolek when you hear his physical description. Risky. Jonathan Gray (Rockies) hasn't exactly torn up the minor leagues...he was also from OU, if I remember correctly.

Now the Warriors can't even claim to have a defensive scheme that worked, however it's spun. They couldn't speed up the game with their smaller lineup because Cavaliers center Timofey Mozgov was pounding them for points inside and Tristan Thompson was grabbing 14 rebounds. And the Warriors failed to turn the game into a shooting contest. Klay Thompson went off for 34 points, but his 14 field goals represented 42 percent of the team's total. Stephen Curry was off for most of the night, shooting 5 for 23 from the field and 2 for 15 from 3-point range. The Warriors' ball movement disappeared. They average more than 300 passes per game; they had slightly more than 200 passes in Game 2, even with the extra five minutes. In eight quarters of regulation the Warriors have held the lead for only 26 minutes and 51 seconds. And this was at Oracle Arena, where the Warriors were better than anyone else in any other building this season. www.espn.com/adande Curry had 17 points against all other defenders in half court defensive sets. 0 against Dellavedova. 0/5 from 3 (0/8) overall with 4 turnovers against MD. 4/10 (2/7) from 3 and 1 turnover for the rest, 17 points.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) I hope the Sox draft Trey Cabbage, he's 6'4 180 and he has a nice left swing and strong arm. Plus hit tool. He pplays short but his future is at third: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/18765768/v130...s-third-baseman And there are infinite nickname possibilities...

If they can't select Tate/Fulmer, it seems prudent to go after an advanced hitter. CARSON FULMER Like teammate Dansby Swanson, Fulmer is also a finalist for the Golden Spikes award. The pitcher has a strong track record, but some question his mechanics. For those reasons, he’s been linked to the White Sox. The club has had success with Chris Sale and Carlos Rodon recently, and both of those pitchers fit Fulmer’s mold. He can hit the mid to high 90s with his fastball, and also features a power curve and a changeup. The changeup needs work, but some believe it can become an above average offering in the future. He gets high marks from scouts for his work ethic. (Chris Cwik) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...jNfMQRzZWMDc2M-

Congratulations Cleveland, on their first NBA Finals victory. To do it without Love or Irving on the road's pretty impressive. Looked like they were going to blow that 11 point lead in OT, and the series would ostensibly have been over before it started. Now it can at least be interesting and entertaining instead of a foregone conclusion. Klay Thompson had a nice game, too.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) I'm not a fan of mid-season changes in baseball. However, if the Sox decide to change after the season, I agree he would be a good choice. Everyone in baseball likes him as a manager. He is a good communicator and handles players well. If the White Sox come off a season so disappointing they need to fire Ventura (or he steps down), it's likely Sox fans would expect an "immediate impact" manager like a Francona or Maddon in order for them to buy into the idea of competing right away in 2016. At this point, I'm not sure whether solid choices are good enough when they have to hit a home run. It would also seem they would have to go back in the direction of a more demanding/controlling coach who's closer to a micromanager (like a Showalter, Gibson or LaRussa) than someone very loose and relaxed with the players ala Robin.
