  3. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology 2016 NCAA tourney projected by Lunardi 1) MD 2 6) Iowa 8 8) Michigan 11 3) MSU 3 7) Illinois 10 5) Purdue 4 4) Wisconsin 4 2) Indiana 2 9) Ohio State LAST 8 OUT (Ohio State and UNI) On outside looking in: Minnesota, Nebraska, NW, PSU, OSU, Rutgers Iowa State 2 seed http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball...sketball-season Iowa State at #4...can they live up to those expectations? They'll now be the favorites over KU and OU with Oubre and C.Alexander leaving for the NBA.
  4. Cody Ross is available. Tries to scrub away memories of 2012, mid-summer...and Hawk Harrelson implosions. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/04/05...mc=rss&_r=0 And looks like that Y.Tomas signing isn't going according to form. Maybe the Cuban whose value got over-inflated the most by Abreu's 2014 season.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) We're pushing out season previews for the four full-season affiliates. First up is the Charlotte Knights. Here is our preview. Meanwhile, pass the time of a White Sox off day reading about players just a step away from the majors. try "plagued by in/consistency" with Cleto Drabeck will be here, sooner rather than later...if he passes successfully through waivers, right? and we're probably well past the point of calling it "make or break" for Jared Mitchell, based on the fact Hawkins got 80-90% of his playing time, along with Engel Beltre
  6. http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la...umn.html#page=1 Many reasons to detest Angels/Arte Moreno.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 07:58 AM) Illinois fans out in full force with the officiating complaints! Nice to see. The most egregious to me was the out of bounds call. The video clearly confirmed the ball was out on Duke, but they decided there was indisputable evidence? That's when I think the replay system should be handled by some group sitting behind a bunch of monitors outside of the stadium. The refs are under a lot of pressure to get that call right and they make mistakes. Get someone else to make that call, someone that can spend 45 seconds looking at monitors. I don't see why that can't happen at some stage of the tournament. Maybe starting with weekend #2. Wisconsin got screwed, but it didn't help that they also choked the last few minutes. That's what really did them in. Next year should be interesting in the Big Ten. I think Maryland is easily the team to beat. If everyone for Indiana comes back they might be 2. OSU should be up there if the recruits gel. Wisconsin and MSU will hang around. Purdue, Illinois and Iowa are your bubble teams....again. The early preseason poll from Eamonn Brennan had it MD, Indiana....the MSU and Wisky at 24/25.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) When KC took the field the next half inning, the camera was on him yukking it up with someone during warm-ups, presumably Sox Third Base Coach. Wonder what the dialog was. Well Jirschele's (Royals' 3b coach) son plays for White Sox minor leagues...something interesting, surely.
  9. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/wisconsin-co...-041320936.html Bo Ryan's anti-officiating rants...especially on the charges/blocking, not to mention the two huge calls with Winslow (foot on the line, ball out of bounds, ruled off Koenig instead)
  10. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 11:28 PM) Players change, Managers and GM"s change, but same old s***, bunch of slow, station-to-station, flat footed right handed semi-power hitters, no one who can either run the bases or steal one, or hit with two-out, hit in the clutch or play under the slightest pressure. Same old s***. Starlin Castro falling asleep out at shortstop, as always, can't say that you came blame him, the games are so long and boring and he is such a brainless twit! Things should change with Bryant and Russell injecting some excitement into that line-up, to go along with Soler and Rizzo. Depending on whether Castro's head is in the game or not, that's a very solid core of five youngish players, not counting the likes of Alcantara, Baez, Schwarber, Almora, McKinney, etc.
  11. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Yeah that stunk. Hopefully he got that out of the way in his first game and that's it. How is the 1st base coach not just yelling at him "you're not stealing, we're down by 4. Do anything other than get picked off"? Isn't Vince Coleman the 1B coach this year? Or still D-Boston?
  12. https://www.yahoo.com/politics/on-deck-for-...5415755696.html As American/Cuban relations "normalize," Cuban to set up a similar "posting" system as they have with the Japanese and Korean professional leagues? Also, top star Gourriel says he will go (favorite team is the Yankees) to the US if he gets permission from his Cuban government.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) Josh Vitter, Felix Pie, Jake Fox, etc. are among my favorite examples. Every Cubs prospect is supposed to be the savior and it...doesn't work. Bobby Hill Brant Brown Kevin Orie Angel Guzman Corey Patterson Dwight Smith Jerome Walton Gary Scott Brooks Kieschnick Shawon Dunston (never realized potential of #1 overall pick, decent career)
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) The reality is Wisconsin may never have that good of a chance again. They werent a fluke, they could be the best team in basketball on any night. Unfortunately tonight they had to play good, they played okay. That just wasnt enough. They played very well (other than Dekker/Gasser shooting from outside) until they let Allen loose and couldn't find a single player to stop his drives to the basket.
  15. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) Loys of people overreacting, what a delightful surprise. I think it's a function of the end of spring training malaise, this loss...the seeming pattern of defensive miscues not having been addressed other than Viciedo off the roster, the continued existence of Tyler Flowers...the uncertainty about the bullpen (and that includes Zach Duke as well) and just the general "been here, done that" April feeling. They have to be at .500 or above coming out of this month or fans are going to start becoming skeptical again. OTOH, the Royals were treading water for MOST of 2014 until they caught fire the final two months or so. The same thing could happen if we switch out Rodon for Danks/Noesi, and have a good chance at putting together some extended winning streaks. And, that said, it's putting a LOT of pressure on a rookie to come in as a savior archetype. Seems he welcomes, even craves, the challenge and spotlight though.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) Wisconsin could have played better, they didnt. Tough game to lose but they didnt play that well on offense. Dekker and Gasser didn't do anything from outside. Both were battling some physical problems as well, but great teams get it done. You sure thought WI had a good chance at that game up 9. Not sure how long before they'll have enough talent to get to the championship game again, Kaminsky and likely Dekker will both be gone, along with Gasser, Jackson and Dukan. Coach K now 5-6 in championship games. Would have liked to see the outcome if they called Winslow out of bounds and also the ball NOT off Koenig there at the end. Two simply huge calls. Again, though, Grayson Allen and Tyus Jones carried Duke and couldn't be denied....especially Allen scoring those 8 points in a row when the lead had stretched out to 9.
  17. 1) Winslow should have been called for a charge, initiating contact 2) Winslow was out of bounds before he threw it into Okafor for 3 point play in paint 3) Ball off Duke player's fingertips (Jefferson or Winslow) Allen and Jones clearly won this game for Duke. Wisky panicked down the stretch.

  19. On the plus side, we can back off the Samardzija for $105-120 million extension talk for at least a week.
  20. Had the feeling Wisky could pull ahead by 5-6-7 and let things get away at the end when they had some favorable match-ups with Okafor and Winslow off the court. That Allen kid's very impressive. Hadn't had a chance to see him play before this tourney. Dekker "garbage" points were huge...and were Duje and Nigel Hayes.
  21. Johnson really hung in there early against Ventura and fouled off 6-7 pitches....battled his behind off. That was impressive. When he did get on, you just have no excuse getting picked off on the 2nd throw when you were almost nabbed by the first and you're facing a 4-0 deficit against a World Series ace on his game. Taking second on a steal means very little there. Just needed to keep the line moving for the top of the line-up, and that didn't help. The Flowers at-bat was typical of his worst stretches last-year, although he actually had one homer against Ventura in his career. Another big play was that dunker that fell into RF because the defense was playing up to cut down the runner at the plate...Micah normally would get to that ball with a normal alignment. Finally, Flowers needs to do a better job at least attempting to block that wild pitch....his footwork wasn't very good, although the surface was supposedly very slick in KC.
  22. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) Volquez is no Shields and it remains to be seen if Rios and Morales have anything left. They will also have to deal with regression in the bullpen and probably won't be going 66-1 when leading after 6 or whatever it was. I'll be shocked beyond shocked if they win more games than last year. Well, of course they're PROBABLY not going to go 13-6 against the White Sox, and the Indians are even more formidable than before.
  23. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) I should add that Jennings did a nice job pitching to Gordon regardless and that I like Robin going to Drabek for an audition in a game we were never gonna win by that point. Cool it with the KC "powerhouse" stuff. They were honestly one of the worst pennant winners of the last 20 years and they got worse. Id say theyre about even....lose Shields, Butler and Aoki....replace with Volquez, Morales and Rios. The paramount thing is, the confidence of their young core guys like Gordon, Cain, Perez, Moustakas, Escobar and Hosmer is at an all-time high. Same with Ventura. Shields and Butler werent as good as usual last year, either.
  24. Well, on the plus side, they can have "Cubs' Attendance Champion Hard Hat" giveaways for the next 3-4 years. Except they better start winning at some point.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 12:33 AM) debating the old school vs the new school thought process of players like each other. Ty Cobb, rep is he would kill the other player, if that what it takes to win a game. how bout Pete Rose, i can't remember, did he have the same mentality?? now is there anyone in this generation that has that same mentality?? baseball a most therapeutic way to loose one self for a couple of hours. Watch the video of Rose running over Ray Fosse (ostensibly ending his career) and tell me if we'll ever see a play like that again in MLB...no way. Or Torii Hunter/Jamie Burke, for a more recent example.
