Cubs-Mets (Better Team) NLCS
Fathom is breathing easy now? At least easier... Granted, the Cubs could easily come back and win 2 of the next 3, Familia could break down, anything is possible...but it seems like Arrieta exceeding his previous inning highs is really starting to erode his velocity and the crispness of his pitches overall. Not to mention deGrom has probably been the most dominating overall for the Mets in recent weeks.

ALCS- Kansas City Royals vs Toronto Blue Jays
QUOTE (bjm676 @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) KC looks like they can win the whole damn thing. Said that last year when they were 8-0 in the playoffs...before they ran into the Bumgarner buzzsaw, especially Game 7 in relief.

Sox and the Media
After becoming Executive Director, Irmer recognized that the ISFA was in a difficult financial condition, due in substantial part because it was putting the interests of the White Sox ahead of the interests of Illinois taxpayers. (Id. ¶ 21.) As a result, Irmer sought to reform the relationship between the White Sox and the ISFA established in the Management Agreement, which she viewed as abusive to taxpayers. (Id. ¶ 24.) To that end, Irmer developed and implemented a facilities management plan, resulting in millions of dollars of savings for ISFA. (Id. ¶ 25.) Irmer also sought to develop new sources of revenue from non-baseball events, such as music concerts. (Id. ¶ 28.) She advocated that the White Sox pay rent to the ISFA and also sought to develop the publically owned lands around Cellular Field to generate additional revenue. (Id. ¶¶ 30, 35.) The White Sox and Reinsdorf opposed these proposals because of the economic detriment to them. (Id. ¶¶ 29-30.) Reinsdorf also opposed the music concerts on the basis that they could detract from revenue generated by concerts held at the United Center. (Id.) In 2008, with Irmer's strong support, the ISFA persuaded the White Sox, over its initial objections, to agree for the first time to begin paying rent, in the token amount of $1.2 million per year. (Id. ¶ 35.) Reinsdorf increasingly viewed Irmer as an opponent based on her reforms. (Id. ¶¶ 34, 36.) He also did not support her efforts to bring more members of minority communities into the ballpark because he viewed the White Sox brand as appealing primarily to people from the suburbs or other areas of the city perceived as having little contact with minorities. (Id. ¶ 37.) As a result, Reinsdorf lobbied former Governor Blagojevich or members of his staff to persuade them that Irmer's employment contract should not be renewed in December 2008. However, before Irmer could be terminated, Blagojevich was indicted and arrested. Irmer's contract was not terminated and was extended through December 2010. (Id. ¶¶ 40-43.) Irmer's conflicts with the White Sox continued as she persisted in her "efforts to protect and enhance the interests of Illinois taxpayers." (Id. ¶ 44.) In 2010, the White Sox proposed the development of a new restaurant on the north side of 35th Street, known as "Bacardi at the Park." (Id. ¶¶ 46-50.) Irmer strongly opposed the proposal as a one-sided benefit to the White Sox; the White Sox, and not the State of Illinois, would receive the rent and profit-sharing revenues generated by the restaurant. She repeatedly protested to the ISFA Board, to individual Board members and to the attorney for the ISFA that they should reject the Bacardi at the Park deal, based on her belief that "every ISFA Board member. . . had the legal duty to" reject the deal. (Id. ¶ 51.) However, the ISFA Board, led by Thompson, ignored Irmer's objections and approved the final Bacardi at the Park agreement in November 2010, giving away millions of dollars to the White Sox that could have gone to the State of Illinois. (Id. ¶ 52.) She was also the one who pushed the White Sox to start paying paltry sum of $1.2 to IFSA for yearly rent beginning in 2008. http://www.leagle.com/decision/In%20FDCO%2...0v.%20REINSDORF

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) This is my point exactly. This is what you get out of the team. Nothing good at all. Every single post is misery. It is like Kathy Bates has Jerry Reinsdorf locked in the room with your keyboard. I prefer to think of Kathy Griffin, higher annoyance coefficient.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Arrieta is going to get hit today as well, the Cubs really needed that game yesterday imo. Bet the house?

Not stopping at a stop sign? Really police?
I just wanted to see Greg's hypothetical response. Crack cocaine possession=death penalty in China, my seven month old son might be unhappy with me.

Maybe take Shark off the Soxtalk banner?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) I thought one with Rick Kenny and Jerry with 3 Stooges type haircuts would be good. Maybe nobody would figure it out but Moe and Larry haircuts are pretty distinctive as is the Curly bald head. Too dated ? Anti-Racism/political correctness lobby will not condone....showing KW in an unflattering light.

Especially with Iowa on their third and fourth string running backs...you have to go toe to toe with their offensive and defensive lines to win a game like that or their superior conditioning will wear you down in the second half. Not pretty, but it works....and Beathard is more capable of creating big plays with his feet than Rudock ever was.

Not stopping at a stop sign? Really police?
You know what might have worked....you could have lied and said you failed to stop because you were carjacked once at an intersection when someone with a Glock hopped in because you came to a complete stop and gave him sufficient time to strike...or your unit in Iraq was ambushed at an intersection in Riyadh when you stopped at an intersection because kids planted by Al queda were crossing to block your path and you got ambushed on four sides by automatic weapons fire and continue to suffer from ptsd as a result of losing half your buddies. Of course, as a Christian, you also risk going to hell for breaking the Ten Commandments. Those are two ways out of it. Ethically and morally, no way. Butarguing you regularly give at church and to United Way isn't going to get you sympathy since part of that can be written off against taxes.

Indiana is the type of team that scares you as an Iowa fan, especially if they get an early lead and playing at home with motivation to prove something. Luckily Iowa has Maryland at home this week first.

MLBTradeRumors Offseason Outlook
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) just a question to all, do the sox really need a 30 hr a season as a player to be get. i mean dunn was that kind of player. a 30 hr guy with a batting avg of 230 . i think a hitter, who has the ability to hit 20+ hrs, and avg hitting of 270 avg, and has a contact of rate to k's stat. The Astros and Royals have that type of balance...threats but not a bunch of pure home run hitters like the Jays have... Someone will argue Valbuena, Rasmus, Gattis and Carter, but those are all or nothing types. Really Correa and Springer types are the ideal, and they are rare talents. In this market, it's only Upton, Chris Davis and maybe Cespedes.

ALCS- Kansas City Royals vs Toronto Blue Jays
When a ball drops in without being touched that always happens. Basically, an ace with a three run lead in a close to must-win game has to pitch over or through that. I'm sure in the postgame he didn't use it as an excuse. Both teams had breaks they took advantage of.

Granderson with an 88% success ratio scoring that runner from third and less than two outs. Why was Montero so far behind home when he caught the ball? Posey Rule or just didn't realize he was too far back to be able to do anything but lunge forward with a tag?

Cubs-Mets (Better Team) NLCS
Yeah, all he had to do was bunt...no need to burn a hitter.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Punter should have just fallen on it instead of trying to kick I mean as a designed play. Too risky he gets tackled with 1-3 seconds left I guess...and in the red zone to boot.

That must have been both shocking and painful. The crazy thing is they had a couple of chances to tackle him before he crossed the goal line and still preserve the victory. Then you have the bumbling, rumbling stumbling 74 yard dash by a FB as well.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Can't do that only up 2. If they were up 3 that is an option and just have them run through the end zone. What if you ran back to the five or ten and kept dodging/eluding tacklers long enough for the clock to run out?

ALCS- Kansas City Royals vs Toronto Blue Jays
One thing to keep in mind though...the best defense in baseball has a huge advantage on turf if they do keep it in the park. The Royals also match up well wth Estrada, Cueto's brimming with confidence and they lost 2/3 at home to the Rangers. Greg wil not be betting another house against Cueto now.

ALCS- Kansas City Royals vs Toronto Blue Jays
I think the odds are 81-82%, something like that, taking the first two at home in a seven game series...
-
2015-16 NCAA Football Thread
Why don't you just have the Qb or Rb take ball and run around behind the line long enough to run out the clock? Guess there's the risk of giving them a shot at a final pass or even a field goal. Craziest ending in recent memory...like Cal-Stanford and the band coming onto the field.

Hochevar limiting the damage was the key to this game..along with Goins opening the door. Davis warmed up three times but Yost got him into a game situation and it definitely paid off today. Duffy as well.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) I usually won't do this to a non-pitcher, but this game is on Goins if Toronto loses. What the f*** is he doing out there? He almost crossed up Tulo on the Morales grounder up the middle, too. Jays have had some bizarre innings recently. The seventh against Texas, balls hitting the guide wire and then this half inning. Rios with some sweet revenge against the organization that summarily dumped him six years ago.
