4/23 - White Sox vs. Royals 7:10 CST
Need a big two out hit here, but have the right guy up at the plate. Yordano's ego won't allow him to back off and walk him...and LaRoche might be even more dangerous to Ventura.

Raft of roster moves
Good to see Ynoa back. Let's see if he can stay healthy and on the mound for 2-3 consecutive months.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:34 PM) I understand the warning here, given the team in the visiting dugout. Given the fact that the Royals are leading MLB in HBP, too.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) If anyone other than Kansas City was playing in this there'd be 0 warnings Apparently you don't follow the Dodgers/Giants rivalry.

Abreu, btw, really needs to wear that Bonds protective device on his elbox/triceps...he's too valuable to risk injury with how often he gets hit.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) Vince Coleman must have worked with the Royala. Is that like Payola? American Royal?

Looks like it was a change-up that caught Moustakas. No benches clearing until the next batter gets hit. Now let's hope Sale doesn't accidentally clip another batter or he will be off to the showers. You'd have a lot more reaction from the Royals if he had a broken jaw or was pulled out of the game (like Lawrie taking out Escobar).

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) Most of KS line up didn't even play rookie ball with them.and most of the guys who did like Gordon and Moose are hardly ball in play guys. Escobar, Dyson, Orlando, Cain, Perez, Infante (although he came from another organization)...they all have been taught by one organization or another to just put the ball in play. Rios, Morales, Moustakas, Hosmer and Gordon....different situations, although Gordon when he was shifted off 3B to LF and went back down to Omaha started to change his offensive approach completely and become more a doubles/gap hitter.

"I’d like us to play better than we did the last time against them," manager Robin Ventura wryly said. "Statement series, that’s probably a bit much, but you want to play good baseball -- that’s the statement you want to make. I think guys are swinging it a little better and pitchers are doing well and that’s the stuff you really look for. I’d rather us play better baseball than make a statement to them. I’d rather make a statement for ourselves." Center fielder Adam Eaton said the idea of statements or getting fired up for series like this is overblown -- "It doesn’t matter who’s out there, it could be a high school team, we want to take three out of four," he said -- even if the 11-4 Royals have come firing out of the gate.

Well, a slight moral victory not to get completely shut out offensively there.

Ramirez has taken Konerko's place as the best fastball hitter on the team.

Great baserunning.... Well, basically it would have been 1st and 3rd two outs regardless. Probably not a double play ball.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Was hitting Abreu intentional? No, he's been at 96 MPH mostly tonight and tried to throw it as hard as he possibly could (98)...when he does that...the balls veers up and in against RH batters.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) good job putting it in play I will take it. Not when the bases should have been loaded with no outs...!!! Not selective enough, too anxious to get the big hit.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) how many fastball at 95-96 has he thrown right down the middle? He doesn't have great stuff tonight and our guys are just not hitting. He's really throwing as hard as he can and losing some of his mechanics, especially the HBP against Abreu. Garcia chased ball 4 there. That would have been huge to have bases loaded and no outs. Got too impatient...lucky he didn't hit into a DP.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) They have just been great the last 20 years See Hahn, Rick. It takes time to change the organizational philosophy. If Moore had been the GM for the past 20 years, your retort would be relevant here. Maybe the White Sox need an actual organizational philosophy for the minors and majors like the Cardinals put together....a guidebook for every single player in the organization to read. It's not rocket science, Buddy Bell.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) I love that Sale is throwing his change up to lefties a lot tonight. Made Gordon look really bad...still he's given up hits to Moustakas, Hosmer and Morales from his weaker side.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) Ok Micah, slow down son before you kill yourself. No surprise Garcia was also involved in that near Faces of Death experience.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) Royals are 4 spots better on team rank in bb% then sox but lowest in k% Because the Royals are taught from the beginning in short-season/rookie leagues to put the ball in play, especially up the middle...

Jose Abreu Speaks His Mind on Sox' Poor Play -- a 1st?
Ideally, it's Jose as the obvious leader (since he's an everyday player)....Sale/Samardzija/Robertson among the pitching staff....and then Eaton, Ramirez and Geo Soto. Of course, the point always missed is the best leader on most really good teams is USUALLY the catcher.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Steal second Micah! Unless his time from delivery to home is slower because of his wind-up, they're better not forcing the issue until Micah is comfortable reading all the opposing pitchers in the AL Central. Seems like more aggressive outs on the basepaths would just lead to further frustration from the offense/Sale. Plus Perez has a hose.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) What'd the replay show there? Ventura is going bean someone now. That would be mature. Ozzie-esque, though.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) Yes, Sale is 7-8 vs. KC, but you didn't mention his 2.68 ERA vs. your boys. Ventura is 2-2 with a 4.67 ERA vs. Sox. I think Dick Allen may be on to something. That latter is a scary thought. Of course, Kluber should have won yesterday going by the fact that he's the incumbent Cy Young winner and had three very solid starts prior to last night where the Indians scored a grand total of 5 runs for him.

2015 Films thread
http://www.ew.com/article/2015/04/23/aveng...ltron-ew-review Avengers review. B- Seems like this one will be a huge successful financially but a step back for the series artistically/creatively...sounds a bit like Furious 7 but with 3 times as many characters jammed into that 2 1/2 hours (to sell more action figures and Happy Meals, one would guess). That's why the "smaller" feeling pictures like the Captain America ones, the first Iron Man, the first Thor....that are more "personal" and intimate will probably end up as our favorites. Sometimes, you can overdo it with the action/set-pieces. Maybe that moment has finally arrived. Btw, the next Furious movie will premiere in two years and somehow M.Night Shyamalan got funding for yet another bomb, THE VISIT (maybe, just MAYBE, he could pick a better title for once???) http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_visit_2015/ 2 out of 3 positives, that's amazing for him. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ex_machina/ Has an up-and-coming actress and a sleek look, garnering lots of positive reviews

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) With Sale, I use pen not pencil. He is 5-0 in March/April the last 2 years. Going against his 7-8 career record against KC....losing 14 of the last 17 head-to-head vs. KC, etc. I'm not sure I would bet my nest egg here. The thing that's scary to me is Ventura hasn't pitched a game reminiscent of his 2015 post-season. He's scuffled with control, injuries and emotions and hasn't put everything together.
