  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) The Cubs aren't going to make up 10,000 seats a night, in one year. That is just absurd. It's ALWAYS the year after...that lag effect. Assuming they did something like our Dunn signing before 2011...signing David Price, for example, prior to the 2016 season.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:34 PM) I think that would make 3 or 4 first rounders involved with ligament problems. Aiken, Hoffman and Fedde (UNLV)....rumors about Finnegan (TCU)
  3. Interesting the new Astros regime involved in two "controversies" in the first round already....Appel selected after not signing with the Pirates, and now the Aiken situation.
  4. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K so far for Danish. That's super sexy. ERA down to 4.29.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) Find something you love, and you never work a day in your life. Yes, if only the SoxTalk salaries were 25-50% higher, that would be true. Stock options? IPO rumors?
  6. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) Would you drive them to the airport though? How is your drive tool anyway? I'm sure it's right up there with Statham, Vin Diesel, Ryan Gosling and Nikki Lauda.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) Seriously. It's a good trade for the Cubs. Unless Russell goes all Jose Iglesias on them and never gets past his hamstring problems.
  8. Tyler Flowers. Yikes. 9 for his last 96, with 43 K's. OPS now sinking below 600. How long before they pull the plug???
  9. Beckham 2 for his last 20 and 7 for 46. Rondon with a triple and a homer??? Dunn tater. Dialed up for the fastball. First HR/RBI since the Giants series at USCF. Carroll starts aren't the most popular here around SoxTalk, haha.
  10. DJ and Farmer ripping on Ortiz not running out that last ball and turning for the dugout before the ball even got to 1B.
  11. Rondon with a triple AND a homer. WHAT???
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) Something I hadn't realized before until checking out his stats, but this is Jordan Danks' 5th season in Charlotte. You don't see that too often with the same organization. He's first or second now in nearly every historical Charlotte Knights category. Crash Davis-esque.
  13. How good is May in the outfield? Has anyone seen him play before?
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) I wouldnt be shocked if he got hurt for awhile, but no. Is Konerko already being asked to be part of the coaching staff in the future...or one of those, "give it a year or so and see how you feel" things where they're leaving the door open, like with Thome/Ventura, etc.
  15. Target Sale fliers up in Washington's bullpen, along with their Rendon campaign material.
  16. Reynaudo or TUC's pick, Rubby going for the Red Sox on WED apparently
  17. Start of game delayed due to the threat of imminent weather... No time given. Hopefully the weather will pass through and they can get it in. Lightning in the area.
  18. David Ortiz was just going off on a Baseball Network broadcast from the last 24 hours where someone apparently was bringing up the fact that he "seemed to be getting a free pass" on the steroids issue. Sensitive. Me thinketh he doth protesteth too much. Lots of cursing/bleeps in his interview, saying nobody in America gets a free pass (that he'd been tested 40 times, etc.)...had something to do with John Lackey, couldn't quite figure out how his name got brought in the conversation.
  19. Goodbye, DeAza...nice knowing you. Or Dunn. Whatever. It would be better to see him limited to DH duties, imo, although they'd have to talk to Paulie....Konerko's wishes shouldn't get in the way of preparing Avisail to hit the ground running in 2015. Unless you're Victor Martinez, and even then it took him 1/2 season plus...it's important to maintain your timing as a hitter, so not losing the entire season is amazing news. Wonder if they plan on letting him play "unsupervised" in Venezuela for winter ball?
  20. What the hell happened with Yoan Moncada? Surprised we haven't heard yet about the Yankees signing him.
  21. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) They'll get a legit prospect IMO. Not anybody world-beating but someone who would be solidly top-10 in our system and a quality second piece like a reliever or someone with ceiling who is far away. With Texas there is always the possibility of an expanded deal of Rios + RP which could bring in a nice return. But whatever they get, if after the deal we call the Rangers and offer Leury Garcia straight-up for their Rios return they'll laugh us off the phone. The thing is, at that point, Rios still had $20 million remaining on his contract, plus the option year (which probably won't be exercised). It's sort of like the White Sox trying to trade John Danks right now and expecting much more than Leury Garcia in return. What makes you think the Rangers are capable of getting more? They look stupid these days, trading Kinsler for Fielder...causing so many bad feelings with Michael Young's position change/s and eventual departure, letting Nelson Cruz go only to see him return with a vengeance with the Orioles...overvaluing their middle infield prospects like Profar and Odor and promptly seeing their value fall substantially.
  22. Why did you have to give TUC another "penis" metaphor to work with???
  23. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) While i am sure there are there moments it seems this board doesnt have the random trolls that continually pop up over there, or posters who continue to say the same thing over and over. That's mostly TUC's outlandish attempts at humor.
  24. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) Sorry if this is in the wrong area but wasnt able to find a thread or folder where to post if your a new poster and to introduce yourself. just figured i would say hi since i have just recently joined the board. I have been a huge white sox fan my whole life, originally a poster at whitesox.com but after recent updates to their message board and constant bickering over politics i have decided to move to greener pastures. Seems like a lot of people know baseball pretty well here so hoping it leads to great conversations, discusions and even arguements. My favorite white sox player black jack My favorite game i went to was game 2 against the redsox in 05 when iguchi hit the big homerun. Favorite player in baseball is ken griffey jr, i could watch him swing a bat for hours. And the play that always sticks out to me was watching robin ventura try to charge nolan ryan, i was a huge fan of venture and just remember being devasted when he got put in the headlock. Looking forward to contributing and having fun. 2001-2004 it was quite an interesting/polarized atmosphere at whitesox.com, all the hate for KW and just a very few defenders. How that all changed in 2005.
  25. I think a lot of agents are going to be wary of dealing with the Astros...this seems to fit with how they go about doing business. In the long run, they might win with this tactic on the financial side, but it tends to leave a bad taste. Whether it's this situation, the release of the proprietary database trade information, Bud Norris' comments, lots of former and current players (anonymously), the low-balling contract strategy with Springer/Singleton/Dominguez/Grossman being offered long-term extensions before they've even played at the major league level...let's just say their path and the Cubs' will always be intriguing ones to follow, that's for sure. If they succeed, they'll change baseball even more to the quant/SABR side. If not, another setback or black eye.
