Hey, we made an opposing pitcher pay for a mistake. Career homer #31 for Wise. Perhaps the most important in his SOX career since the end of the 2008 season. 60 MPH curveball floating up there.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) In my dumb opinion, this Tigers team is the most talented team the Sox have had to contend with in the AL Central since those loaded Indians teams with Manny and Thome, etc. Or the Twins/Tigers in the 2nd half of 2006 when they both blew by the White Sox....Liriano and Verlander were both coming into their own, Morneau and Mauer and Hunter and all those guys were close to being in their primes. The Twins had that White Sox 1983-ish second half run.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) Great post Another advantage of Viciedo coming back....DeAza will have to play CF. Got the break at 1B. Can the White Sox take advantage offensively?
-
FWIW, Rangers' announcers said the rumor about Gillaspie is that he was complaining to Bochy about lack of playing time. That probably explains why they gave up on him pretty quickly...change of scenery thing, like Jon Rauch pushed himself into with KW about 10 years ago. Bochy runs a pretty tight ship.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) I think next year it will be someone outside the organization starting in CF. Which will suck, because it means that Mitchell, Thompson and Walker all stalled in their development to the point where, ONCE AGAIN, we had to go outside of the organization for talent, either overpaying for a FA or giving up pitching depth from the minors. Otherwise, it's a mini-"fire sale" to find a CFer. Tigers beating up the Twins 6-1 behind Verlander...Tigers starting to play much better baseball. The might not be waiting until August to wake up from their stupor this season.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) De Aza job needs to in jeopardy because he is hurting the team this year. Q is toast. Who could replace him? Casper Wells in CF? Wise? Danks? Those are the only guys capable of playing CF, and Wise really shouldn't be there anymore.

18 errors ties for 6th in the majors and unless the other teams near the top both made multiple errors...that's the worst fielding percentage in the American League.
-
You know it's bad when a 6'5" 1B doesn't even make an attempt at a throw. Well, Greene did come up as a SS. When it rains, it pours. And, of course, it all starts to go wrong. Crazy karom down in the corner as well. Another error for the defense on DeAza? Jesus.

On the plus side, our 2/8 with RISP has raised our average coming into the game from .180, haha. Team batting average raised from one point to .230.

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20130430 Something new. Hawkins with a double and single, a walk, RBI and only one K. Now at .182.
-
Hardest thrown pitch of the season for Darvish at 97. It's nice to know we're not only striking out a ton, but that we also produced Chris Carter, who's leading the majors with 44 K's for the Astros. Yikes.

First runs in 17 IP on the road for Quintana. First homer surrendered since opening start of season. 3 homers now on the year.

Would things be any different under Walker?

QUOTE (Andrew @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 12:30 AM) Right - Good luck with all this; from placing stats on call ups/fill ins to your explanation of "decision making." My favorite part - "...might have overestimated what Kepp and Konerko would provide this year...".... Yeah - no s***. Keppinger was a throw away from a better team than us, and Konerko...come on man..... How long did you REALLY think he would last? Lastly - where do you get off talking about Viciedo??? Might be the only POSSIBLE bright spot on this team, and he's been COMPLETELY mishandled over the last year and 1/2 and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a real Sox fan who would disagree with that. If you have followed this board since the 2008-09 off-season, you'll discover a pretty consistent record of always defending and hyping Viciedo.... I only said his RH power bat was missed in the line-up, and there's no argument about that. It's the reason Casper Wells is now on the roster, but that's only another band-aid. As far as disagreeing about Viciedo, THERE ARE MANY! A lot of Sox fans are more encouraged by Quintana and Santiago (well, until his last appearance) and even Gillaspie. -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 10:17 PM) What's your point? Obviously you get suspended for that. UMPS SUCK That there's a history with this ymp, it's not the first time he's had a dramatic confrontation with a player.

FLUKE? Greene, Rios and Gillaspie are all over 350 OBP right now. I'm assuming you are referring to Gillaspie. As far as the Walker years go, when you have the likes of Durham, Thomas, Ordonez, C-Lee/El Caballo, Valentin, Rowand, Crede, Thome, Dye, AJ, Quentin and Konerko in the line-up....well, that's a LONG list of good to great hitters for their positions. "Talent is as talent does." Missing Beckham, Viciedo and Keppinger now, there's no way we could legitimately expect to be even an average offense...and flipping Flowers for AJ. It's pretty obvious that the big payoff of having Keppinger at 3B (now 2B) for the full season (instead of Morel/Hudson/Youk) isn't having the dramatic effect YET on the line-up that some predicted. If anything, we might have overestimated what Kepp and Konerko would provide this year, and underestimated Beckham's defense at 2B as well as the lack of another RH bat to balance the attack with Viciedo on the sidelines. -
Rongey: Patience a key factor in every baseball season

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 10:18 PM) That's why I don't quite understand the borderline hostility often thrown his way. How can it be expected of him to say ¡¡ROAR DIS TEAM SUX TAER IT DOWN!!!11one!!1eleventy!1 if that's not the message the top wants to promote? If someone turns in an inexcusable performance, he'll usually say it. He won't burn them down like some would like to hear, but what can you expect- Doug Buffone and Ed O'Bradovich? People have lost their jobs for doing just that in this very city. If I didn't listen to the pre/post and instead relied on a message board to draw conclusions, I'd probably think that this guy would apologize for the iceberg that sank the Titanic. Throw in some of the mouth-breathers that sadly own a telephone and undoubtedly have 670 on speed dial... But he'd do it in a somewhat holier than thou, i know better or more than you way...which would both apologize for the iceberg but also not take responsibility or hold himself accountable in any way, lol. Actually, it would be pretty hilarious if Rongey tried to pull an Ozzie and WANTED to take the blame and fall on his own sword, just to pacify those mouth breathers and drunks calling in to rant about the Rafael Palmeiro trade by the Cubs (we can get any superstar in baseball if we just package 5-7 random minor leaguers) or asking to promote Courtney Hawkins. -
Who would you pick to headline a movie if you were director?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) Who the hell picked Dwayne Johnson? Seriously? He's arguably the most popular actor today....that's why. He delivers box office results. He's likable...and has a high Q rating. Two or three years ago, you would have still said Will Smith was the most popular actor in the world with various audiences. You can make different arguments, but it's quite difficult to argue with the results....unless you want to bring up SNITCH or FASTER. He's definitely the busiest actor right in Hollywood, that's hard to argue Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon (announced) Hank (rumored) 2014 Hercules: The Thracian Wars (pre-production) Hercules 2014 Fast & Furious 7 (pre-production) Luke Hobbs 2014 Arabian Nights (pre-production) Sinbad (rumored) ???? Lore (pre-production) ???? Ciudad (pre-production) Personally, I love Jason Statham movies, haha. Someone, I think it was Steve, said he had a Mark Wahlberg "bromance," for me, Statham popcorn action flicks with so-so plots. -
http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...?P=Casper-Wells In nearly 600 MLB at-bats .240ish average, 25 homers, 80 RBI's, 6 steals, 314 OBP and a whopping 171 K's But a 746 OPS is at least average or decent, even at a corner OF spot. It's not abysmal...he's better than Danks, Tekotte, what we've seen of Wise so far and head and shoulders above the likes of Olmedo or Angel Sanchez as a bench player.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 09:50 PM) I'm searching for a light at the end of the tunnel, but all I see is a 55% strikeout rate. But but, he's only 19 duuuude! And Jared Mitchell has a 42% strikeout rate, which is actually pretty good in comparison. Can't wait for the future to get here. What about Johnson, Snodgress and Beck? Organizational filler/AAAA/journeyman candidates? Swing mechanics aren't impossible to adjust if you catch them early enough and if the hitter is a willing learner. That's part of the due diligence that goes into drafting a raw/talented athlete with an unfinished game and lack of experience....who was just getting by at the high school level with pure tools and low baseball acumen. He has the raw bat speed and abundance of talent, it's just a matter of getting rid of all the elements (hitch, bat/hand positioning, timing device/s, head movement) that are slowing down his swing plane.

You have to remember, ESPN has a huge demographic of Christian viewers as well. His rant was the equivalent of the Tea Party's genesis...sort of a call to arms. I even wonder now if an overtly Christian broadcaster is fired for his viewpoint (based largely on the Bible) that he can now consider himself a "protected" class and file a wrongful termination lawsuit for discrimination based upon his religious beliefs. It's definitely a slippery slope...so many of the Founding Fathers were overtly Christian. I can't imagine they would support a country where the pendulum has swung so far back the other direction that Christians were almost being persecuted for their beliefs (not in a the Roman Colisseum, thrown to the lions sense...but the modern day equivalent). He wasn't stating you should condemn Collins or spit on him or attack him (hate crimes), he was just saying he disagreed with his homosexuality...not even getting into the argument whether it's a choice/decision or based on genetic predetermination. And I say all this never once having dreamed of voting Republican.

Forgot Matt Damon, too. And Ben Affleck, although he's getting a lot more attention for his directorial chops at the moment. -
This has been predicted for a couple of weeks now. Any more news on Dayan's progress from the oblique injury?
-
Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods being 2 prime examples. It's easy to pile on now, but EVERYONE was afraid to lose access at the height of their fame...

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) Of those listed, I went with Brad Pitt. But had there been an "OTHER" category, I would have gone with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Edward Norton, or Leo DiCaprio. Love JGL, like DiCaprio more and more....so-so about Norton. By the way, does anyone know when Don Juan's Addiction is going to be released? -

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) Glad to see that he has a newspaper that will give him column inches for a cheerleading/puff column. Wonder if the White Sox have to pay for that or not? Or do advertising with the Daily Herald, kind of a quid pro quo.
