  1. Cabrera at .392, 57 RBI's. Twins are posed to lose their 10th consecutive game. Down 3-0 already. Deduno (season debut) falling apart after Escobar blew what should have been a forceout at 2nd to end the inning without any damage.

  3. They weren't supposed to decide on that until over the weekend...
  4. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 24, 2013 -> 08:30 AM) Looking back on it, Ehren Wassermann's time here may have been one of the first obvious on-field manifestations of the behind the scenes conflict between Ozzie & Kenny Williams. It seemed to me then, and even more now in hindsight, that Ozzie was using Ehren as a means of telling Kenny "I want guys who can throw to both sides of the plate & for multiple innings" rather than accept the guy for what he was. And that hurt me deeply as a fan, because Wassermann was one of my favorite stories in the organization at the time and I really wanted him to succeed. In that s***ty 2007 pen he was the one guy with the least amount of stuff but unlike the rest of them, in his case, something actually did exist between the ears & he helped out that pen a lot because of it. Then after that Ozzie just seemed to be like "f*** this guy" which I didn't understand. Specialists are still very much undervalued in the game because though they may only be able to pitch to one side of the plate for a couple batters, they do often come into some of the toughest situations you will see during the course of the game. Veal last year owned Prince Fielder with the game on the line, and it's nice when you have someone you can trust to come into those situations. Remember Kelly Wunsch? If you ever see that man, buy him a drink because he was the man. That happened to a lesser extent with Chad Bradford...then puzzingly, he ended up pitching a key inning in the playoffs against SEA when nobody was expecting him to be utilized in that way. Then the trade to OAK which was dissected over and over again in Moneyball and other places...
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 24, 2013 -> 06:38 AM) He had a surgery to help lose weight. I'm not sure of the exact amount but he looks much better and is much healthier at 60 than he was in his 40's. Was it the "lap band" or gastric bypass?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) You call into Rongey's post game show? Nope. Do you?
  7. http://www.kansascity.com/2013/05/23/42528...cent-slide.html Dayton Moore "not panicking," says position players have to develop at the major league level...and pitching is a different issue (Herrera, their version of Nate Jones, was recently sent back down to AAA).
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2013 -> 12:56 AM) Very true. I used to stand up for Ozzie as well when he'd throw a reliever out there who sucked versus a reliable one. Some days you have to pitch the sucky relievers like Dick Allen said above. Best post of the thread. You guys don't agree with me that Nate has a funky delivery? Gawd I hate his release. It's not conventional, and it's certainly far from textbook, but it works for him. If they could figure out a way to change his modify his delivery, take a bit of juice off the fastball (increasing movement) and give him 50% better control, surely they would have done it already. Just not that easy. He was an effective reliever for most of last season. They're just going to have to be patient to see if he'll come back around and figure things out in side sessions with Cooper, Parent, etc.
  9. Marlins Face White Sox -- Minus Ozzie Guillen TWITTER: @GeorgeRichards How much fun would it have been had the Marlins gone to the south side of Chicago this weekend with Ozzie Guillen still managing? Guillen, fired after one season with the Marlins, managed the White Sox for eight colorful seasons in which he won a World Series but also openly feuded with members of the media as well as players and front office staff. On Wednesday, Guillen told the Jonathon Brandmeier Show on Chicago's WGN 720-AM it is a little strange being out of baseball. Guillen signed a four-year deal with the Marlins and is still being paid "a lot of money" by the organization. "If I said I didn't miss it, I would be lying,'' said Guillen, who managed the Marlins at Wrigley Field last year but the team didn't visit the Sox. "Things are better and simpler without the stress. But you miss the players, being around people, being on the field. My family has made it easier. I've been traveling a lot.'' Guillen also added that when you Google his name, the first thing that pops up "are Fidel Castro pictures. That's stupid, but it is what it is.'' Guillen also said the Marlins told him he should buy a house in Miami -- something that sounds a little familiar. Guillen, like Jose Reyes, didn't take that advice. The third-base coach for the Marlins' 2003 championship team, Guillen said he had a house in the Miami area that he sold while managing the White Sox. "I've lived in Miami, but I'm not a Miami type of guy,'' Guillen said. "You need to be single. Then you'll have fun. .-.-. In Miami, you can walk around and no one knows who you are unless you are Shaquille O'Neal or LeBron.'' Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/...l#storylink=cpy
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) From a Law blog today: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/...aw-on-southland Where's "Chi Chi" Rodriguez?
  11. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:41 PM) Wilson Betamit. He still hurts the Sox. Is that like the Vegemite?
  12. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 23, 2013 -> 08:16 PM) We still have that righty, forget his name. We had Drew O'Neill as I believe a 2nd rounder from a low 3/4 who was compared to Linebrink stuff-wise, but his arm burst into flames (I think he's retired now) and then the following year we drafted another one who was supposed to be better, and who was supposed to move quickly. That guy got hurt but I think he's back in the system again. I think it was NSS who was all about that guy. Maybe we'll go to that one. I still can't remember his name, but he's a righty specialist prospect. http://forums.prospero.com/n/pfx/forum.asp...&tid=113032 90% sure it's Dan Remenowsky you're referring to.
  13. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) This is probably the toughest position to fill in baseball. How many kids want to play this position. IF they can hit then they want to move them out of this position. But it's probably the easiest route to the majors, along with being a LH pitcher.
  14. Santos Rodriguez with a nice performance. He's going to be looked to as a replacement for Thornton (IF IF IF) he can improve his control. We'll see what Don Cooper can do with him or Olacio.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Maybe in your eyes. Some fans will realize he hasn't pitched in a year, so you can't expect perfection. White Sox culture. If we're making the argument that the team is still in contention and not aiming towards 2014, then 3 Daniel Hudson-esque starts in a row and he'll be relegated to the bullpen or Barry Zito status by a loud minority of fans, typically the ones that call into Rongey's post-game show.
  16. Tigers very easily could sweep through the Twins this weekend. (Of course, their offense will have to score 8+ runs to support Porcello tonight). Tigers have the same problem as the Sox. Smyly would be a better starter than Porcello, but they need him to shore up their bullpen as the long man. With that offense, he's a key cog as he can shut down the opponent and give their offense time to rally back in games. Minnie's already lost 8 in a row. Deduno (we remember him from last year) going tmrw. Cabrera homer #14, RBI's 53 and 54. Hitting .390 currently.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) Yes. Totally different injuries. And I'm defining "good" here with Danks as being "under a 4.00 ERA" at least. So, if I had to bet...I would say it's more likely that Martinez puts up a 750-775 OPS than Danks being a sub 4.00 ERA pitcher in 2013. Could be wrong on both counts, that's possible, too. Not to mention the fact that pitchers who miss a full year from pitching....there's just no way they're going to be able to shake off all that rust and get their control back the first 2-3 months pitching, like a hitter gets his timing back. I always thought of Martinez as "a born hitter," and I do think it's easier for a hitter than a pitcher to get back to normal. Granted, Martinez is quite a bit older....so you never know, as lots of hitters (see Konerko) tend to suddenly lose bat speed in their mid to late 30's.
  18. Well, one thing's for sure, if Danks gets lit up...some will definitely question him because of the Marlins' line-up being mostly AAAA fodder. Conversely, if he pitches a gem, he'll be likewise doubted...what will happen when he faces a real line-up, like in the AL East? Kind of a no-win situation, in many ways.
  19. Do we have a guy with a funky delivery like Ehren Wasserman/Chad Bradford/Takatsu we could try? Probably not. Someone that throws slow enough to throw off hitters who are used to all gas coming from the bullpen...Remenowsky?
  20. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/marlins-white...20242--mlb.html Would like some more inspiring words than Paulie's....sigh. Guess he's not feeling all that confident these days. No Jose Fernandez. A rookie making his fourth career start (hasn't won yet) against us...well, that usually doesn't go very well for the Sox. Then Nolasco and Sanabia, the spit/slobber ball guy.
  21. There's no way those are natural...
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) For whom exactly? Doctor Impossible
  23. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) He never reminded me of Norberto Martin or D'Angelo Jimenez (still playing for Newark Bears allegedly) or Tony Graffanino. What about Grebeck, Pablo Ozuna or Eduardo Escobar? Still think of him as Gaffe-anino because of errors he made for the Sox against the Cubs and a big one in the 2005 Division series.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) Didn't someone else just write a similar article about the Sox lack of injuries? i think it was fangraphs, attempting to use "extraordinary" health as one of the outliers causing consistent pre-season underestimations of the White Sox eventual record
  25. Don't see athletic trainers in the headlines very much. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/white-sox-tra...-142008464.html
