  1. From Plunkett: Zaidi was president of baseball operations for the Giants for six seasons before getting fired by San Francisco in September. truebluela.com Dodgers will face Cubs’ Shota Imanaga during Tokyo Series in Japan "Chicago manager Craig Counsell said Monday that the Japanese pitcher would pitch one of the two games on March 18-19. Imanaga allowed 3 runs in 11 innings in two starts against LA in 2024."
  2. Nick Pivetta's the other relatively big name remaining...but still has the QO attached. And 32. Red Sox, Braves, Angels, Orioles and A's (of all teams) most likely to sign him in the "fan vote" at mlbtraderumors.
  3. That's a HUGE drop off, obviously. Put your money where you mouth is, as they say. Can Turner even play the position defensively anymore...? They should just go with Shaw, but rookies are hard to trust these days.
  4. 7, 2020, at age 78, will posthumously be inducted in Cooperstown on July 27, 2025. “I am overjoyed that the Classic Baseball Era Committee has recognized that Dick is worthy of being immortalized in the Baseball Hall of Fame,” said Phillies Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer John Middleton.Dec 8, 2024 Compare/contrast reactions...what would you do if you were his family? And it's not like the White Sox owners BACK THEN have anything to do with who runs the team today. They don't (meaning the family) "owe" JR anything at all. It's not like he reached out to take care of him like guys from the past such as Minoso, Skowron, etc.
  5. Well, yeah, it's pretty hard to imagine him going in as a White Sox if your owner doesn't even believe he merits a HoF nod...
  6. The crazy thing is that Bobby Witt, Jr., had an fWAR which is the equivalent of Burke doing JUST that.
  7. So Burke's going to record a 10.8 fWAR over 36 starts? Maybe we should tamper that down to 33 starts and a 9.9 fWAR just to be a little bit more realistic...as DET didn't even start some of their regulars in one of those last games of the season after they'd already clinched and the White Sox were fighting to prevent the all-time record for losses.
  8. I do wonder how long he can sustain this Don Quixote-like energy to tilt at windmills...if the White Sox get buried early and Thorpe/Montgomery and B.Montgomery struggle out of the gate and/or are injured. I guess I should be as optimistic as those FutureSox podcasters, but I'm not even all that interested in seeing Schultz or Hagen Smith up at the big league level this year, because it's not like there will be a wave of FA spending next off-season to "jump start" their contention window like the Cubs did with Jon Lester back in the day. It would simply be starting their service time clocks unnecessarily.
  9. Just the general state of the franchise is pretty darned pathetic...and the Phillies are one of the Top 6-8 "glamour" franchises right now.
  10. And Gray Nic Bolton is the next obvious player to go...
  11. If you flipped the major leagues results the last 2-3 years...between the Phillies and Sox, and especially owners (Middleton/Reinsdorf), just wonder if you get the same outcome on hat choice?
  12. 740 is fine for an above average SS...certainly a rookie. Holliday didn't come anywhere near that level. Probably not acceptable for an average to below average fielding 3B...which is probably what he would be without any preparation besides the AFL for a position change. At third, you'd be looking for a 775-825 ops at least, with 850+ ideal.
  13. Martin Maldonado hit .119. Pretty low bar you set there, 57% worse than Martin...
  14. Team owner Patrick Dumont, instead, brought up "character" and "culture" in regards to the Doncic trade. https://sports.yahoo.com/mavericks-owner-patrick-dumont-cites-character-culture-for-luka-doncic-trade-says-team-is-not-moving-to-las-vegas-231335120.html
  15. Dianetics? Is this a new term for critics/skeptics of Chris Getz?
  16. Seems halftime show was a lot more interesting than the game... "From "Uncle Sam" Jackson introducing the performance to a wild appearance by Serena Williams, SZA, bold political statements in front of Trump, and of course, the Drake of it all -- Lamar had everyone talking with his Super Bowl Halftime Show." tmz.com "Lamar is canny: He knows that it’s a balancing act to be able to chide America’s anti-Blackness and “respectability” politics, and what’s needed on the opposite end of the scale is a gold bar of drama. That’s what he accomplished with his performance, which was full of attention-drawing slights at Drake. He brought out tennis legend Serena Williams, Drake’s rumored ex who inspired a different beef between Drake and rapper Common, to C-walk during the big song, and he wore a diamond lowercase “a” chain most likely to represent the lyric “A minor” (accompanied by some flagbearers running across the field with flags depicting the same lowercase “a” being held by children). As if that weren’t enough, some fans also believe that the other tunes chosen for Lamar’s setlist are meant to be sneak Drake disses." https://slate.com/culture/2025/02/kendrick-lamar-halftime-super-bowl-halftime-drake-2025.html
  17. That makes sense because you have a lot of balls beaten into the ground...popped up or fouled out, etc.
  18. Robert or Moncada would be out 3-4 months...or come back and swing with one hand or something. Guess we now have "will he?/won't he?" about Travis Kelce's impending retirement for the entire offseason...so there's that to look forward to.
  19. That's just it. The last rebuild had six Top 100 premium position prospects...among others. And then they already had the "base/foundation" of Anderson and Abreu. Everything right now seems to be highly predicated on both Montgomery's being stars, with Quero/Teel looking more like complementary pieces that are solid but steady contributors, but certainly not studs that can carry a team. (Think more of Omar Narvaez with Quero than Adley R.). Braden's only lacking in foot speed from the five tool box...Colson's obviously got even more going against him, but at the very least, we can't blame the Red Sox if something goes wrong with Braden's development (if anything, we should probably be wishing he was able to spend 2+ months working with their cutting-edge hitting instructors in his draft year). And the odds of both Smith/Schultz 1) pitching up to their capabilities and 2) not getting hurt...well, we know from following Sox top pitching prospects from the late 90's on that you simply can't expect both guys AND Grant Taylor to "hit the jackpot" like they did with Crochet/Sale.
  20. Can't believe the ad prices are up to $8 million for 30 seconds during the Super Bowl... That's basically the same amount as the White Sox are making from all their broadcasting (tv/radio) across a 162 game season, plus spring training.
  21. 163 to 14 total yards...
  22. Coming back from this would be more shocking than the Pats over the Falcons...
  23. "Stars" is really pushing the definition...
  24. I lived in Kansas City for a decade...so I'll just go with the Chiefs. Scoreboard.
